Louie does look to be enjoying his shower, too bad you run out of water as he seemed to want more, thanks Janet for sharing that vid with us.

Cocoa is a very adventurous grey, she gets to do more in a week than most of our greys will get to do in a lifetime and I always enjoy Sanggay's pics of her, thanks for sharing them with us.

Hello Zoom and welcome to our family, so glad to hear you are adding a baby grey to your flock, you are in for some greyt times. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can. The quarantine period is to protect them all as the new one might have a disease that you don't want the others to be exposed to and vice versa. If you want to take your lovebird and have it tested then that is up to you and your new grey should be vet checked even though it comes from a reputable breeder, its just good common sense. If you want to share some pictures of Obie and Kazoo we have an other birds room where you can put some of Obie and we have an amazon room where some of Kazoo can be shared.

Ray you have had a rough time lately with the power outages, I can sympathize with you as I have been thru the same thing many times but you have to admit the ice makes for a pretty picture, lets hope your power troubles are over with for we never miss it until we don't have it. Thanks for sharing the pics with us.

Hello Lindsey and welcome to our family, so glad you could join us and we look forward to hearing lots more about Jax and Ross. What an adorable little baby grey, thanks so much for including a pic of Jax, please feel free to add additional pictures at any time as we would love to see Jax grow and develop. Do read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and ask questions you may have and we will help you in any way we can.

Thanks Jill for sharing that with us, I too hear that all too familiar phrase but I just dismiss it as they just don't know and will probably never understand how we feel about our fids, I forgive them for their transgressions.

Well it didn't take Bob long to settle into his new home so you must be doing something right, there may still be a few minor setbacks to be expected but in all it looks like you are bonding with Bob very well. Yes sometimes those horror stories can be very unnerving but it seems we always hear about the bad things quickly and the good lags far behind but those stories are few and not the norm so relax and enjoy Bob. How about some pictures of Bob, we would love to see some.

QP4Cag, why don't you introduce yourself in the welcome room and tell us more about yourself and your baby grey.

You might be a rookie but you did this just fine and I love the pictures as reference, looks like Duece is learning how to step up like a good bird should, thanks for taking the time to do this for us.

Been there and done that Ray but our wood stove will heat the whole house so the fids do not suffer plus we can cook on top of it so we can have hot meals, glad to hear you all made it thru a tough time and everyone is fine.

This too shall pass and then you can get back to what you love to do so get it done and graduate, much luck to you.

It is just a noise thing, he didn't look like he was chewing on the wood, give him a big bell and see what noise he can make with that.

The grapes could be used as treats for they have very little nutrition in them, mostly water so if there is something your grey won't do you could use them as rewards.

Definitely!

Try putting a hat or something on your head to discourage her from flying there when she is out but blocking her with one hand while she tries to climb up your other arm is the best advice to keep her from going to your shoulder if you do not want her there, patience and persistence is needed for she will continue to do so for some time until she learns it is no longer allowed.

Maybe if you do a goggle search you might find an online supplier of them at a more reasonable price but my Josey doesn't much care for them, to each their own.

macaw (sunshine) putting claw into eye and rubbing... help
judygram replied to Kevin's topic in Other Birds
Kevin if it is a bit swollen and pink I would be concerned enough to at least call my vet to inquire about it, maybe you already have since this was Friday, let us know what you found out and if it is still a problem. -
I don't know whether they should have an endless supply of them but my grey has gotten ahold of an emery board before, wish she had used it on her talons instead of chewing it up but I can see how it would have helped to file down the beak though usually they don't need it.

I wouldn't give your grey fruit every day, more like two or three times a week, fruit tends to have more sugar than veggies and therefore has less nutrients in it for them. I know they taste better than veggies but you should be offering plenty of those every day, it may take a while if she loves fruit but eventually she may take a notion to try them and eat them, persistence sometimes pays off. You definitely don't want to be giving her anything with added sugar, just what naturally occurs in foods is plenty enough so the fruit you do give should be fresh or with no added sugars.

You will have to keep curious hands from being too close to the bird and supervise all the time the bird is out of the cage but we have many members here who have young children and greys, also other birds and they make it work. Some people are of the opinion that once you have young children the birds have to go but it depends on the person and the bird. Some birds do like children and either give them a wide berth or just know that they are different from us grownups. You might want to wait until after the new baby is a few months old like BirdsAreGrey8 said to see how things are at that time and then if you feel you can provide the attention and care a new grey will need then go ahead and fullfill your dream. A grey or probably any bird will adjust to children and such if they are already there when the bird comes to the home versus introducing a new baby to an already established bird who may have jealousy issues. Most greys don't like sudden noise but an active household is not a problem for them, if the noise level is high then they may make louder noise to compensate or make their presence known but birds tend to be noisy, greys usually are one of the quieter of the bird species, they just have several times during the day that they are more vocal. Be prepared for the grey to mimic any kind of sound and that includes baby cries and they do them very convincingly but that is part of their charm to make the sound of the phone ringing, the microwave beeping or the baby crying and so forth, you get used to it, if you can't handle it then a bird is not going to be a part of your household plain and simple. My children are grown but I have 3 grandkids who know to leave Josey alone and she ignores them for the most part so it is no problem when they visit.

Hello GabbySue and welcome to our family, so glad to hear you have decided to add a grey to your life, it will be so enriched by his/her presence. I started out with a sun conure then found myself wanting a larger bird, lo and behold a grey came into my life, they are amazing creatures as you will know when you get to know yours and you are doing the right thing to find out all you can before you bring one into your life as they are not like just any bird or a conure for that matter, know what all is involved in owning a grey as we hate to see them end up in rehomed situations. Please read thru the many threads for lots of useful information and do ask those questions and we will help you in any way we can.

I would imagine that Yoshi would have a few problems blending in with other birds around since she was an "only" child but in time she will, she needs time to allow her to find her place in amongst your flock and you will have days you will wonder what the heck you got yourself into but it will all work itself out so be patient. BTW, I think you are doing one heck of a job with all of them. I will wait patiently for pictures as I know you have your hands full at the moment and they come first so when it settles down some then you can oblige us with those pictures.

Anything is possible but I still have my fingers crossed that he is found and soon, my guess is he has been found by someone who doesn't want to turn him in. Do you have any more information about the person you thought had him?
-
Dave is right on with his advice on both subjects.

Oh the old timer trick, yes these greys are masters of mimicing common household sounds, the timer, phone and anything else they like or see that it usually brings someone running, they love the drama and attention it brings, tell your daughter to get used to it, thanks for sharing that with us.
