  1. Hello Eilidh and welcome to our family and congrats on giving Chippy a new forever home. I hope you are going to make avian your speciality as we can always use more qualified avian vets, many members here have difficulty finding ones that specialize in birds and they need people who know more about them than just an animal vet. There is only one in my area or I would have to drive for several hours to reach the next closest qualified avian vet. You already know what you should be doing so keep up the good work and in time Chippy will come to trust you, patience is key. He can have lots more vegetables than just some greens and parsnips, there is a thread in the bird food room that list many of the ones he can have and I would go lightly on the fruits as they contain more sugar, don't feed fruit every day but its good he is eating a good pellet. He can also have some grains, legumes, rice, pasta, a little chicken now and then and some egg. I look forward to seeing some pics of him and that video you spoke about.
  2. She probably thinks she is helping but she is only creating more Olivers, why some people think they can take care of so many birds is beyond me but so glad you got Oliver and I am holding good thoughts that he gets better and grows back his feathers, with your tender loving care he just might.
  3. There is no set mealtimes for greys for they are foragers which means they eat all throughout the day, they may eat more at one time first thing in the morning then they snack from time to time during the day. You want to have food available for them at all times so when they want something it is there for them. Pellets can be left in the bowl all day along with a few seeds and nuts but fresh foods should be removed after a couple of hours for they will turn sour and spoil.
  4. She is so adorable wrapped up in that towel, my grey does not like to take baths either but its something we all have to do from time to time whether we need it or not! Thanks for sharing the pics with us.
  5. Hello Camellia and welcome to our family, my you have quite the collection of pets and I know they keep you very busy but happy. Thats unusual for your dog to be that allergic to corn but it does present a problem when feeding pellets as it is an ingredient in most pelleted mixes out there but you may have solved your own problem by adapting a chop recipe to include the rice pellets, your bird may very well eat that mixture and get the pellets along with other good stuff, be sure to let us know how it goes if you try this.
  6. Hello AlejoGrau and welcome to our family. You can learn a lot by just reading thru the many threads here for it is first hand knowledge from experienced grey owners and it will give you an idea of what to expect if you go the way of the grey but do as much research as you can so you can make the best decision for it will be for a long time.
  7. Sounds like it was more positive than negative because not all days will be as windy as it is here today, you got some great pics of your little lady outside and looking forward to hearing how the next time goes.
  8. I think she is definitely smiling in that last pic, what a gorgeous bird, you are both so blessed to have one another.
  9. It might be wise to take Gracie on short outings first before you take her to work with you and if you can do half days that would be great until you see how she does with it.
  10. I'd say Twix quickly gave it his seal of approval, probably wondered what took you so long to upgrade his quarters, thats a nice cage and with the addition of some good toys what grey could resist, you did good.
  11. That is a beautiful bird and it was fate that brought you together, the others have given you some good advice and I am looking forward to hearing how this bird integrates into the family, never hesitate to put additional pics up for us.
  12. Unusual but do keep us informed and if there is any question at all do contact your avian vet for advice.
  13. Hey whats yours is his and food is the best motivator of all, he is getting good at flying and those landings are a snap.
  14. Moms are always slave drivers and Nilah is being very good for her, you go Nilah.
  15. Josey has one of those things and she has never destroyed it so far but then it is not one of her favorite toys to play with, all greys are different in what they like.
  16. I would allow him to come out of his cage on his own, greys can be territorial about their cages and defend them vigoriously so let it be his decision to come out and join the family. You can entice him back in by putting a treat inside the cage for him to get, make sure he sees you put it there. He needs or should spend several hours minimum out of the cage.
  17. I like seeing Louie swinging around on that toy for it shows off his red coloring in the wings, he sure loves to spin around while playing upsidedown, thanks for sharing your little plant leaf stealer with us.
  18. Try offering some warm oatmeal, most greys love that and you can add a little banana to it but they should be getting lots of veggies and not much fruit.
  19. They are both right, she could have been scared by the dog and took it out on you and also she may have been warning you that danger was near, it is hard to decipher what exactly is going thru a grey's head at any given time but it is advisable to not allow her on your shoulder until you know you can trust her there, some greys should never be shoulder birds.

She is preening and opening up pin feathers so that is the little pieces of keratin she is breaking off of new feather growth and greys do produce some dander that if they are not bathed regularly you will see it on the top of the feathers, a good bath will remove it temporarily. I highly doubt your baby is plucking but keep asking questions if you have them.
  21. Well I can see the writing on the wall, Dee is going to end up with an amazon sooner or later, you might as well accept it. They do look like they would be a lot of fun to have one but I know my limit and it is 3 but I can satisfy my desire by admiring other's amazons and watching their videos. I've been called a crazy bird lady, I thanked them for the compliment.
  22. Dee you have made my day, I got a good laugh out of your story, though not funny at the time it sure makes for an interesting tale to relive over and over to everyone you know and of course Gilbert had the biggest laugh of all out of it, glad it turned out well and hope your neighborhood stays crime free for heaven forbid Gilbert has any more reasons to make a big joke. Thanks for sharing that with us.
  23. You gave up your privacy when you bring animals into the house, they just want to be near you so its the price you pay for having pets.
  24. Maybe it would be helpful to read thru this thread as it may help with your situation: http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?109373-Body-language-most-frequently-seen
  25. Dave is right, Willo will fly when she is good and ready and nature tells her that.
