I am so sorry to hear of his passing, you two had a special bond and shared a few precious months together but he knew you loved him and returned that love, such a short life but it was filled with love and happiness, now he flies free over the Rainbow Bridge never to be forgotten by his beloved parront. I know you feel that you can never share your life with another grey but who knows what the future may bring, just leave your heart open to the possibility, maybe not in the immediate future but somewhere down the road when the pain of losing Twix is not so sharp.

Lost African Grey - Dodu - Rahway, New Jersey
judygram replied to dodu boy's topic in Lost & Found Bird Room
I am so sorry you have lost Dodu but getting the word out will help immensely to find him, I hope he is found safe very soon. -
Mikko is a very handsome fella and thanks for sharing the pics with us.

Talk to your dean tomorrow and see what he/she suggests you do, I am sure he/she has seen this before with other students and will know what your best course of action will be, good luck to you and let us know what you two decide.

Been there and done that, you want to have everything your new baby may possibly need and a Java tree will be very useful, of course you have a big cage, a travel cage, toys, foods, newspapers to line the cage floor and of course a camera to capture all those precious moments to come. Your baby is adorable, thanks for sharing the pics with us, when are you going to find out the sex and any ideas on a name yet?

Adopted a plucker, suggestions please!
judygram replied to ludwigsmom's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
It sounds like you are doing all you can to help him in his fourth home, hope it is his last, but one thing is to take him for a checkup by an avian vet to rule anything physical as the cause, some are just pluckers and there is not much you can do to stop it as it becomes a habit that is hard to break. I love the idea of the sock sweaters, there is a woman in our bird club that has a M2 that is a chronic plucker and sometimes mutilator and she makes sweaters out of socks, she usually tears them up so they don't last long but then she just cuts another sock up. -
Those vids are adorable and I love your outdoor aviary, they can play outside in the sunshine and be protected from predators, thanks for sharing them with us.

Hello Jason and welcome to our family, so glad to have a former infantryman among our members, I do appreciate what each and every one of our servicemen have done for our country and continue to do, we owe you a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid, thanks so much. You don't know how much we appreciate the fact that you are doing your research to find out if a grey is the right fit for you and if it is then you will have done your homework and the relationship you begin with a grey will be most rewarding for when you know what you are getting into then you are more apt to handle any problems that may come up and nothing is perfect. You write an excellent introduction telling some about yourself and past experiences with birds, that Paulie sounds like a wonderful little quaker but you are right in that he has found a new home, is happy and better off with your aunt. Please do read thru the many threads for lots of useful information, it is firsthand knowledge from experienced grey owners who share what they know and if you have any questions feel free to ask and we will help you in any way we can.

Already answered in another thread.

Just google bird cages, parrot cages and you will find lots of places that sell online and many members here have gone the route of ebay to find good cages, many will ship for free.
-
I just hope you know what you are getting yourself into, do the research and ask yourself if you truly can handle it, these breeder birds will in no way be pets, they like their privacy to breed and the less interaction with them the best. If you love greys and want to give your love to more than just one then get yourself another pet grey. If this is truly what you want to do then do it right and the best of luck to you in your endeavor.

Nothing like having a fid in the car with you when you get pulled over, hence no ticket but congrats on Lillie coming home safe and sound.
-
Oh yeah, whatever she sees you with is hers too, looks like she enjoyed her shower, no doubt you made it enjoyable for her, wish all of us could be this lucky as my grey dislikes taking baths.
-
Looks like an Oliver to me, if that is what you want to name him then Oliver it is, he is a cutie but wish the shots were so we could see his face and not just the top of him, thanks for sharing them with us.

I give mine less than half an egg at one time, that is plenty for them and maybe a couple times a week is fine but not every day.

So hurry up and get back so we can see it, patience, patience.

I see from a previous post of yours that Lillie is 8 years old but her former owners may not have allowed her the opportunity to fly when she was with them so she has not had experience in learning how to fly and land properly but I think she can learn and you can do some things to make it easier for her as she transitions to being flighted. You can get decals for your windows and doors to make it appear as if there is something there and make it less likely she will fly right into it. You may need to put her back into the cage if he goes outside if she is following him but I think with some more practice she will get somewhat better at flying, after all she has been denied it for so long and she needs to build up the muscle she needs to power those wings for greys are heavy birds. I hope you continue to keep her flighted, I know the bumping into things, flying into walls and glass doors is frightening to you but it takes time to build the muscle mass needed for flight and she is not a baby any longer so it makes it more difficult, she will never be as proficient as greys who were flighted to begin with she should be able to fly without bumping into everything along the way. I imagine your other birds were never clipped so they started out flying and that is best, they become more confident and excellent flyers if allowed to from the start.

Greys are not usually fond of small children for they are too noisy and boisterous for them to feel comfortable around and their way of saying I do not like it is to bite so it is best you keep a distance between your daughter and Twix until she gets older and can understand grey behavior better, young fingers could be seriously damaged by a bite from a grey's beak.

Sounds like he is having fun, just what a grey loves to do, quite normal in fact and Josey sometimes makes a clucking sound just like a chicken, you know you love every minute of it!
