  1. I agree wholeheartedly!! Let's hear those amazon stories!!
  2. I don't believe the sex matters at all as to who the bird chooses to bond with. THEY chose for their own reasons....
  3. Very nice! I like the travel cage very much. Do you have more perches and toys to add to the cage? I look forward to the day you bring your baby home. Please keep us posted with pics!
  4. One thing you should know, you cant put those 2 greys in the same cage together. They are territorial and require their own "room".
  5. I wouldn't take the chance. I use stainless steel only for cookware. It's more expensive! But worth it for your and your pets health. That's my opinion. I would steer clear of anything that says non stick, it has to use a chemical for that process, one that would emit fumes. My experience is that companies don't really know or care to tell you IF it is toxic to birds.....
  6. Wow! I never would have thought to try Home Depot. I don't care about colors... Thanks!
  7. I was asking because of the AG found in Fitchburg, MA. I live very close to there and haven't been able to find anyone in this state who has lost a bird. So I am looking in surrounding states.
  8. Does anyone have any thoughts as to how far a bird would travel in miles if they were to escape to the out side? I know it depends on the circumstances, time lost, etc., but would it be possible for them to go hundred of miles, or would they?
  9. This is posted on Craigs list also. I hope the owner is found.
  10. Welcome to our family. The pics are great. I look forward to hearing more from you!
  11. thanks got good presents but no cake
  12. Jay, thank you so much for this. There isn't much info out there on Amazons and their diet as far as I have seen. The specifics you gave us are great!! Thank you so much!
  13. YOUNG????? You say? Well if your talking about the 'real' Talon, her birthday is in Oct. And she is young. But if your talking about Bird ( me as Nilah calls me) then I'm 15 backwards.......ugh! But thank you my sweetie for the birthday wish, don't know how you knew......guess a little birdie told you!
  14. Ys, this forum leader team would not be complete with out our precious JAYD, as we recently found out when he was out sick. Glad to have my family back, but the MEMBERS are what makes this place rock!!! Thank you Jayd, Judy, Dan, Dave & Janet for all the time you donate to our family here. Aren't our birds blessed to have such a caring family?
  15. Jay, Thanks for clarifying about the watermelon. I didn't know that, I also didn't know that amazons had a slightly different fruit diet than greys. Mine all get about the same amount. Nilah is fine. It really was just too much watermelon. I'm surprised neither of the vets told me it could be the watermelon. So glad I saved myself a $200 vet bill.
  16. Well, just as I was getting ready to take Nilah to the vet. I had put paper towels on the bottom of her cage to see how she was pooping. Although she pooped a lot, she appears to be back to normal poops. She was talking and seeming as though she was fine. Seeing as how I am currently unemployed, and the ex isn't paying child support.....(@#!*@) Financially, I really can't afford to take her unless she really is sick, I think it must be the strawberries and watermelon she ate yesterday. I am watching her, and if anything changes, I WILL take her in tomorrow, but she appears to be fine now.....figures.....but I am happier. So, for now, I canceled the vet....
  17. Today when I got the birds up, all seemed fine. They were eating breakfast with me as usual, then I noticed, Nilah's poops were watery and red. She was acting normal, eating, drinking, talking and flying, so I watched her. I gave them strawberries, blueberries and watermelon yesterday as a snack in their cages, so I thought maybe she ate too many strawberries. As I looked in her cage, she had only eaten 1 strawberry at the most, her cage paper had many red watery poops in it. Then I found 2 places she went before bed from the night before, same thing. So, I watched her all morning, and watched her get quieter and quieter, although, she would still eat a bit. Of course, when I called my vet, the DR. will be out until Fri. am. They recommended the next closest avian vet, about 45 min away. I called them and explained the situation, they gave me an appt. for tomorrow at 7:30pm. I said, "can't you get us in sooner, by then it will have been 48 hours.....so they gave me 4:40pm.....big deal......I whined and whined some more, so she said she would speak to the vet in between appts and see what he says and she would call me back. They called back within 10 minutes and I have a 4:15 appt today. So my vet faxed her last check-up results over to them and we will be off soon. I will let you know what happens..
  18. Looks wonderful! Love the things you have hanging all around! I'm having trouvé finding the plastic chains, any suggestions?
  19. You may not be able to let him go if he is reliant on you for food.
  20. What kind of bird is it? Bless your heart for helping this baby!!
  21. Cant wait to hear more!
  22. Thanks Ray, that's exactly what it seems like! It's as tho she can't decide!! She is a very good flier, she is now 5 1/2 years old, so flying is not that new to her. Nice to know there are others who do the same.
  23. I have an observation that I am hoping others can chime in on. As you know, I have 3 parrots. A tag, cag and amazon. All3 came to me clipped.. All have been given their wings and flying ability back. But my cag, who was clipped until I got her, (age 2 and 1/2 years) took some time for her to be able to fly. As her wings were growing back, she would break off her flight feathers as they were growing in, so it took a while for her to be able to master flying. When she is perched somewhere and get excited, she may be in her cage and see me and wants out, or she is perched near a window and looking outside, she puts her wings out and quivers as tho she wants to fly, but can't. of course she can and does, but it's as tho she forgot she can. Of course, it's always when she is somewhere she can't get to. I am curious if anyone else ever sees this odd behavior in their birds, or is it just my Rikki?
  24. I have 3 birds. My tag uses a fairly large sleep cage that is in my bedroom. My other 2 sleep downstairs in their own cage. All3 are covered with a dark sheet. The reason my tag has an upstairs sleep cage is because she was my oldest son's bird and was kept in his room in her cage, but in the daytime when we left the house, I felt bad putting her upstairs in her room away from the tv, other pets, etc. So I had a downstairs play cage for her. When I moved, I kept this arrangement as that is what she was used to. I think maybe she feels special sleeping with me in my room...
