  1. Well, lets see, I'm a Jerk and they acted just fine..   Well actually FairY. I think you are on to something here. Yes, I believe a super smart parrot knows certain things about other "animals" that approach it.. I believe this. When we approach one of these birds what do we do? I think I can speak for everyone here.. We "baby talk" or talk very lovingly and careing to them. They hear this and know it's OK.. If someone "the real Jerk" came over how do you think that person would greet the bird? Just like humans.. If I met you for the first time and I said in a nice pleasant voice.. Hi FairY. How are you today. My I love your dress. Where did you get those pretty shoes.. and other things like that your guard "might" be lowered.. If I greeted you to opposite way, how would you act? So there you have it.. Atleast I believe this to be the case.. Another interesting thing on the same topic.. We were eating dinner last night just a few yards from where the bird display is. What a BEAUTIFUL view of the ocean from our table.. Holy Cow.. but anyway.. We were talking to the band singer.. He works this place for years.. Somehow the topic of jobs came up and I said. "Do you know who has the best job around here? It's the bird guy. Imagine sitting on the beach in Hawaii talking pictures for $20 a pop" The singer said. "NO, he has lots of trouble. He is constantly getting sued by people the THE BIRDS BITE." So there you have it FairY.. Your senses are RIGHT ON...
  2. Hi Meghan.. I don't think we have spoken yet.. How are you? I see that you are new here.. Welcome to the forum and more importanly welcome to the Photography Thread. I really appreciate your comments. THANK YOU... You are so kind to take a second of you day to write to me.. If you have any questions about how you can take a better photo feel free to ask.. I don't bite.. ask the others around here.. They will tell you.. B) <br><br>Post edited by: CeasarsDad, at: 2007/05/22 04:22
  3. I wouldn't push you... You're my friend.. and if by chance we were playing and you somehow went over the rail. I would be right behind you to die with you.. I think Bon Jovi pretty much sums it up this way.. I'd live and i'd die for you Steal the sun from the sky for you Words can't say what a love can do I'll be there for you Understand?
  4. Hi Kiddo.. I HATE heights but I do realize that in order to overcome your fears.. what do you have to do?.... FACE THEM...
  5. OK, if your bird isn't quite that tame yet.. I'm not sure sticking her in a travel cage for 10 plus hours is the best thing for either of you.. Perhaps you should call around local bird stores and have her boarded.. The trauma you could cause from the 10 hour ride might be more then the trauma caused by boarding her.. Hey guys. What's your opinion on all this....
  6. Do you think Anna is having fun yet? I found this display board standing up by the pool and thought I would take advantage of it for a photograph..
  7. First off I think you are doing the right thing by taking her.. At first she might be afraid of the car ride but as time passes she will realize there is nothing to be afraid of.. I don't use a travel cage when I take Ceasar out. Ceasar loves sitting on my shoulder in the car.. You might want to try this and see how your bird like it.. When you arrive, where will you keep your bird? Are you also travelling with the full size cage?<br><br>Post edited by: CeasarsDad, at: 2007/05/22 03:33
  8. Who's afraid of heights? I know I am, that's why I am surprised I actually took this shot.. We are 28 floors up. Me hanging over the rail looking D O W N... Yikes.. Pearl Harbor tonight.. Stay tuned..
  9. How many times were you somewhere and saw an photographic opportunity and you didn't have your camera with you. This must happen countless times. I know it happens to me all the time that's for sure.. Today was an example of when it DIDN'T happen.. This morning Anna and I decided that we were gonna walk instead of doing our usual run.. So, because we were walking I figured I could bring my camera and take advantage of the nice morning light.. Remember, that's the best time for photography.. Anyway, Anna thought i should leave the camera in the hotel room and ALMOST convinced me to leave it.. Then I said, heck with it.. I'm taking it.. It's a good thing I brought it.. Because I had ONE SHOT.. half a second to take.. and I hit... Look what I caught by the pool today.... This shot is literally milli seconds before he flew away.. Notice how nice the low morning light is on this beauty... Also notice a large aperture was used to blur the pool that's in the background. A small aperture would have made this shot useless.. TalonSis, are you listening kiddo? So, remember, if you're not gonna take your camera with you, you are NOT gonna be able to get the shots that just appear out of nowhere.. Enjoy...<br><br>Post edited by: CeasarsDad, at: 2007/05/22 03:11
  10. I love the name Mickey.. Very nice.. Good luck with him. You are in for the ride of your life.. Are you ready for the next 60 years?
  11. Not much needs to said after all the above excellent advice.. Show your Grey as many new people as you can.. Take it in the car for rides.. Expose it to as many new things as you can.. and keep doing that..
  12. I know, isn't that amazing.. I watched this guy work with a cheap camera and a few birds.. The people didn't stop coming.. He offers post card prints and other sized photos.. What I did is I told him to use my camera and that I didn't need the prints.. I wanted the digital file.. He said no problem.. After all it was better for him that he didn't have to print anything.. But by me having the digital file I can print whatever I want whenever I want.. Much better that way..
  13. No problem Judy.. I can understand where someone might think they were fake.. I couldn't believe just how tame these birds were.. The owner could do just about anything he wanted. In fact, even strangers like me were able to handle these birds with no problems what so ever.. I think it's important to understand that these birds have been doing this kind of show for in some cases 25 years... That's a long time.. At one point, as the owner had the birds purched on the customer.. ME and Anna.. He says "smile" and all the birds perk up and look at the camera.. Talk about the job of a lifetime.. How would you like sitting on a Hawaiian beach under a tent with a few birds.. collecting $20 a pop for photos... WOW.. I can do that...
  14. Hi Monique.. I actually have to distinct jobs.. The day job is for an international tool and equipment company where I am the technical sales rep for New York.. My second job, and the one I like the best is as a freelance photographer... Hawaii is a awesome place so far.. Thats for sure.. I island I am on is a bit too commercial for my tastes but beautiful just the same...
  15. Talon wrote: Talon, No, I don't mean it that way.. Not at all, I think you know me better then that right? After all, we go back a long way don't we? Regarding the concentration comment I made.. I didn't mean to suggest that you have problems concentrating. But I can tell you that I certainly do.. B) Stay tuned for more..
  16. Thank you Talon. You are always so kind and sweet around here. Is it any wonder you have like 1000 positive karma's... Well, maybe not exactly 1000 but you get the picture.... Speaking of pictures.. I was just checking a few on my flash card and I found these.. Enjoy sweetie... These are a few shots of the resort I am at.. Then you have that bird out early looking for breakfast. Notice the concentration... We all should have concentration like this.. Right Talon.. Tonight I will be on the USS Missouri for another company event... I'll have great shots for you then. See ya later..<br><br>Post edited by: CeasarsDad, at: 2007/05/21 20:25
  17. Thank you FairY... They are very pretty. I'm gonna do more shot of these guys.
  18. I think you should stop the toothpicks.. Switch to floss for yourself now and don't give your bird toothpicks for the sole reason of him eating them. You don't have enough information on this just yet and you don't need to be causing your bird any damage until you do know for sure.. OK
  19. You got great advice from Judy and Talon. The only thing I can add is sometimes Greys stop saying or doing things just because they don't want to anymore.. You will see this when your baby starts talking. One day they will say a phrase all day long. The next day they never say it again... Go Figure..
  20. Those of you that know me also know how difficult a time I had over at the other forum. You guys can remember the arguments and nasty-grams that were flying back and forth. Finding this place was a God sent for sure and the timing couldn't be better. The fact that so many of my friends followed me here was unbelievable to me.. and I thank each and every one of you for coming with me. Together we can forge a friendship that no one can ever break up.. As a team we can do anything. What the other forum didn't understand is forums are NOT about the admins and moderators.. Forums exist for one reason and only one reason.. The MEMBERSHIP. Without that you can have the servers, the software, the URL and domain name but you can never have a community.. I think this forum management understands this simple principal. Setting up this "off topic" room in just a single day is proof of that.. So once again, hats off to the GreyForum management team and especially FairY who remains my first contact whenever I need or want something.. Thank you from all of the membership here..<br><br>Post edited by: CeasarsDad, at: 2007/05/21 06:07
  21. Judy, Those are real parrots.. Yes It is amazing how this guy works these birds.. In fact he has a Blue fronted Amazon there that is 52 years old.. That bird has been working this kind of job for 25 years.. Imagine that.. I have never seen Macaws so tame in my life.. and the cockatoos.. Oh my god.. Unbelievable. Like puppy dogs. I guess if you had birds being handled by humans for 25 years they would be as tame as can be.. Anyway, Because I was at the company event doing photography for the "build a boat" contest I don't have any really good photos today... I will however show you the build a boat photos just for the hell of it... It all starts with 2 sheets of cardboard and a bag of supplies. There are also refs involved so everyone plays by the rules.. Everyone has a blueprint and has to cut out the cardboard to make an actual boat. Here you can see the hull starting to take shape Once completed these 5 teams will race their boats. Winner get a all paid trip the Vegas for two so there is lots on the line.. I was surprised at just how good these boats worked.. So there was a 2 man and 4 man race followed by a contest of how many people you could put in the boat until it sank.. And the winner was the Yellow team.. Their going to Vegas for free... So that's what I did today. It was fun to watch and shoot but I did get REALLY burned and I don't feel good right now. I'll see how it goes over the next couple of hours. I should start to feel better.. I think I just had too much sun. Anyway, tomorrow we are going to Pearl Harbor.. I should have great shots for you there.. then it's on to Maui. I know I will have good stuff for you there.. Take care everyone..
  22. We had a "boat building" contest today. I actually shot the contest so I was pretty busy with company photos. I don't think you are gonna want to see.. But I do have 2 new one's you might be interested in. Aloha from Hawaii... B) Here's another shot of those beautiful Flamingos.. More later.. Until then.. I'll see ya..and thanks for reading this blog..
  23. It helps direct 20% of the light directly on the subject. It should prevent you from needing so much exposure compensation.. You will like the look. I have had my Lumiquest for years.
  24. More teenagers should have a mother like U Talon..
