1. Wow, what a story. Initially I want to see you give this bird a new stable home. I think by the way you are talking you will be a good family for him. If you do decide to take him on you understand that it will take some time for this bird to once again trust his human companions. Of course it would be easier if you got a baby. A seven year old Grey may be set in his ways and almost impossible to change. I would pass on this one. Find a baby to love and raise instead. As hard as it is for me to say that it's really how I feel.
2. Nice, cage.. and all those cats. How does your Grey behave with all those cats around? WOW:woohoo:
3. Hi Melissa. I love the one where Talon is holding his "talon" up. That's a great capture. Good job. What happened with the second one? The flash didn't fire or you were trying to expose with natural light?
4. HeatherStrella wrote: Not yet.. but I will at some point I am sure.. Ceasar loves wooden toys so he can tear them up.. I got him a toy one day and it was destroyed the next.. Now in addition to toys I buy I also make my own toys for him.
5. That's a beautiful cage. I love the play area on top. Do you have a wooden play stand that goes on top there? I can tell you really love your Grey. Look at all the toys you buy for him/her.. Nice picture too..
6. Hi Melissa.. Don't I know you from that "other" african grey forum? You know the one...   Now that Ceasar is 1 year old he is really starting to talk up a storm. He is such a good boy. I don't know what I would do without him.. I know each and everyone reading in this forum feels the same way about their babies..
7. So I was in the kitchen getting ready to eat dinner when all of a sudden I hear my dogs crying. What the heck I think to myself.. I go into the den to see what's going on when I realize the dogs are not even in the den.. As I turn to go back into the kitchen I hear it again. It's Ceasar. He's crying like my dogs now.. So realistic you won't believe it..
8. Hi guys, It's me again. I thought it would be fun to see what everyones cage looks like. I'll start. Ceasar's cage has a full spectrum light on top. I made a wire cover system so he couldn't bite through any electrical wires.. Ceasar is hardly in his cage as he spends most of his time on his Tree Play Center.. Here's mind.. I hope you guys post yours.. http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u97/venuto/cage.jpg
9. Hi guys, so many of you have emailed and PM me to ask about photography in general and photography when it comes to taking photos of African Greys. I thought we would start a thread that talks just about that. This is your thread where you can post photos of your Grey and ask questions about how to make your photographs better. Don't be shy. No question is a bad one. Photography is confusing to some and it need not be. If you have a baby Grey you owe it to yourself to take great photos of this little thing while you can. If you wait you will miss a wonderful time in your babies life. I'll start it off with a few new Ceasar photos.. I hope you guys follow my lead.. http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u97/venuto/D2X_0225-1.jpg http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u97/venuto/D2X_0204.jpg http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u97/venuto/D2X_0184.jpg http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u97/venuto/D2x_0143.jpg http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u97/venuto/d2x_0127.jpg http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u97/venuto/D2x_0103.jpg http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u97/venuto/D2x_0087-1.jpg http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u97/venuto/D2x_0079.jpg http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u97/venuto/D2x_0073.jpg Post edited by: CeasarsDad, at: 2007/05/19 17:19

Post edited by: CeasarsDad, at: 2007/06/14 18:50

12. Oh you are too kind marir. Thank you so much.. I have LOTS of photos to share with you guys. I also have a friend that just joined. Her name is Talon.. You will see some nice photography from her too. Remember, it anyone has any questions about photography please don't hesitate.. in fact I would ask FairY if it would be OK to start a members photography thread to help our members out on how the best photograph their greys.. FairY, If you see this can you let me know? Thanks sweetie.
13. This is gonna be a toughie.. I am not sure you can Train a Grey to "stay" Are you sure you want her to have free flight? I know you understand the dangers found in a common home so I won't go into it here.. I have found that all the birds I have had did really well clipped. You turn a flyer into a climber.. Remember, parrots also love to climb..
14. HeatherStrella wrote: So good to meet you Heather. Thank you for writing. I am a Nikon guy. My working rig is the Nikon D2Xs with 2.8 pro glass. I know you know what that means as I can tell from your post you understand photography. Anyway, I also have a Nikon D50 and a smaller D40. Backfocus problems are so common these days. Believe it or not I just got my D2Xs back for the same time.. Only the problem was the lense and not the body. Nikon fixed it under warrantee. I know how angry you can get when you take a bunch of photos only to have many with soft focus.. Yuck.. Regarding backdrops.. When I am in the studio I shoot against a couple of different colored backdrops. The photos you see of Ceasar were shot outside with a 200mm lense about 6 feet away from him. The light meter saw ceasar who was so bright compared to the darker grass background that it rendered the background black.. It was a nice technique... It saved me from dragging out my backdrops and stands, know what I mean? Regarding the cameras you use.. You know that it's not the camera its the photographer.. I was at a Bon Jovi concert in the front row. I was only allowed to bring in a point and shoot.. I have photos that could be posters in a music store.. If you want to see them just let me know. I leave you with another shot of Ceaser.. Again, same technique regarding the background.. You can see the grass peeking through at the bottom. http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u97/venuto/D2X_0244.jpg
15. Hi there, After you get through the handfeeding routine and you are ready to get your bird on a great diet get him weaned to Harrisons Adult Lifetime High Potency. This is considered by many to be the best pelleted diet available. The sooner you get your bird on this the better. If your bird never ate a single sunflower seed that would be great.. In addition to the pellets what I do is every morning to take a handful of frozed veggies, nuke them in the micro and feed them to Ceaser by hand. He loves the attentions and eats the veggies with a gusto I feel good about. I know that at least I am giving my bird what he needs to remain happy and healthy.. Here's another look at Ceaser.. Good looking boy.. No? http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u97/venuto/cesar1.jpg

17. FairY.. So sorry I didn't answer your question in my last post.. You have SOME EYE for Greys I can tell you that. Ceaser is the most gentlest parrot I have even handled. To this day, about 7 months, he has NEVER biten me or anyone else in the family.. Truely a Gem of a bird.. I LOVE him so much I think you understand.. B)
18. Hi FairY and ZoesDad.. Nice to meet you .. Believe it or not I ran into a problem at my old Grey forum when me and the admin went at it.. Know what for? For posting photos of my Grey Ceaser.. That is correct.. I couldn't believe it myself.. So, bottom line is all my friend on that doppy forum will be quitting and joining here.. I can't wait.. To answer your question.. I am a professional Photographer. Yes the photos was taken by my digital setup. Currently a Nikon D2Xs and pro Lenses.. I am glad you like the shot.. I have others I will be posting for all to enjoy... Attached to this one is a unique one I shot recently.. I CAUGHT Ceasar Shaking his head.. The photo looks real weird but it is a rare catch just the same... http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u97/venuto/D2X_0191.jpg And here is a more normal looking shot.. http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u97/venuto/d2x_0124.jpg Enjoy them.. I post them for you guys.. Nice meeting you FairY.. Thank you for the welcome.. I appreciate it.

Post edited by: CeasarsDad, at: 2007/05/09 23:26
19. Hi, Just wondering, how old was the Grey you had that died? Regarding your new baby. Take your time.. What seems like forever in our world is really only a short time for them. Take is slow.. You will see improvements come in time. Allow the bird time to get to know its' new surroundings. They are very intelligent and will soon realize that you are not a threat to him/her. It is important that you try to start "step up" training as soon as possible. Depending on the personality of your Grey this could be very easy. In my case with Ceasar he was not a biter. When we first got him he would gently grab your finger with his beak and actually push you away. So needless to say it was really easy getting him to "step up" Attached is a link to a nice photo of Ceaser.. http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u97/venuto/D2x_0087.jpg Thanks for reading..
20. Hi, I'm need too.. Having come from another Grey forum I have lots of experience to share. I like the overall layout of this forum very much.. Keep up the good work.. Attached is a photos of my Ceasar. He's 1 year old this month.. He is talking up a storm too.. He's his photo.. Can the admins tell me quickly how to embed photos in the actually message instead of leaving a link? I know, I could search and find the answer but I'm lazy.. http://i166.photobucket.com/albums/u97/venuto/D2X_0208.jpg Post edited by: CeasarsDad, at: 2007/05/09 16:25

Post edited by: CeasarsDad, at: 2007/05/09 16:26
21. Hi, If you decide to clip him it's important that you allow your baby to fly for awhile before you do clip. This will give him balance he needs as he grows. My recommendations would be to clip him when you can. Homes are way too dangerous to allow free flighted Greys. Get a nice tree stand and let he climb around. He will be happy as a climber too..

Post edited by: CeasarsDad, at: 2007/05/09 16:20
