Ahh... there ya go.. It's a wonderful photo mark.. Very nice clarity and resolution... I was at Petco yesterday. Everytime I got there I have to fight myself to NOT buy one of these beauties.. By you posting shots like this you are making matters worse for me...

Yikes.. Sorry for the nightmare you are going through.. I like the "cage outside" idea and Talon's suggestion about "keep calling him" Just so you know.. Parrots do get away but many of them are retrieved.. I don't think he will continue to fly away.. I think he will stay in the same general area he is in now..

Talon, you have a challenge that I don't yet.. Your bird flys.. So he can fly away from the shower where Ceasar couldn't... I think this allowed me to get him use to the shower easier.. He simply couldn't run away... Maybe this is why I had such an easy time with Ceasar and you are having such a tough times with you bird... And I'm NOT saying clip him because as you know I am letting ceasers wings grow out..

I think this is normal for Greys not to eat at first.. I saw this with our 20 week old Ceasar.. I kept calling the breeder I got him from saying.. "he doesn't look like he's eating much" He said... "don't worry. he'll eat" and he did.. Talon, Monique and the others that recommended you weigh the bird are right on.. This needs to be done almost daily and you need to watch that there is never a 10% drop in weight.. If there is GO TO THE VET ASAP.. To those that are reading this post that DO NOT have a gram scale.. First of all Shame on you.. Secondly.. GO BUY ONE.. LIKE NOW... Well, lets think about this.. Would you like someone coming over to you and spraying you with water regardless if you wanted it or not.. I don't think so.. Even in the hot summer people walk around the misters some outside malls install to cool their customers.. I know if you came over to me and misted me.. There would be trouble looming on the horizon.. B)

Of course wild birds should stay wild.. but there are times when a baby will be in distress. Falls from his nest.. Is laying there on the cold concrete.. wait to die.. So, being hand raised with Humans and becoming a part of a Human flock can't be a bad second choice.. Especially when death was looming.. The problem with hand raising most wild birds is that they bond to their human caregiver.. So once raised that can't be released into the wild. For one they didn't have their mother and father around to teach them how to be birds... Releasing a Human raised baby is a death sentence. Not only that but a cruel one. When that baby first tries to integrate back into the bird world the other birds will reject it.. They will die hungry and LONELY.. I don't know about you guys but I would rather die of hunger then to die of Loneliness.. Anyway.. I write this because some folks don't know this about baby birds.. So I pass on you you guys what I have learned in raising Hercules.. and Zena..

Greybaby is correct.. They do learn from us.. When we first got Ceasar at 20 weeks, one of the first things I did with him is to take him in the shower with me.. He sits on the shower door while I talk to him and shower.. Then after I'm finished I make him step up on my finger and take him under the shower with me.. He doesn't run, doesn't make any fuss at all.. He just lays up against my chest and enjoys the water.. I don't let it directly hit his head... Ceasar never runs from the water.. Now in the morning when I say "Want shower" he starts getting excited and steps right up with enthusiasm... Again, I started this when he was 20 weeks.. Not sure if it would be so easy with an older bird.. but I quess it could be done..

I keep hearing that song about a spider.. How does it go... The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout.. Down came the rain and washed the spider out.. Out came the sun and dried up all the rain so the Itsy Bitsy spider climbed up the spout again..

It's a shame because if he is eating it there is a serious problem that might be very difficult to deal with.. Makes you wish you had a feather plucker instead..
