  1. So sorry to hear about the accident! Kizzy and I are sending best wishes your way.
  2. Kizzy tells the dogs to go potty and when they bark, he tells them to "knock it off." Both Kizzy and Jabber are my 5:45 am alarm clocks.
  3. Amazing! Love your stories! Kizzy says Hi!
  4. Dear Kizzy, As I sit and type this with you sitting contentedly on my shoulder making beak chew noises, it is hard to imagine that a few hours ago, you were dive bombing and attacking dear husband and dear son. Last week when you landed on dear son's neck and bit him very hard, and then flew through the rooms to seek and destroy dear husband, your fan club just lost 2 members. And yes, it was wrong for the DH to shout, "g-dammit, f-ing a hole!" after you drew blood, but it is also not funny that you've decided that phrase is your daily mantra. When I lovingly wake you each morning with a cheerful "Good Morning Kizzy!" and give you yummy veggies and nuts, please don't call me a "f-ing a-hole." Love you, Karen

    Five Facts

    1. My dog, Bunker Hill, and I were on the David Letterman show- Stupid Pet Tricks 2. My favorite city is Amsterdam 3. I live in Minnesota but was raised in Maryland 4. I work as an HR Director for a large food manufacturing company 5. I have two sons in their twenties; two birds, two dogs, and have been married twice.
  6. Jabber is doing very well, thanks for asking! He stays busy chewing boxes and toys all day. We joke that he wakes up and "goes to work." When I give him a new box, he says, OOOH! He and Kizzy are in separate cages next to each other, but I must always watch them when they are out together, as Jabber can be aggressive. Jabber LOVES me and is very possessive. I have not had Jabber out when the husband is around, because I believe he would attack him again! When Todd walks through the room to go downstairs to his man cave, Jabber flies over to the staircase and peers down, as if he wants to chase him! Jabber loves to dance and listen to music. He is very affectionate with me and has never bitten me (yet!) . He has picked up a few words in his cartoon voice but isn't as vocal as when I first got him. Such a sweet bird! The foster parrot organization called me and asked if I would be interested in another red belly that the owner gave up, and I declined, only due to not having any more space for a cage. If I could, I would have a flock of them! They are silly, funny and loving birds!
  7. I immediately thought of you (Koko needs new home) when I saw this!
  8. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/20/dancing-cockatoo-king-o-best-friends-animal-society_n_5996036.html?utm_hp_ref=good-news When I opened up the Huff Post Good News today, this was the first article. Make sure you watch the video of him singing and dancing. So cute! What do you think about their statement that he pulled his feathers out by his feet?
  9. Thanks! Kizzy did have a good hatch day! He did what he wanted!
  10. Kizzy had a plucking incident at the same time as Jeff's and your dear one. It started with his molt, and Kizzy seemed to enjoy chewing his feathers. For a while, he was very fluffy. And he took great pride in being fluffy. His feathers are growing in, with some areas still fluffy. I did find a toy that he likes- it is a feather toy. It has beads that he loves to pull from the feathers- the beads can be replaced very easily. He hangs from it and has a great time. You mentioned that you buy toys, maybe this one will help him as much as it did Kizzy. http://www.mysafebirdstore.com/product.cgi?group=21066&product=21072
  11. Kizzy is 2 today! Not a baby any more! His favorite saying now, how appropriate for his age, is " I do what I want!" (Fortunately, he stopped the swearing that he learned when little Jabberwocky bit the husband and gave him several unwanted ear piercings- LOL) I used my cell phone's voice recorder to tape Kizzy talking- he mimics my husband's voice so well. I caught about 2 minutes of talking. When re-played, I was shocked to hear, in between Kizzy's talking and laughing, a voice that whispered, "who's there?" No one else was in the room and the TV/radio was turned off! So, not only do I have a tape of Kizzy, but a recording worthy of Ghost Hunters. HA! May your year be filled with doing what you want! Happy hatch day, dear Kizzy Bird!
  12. Jeff, Kizzy is almost 2 and when he went through his molt a few months ago, he too began to pick and chew and ended up with a fluffy belly. The vet tested him- no problems. I take his cage out on the deck so he can get sunlight, spray him, etc. He still is fluffy after several months. Sounds very similar to what is happening to Gracie.
  13. So happy for you to have found him! Prayers work!
  14. That is so great to hear! When Kizzy is asked if he wants a shower, he yells, "NO!"
  15. Ray - Just logged on today and read the terribly sad news! You are in our prayers.
  16. Happy hatchday and many many more, Sterling Gris!
  17. Too cute! Love his voice!
  18. Welcome! Love your story and picture and can't wait to hear more about Smokey!
