  1. Thought I added those details, I was drinking a little when I posted. When I first took them in there I had thoughts of "how the hell am I going to get them back". As is my style I threw caution to the wind and threw my birds to the rafters. I'll figure out how to get them back later HAAAHAAA! The only reason we were there is my wife had work to do, so she was not in the gym rather she was in her office. After the first hour little Toby started to get tired of the game and kept flying to the narrow windows in the doors as that's where he kept seeing mother when she would peek in to check on us. So I knew I had him covered. I figured Rio would follow Toby. That left GreycieMae. When mommy came in and called Rio and Toby, they immediately floated down from the windows to her. It was amazing to watch. Then I had her call Greycie and with a little prompting to get her off her lazy behind, she flew down to mommy as well.
  2. $100 for a beak and nail trim? Are macaws that hard to do or is that a severe case of highway robbery? Takes me about 3 minutes per bird except my Jardines simply because I have to add a little time to clean and disinfect wounds (mine not his). Your situation with this house and property is dragging on but it will all be water under the bridge soon. My wife keeps yapping about Decatur, even last night. I haven't even told her you guys are moving there. That would be awesome if we got located in that area too. Birds of a feather flocking together! Somebirdy is just exhausted thinking about all that...
  3. The pattern they leave on the remnants always remind of beavers!
  4. This point in the video is after about an hour of them flying. When I first threw them in there they went round and round and round. I have another short video of Greycie as she was attempting to land on one of the vertical supports and it didn't quite work out so well so she doubles back and soars over my head. The power of her flight was truly impressive. She is a hefty heifer after all and she can get the pound+ of African Grey up to super sonic speed awfully quick when she wants to. I'll edit the video in here when it's available. *Looks like I deleted that video - dang*
  5. It's not quite free-flying but it's as close as I want to risk with my babies...
  6. GreycieMae farts all the damn time. And it's still funny everytime she does it. She has a knack for doing it when she's being told what to do e.g. "GreycieMae leave Toby alone" *fart* "GreycieMae get out of the kitchen" *fart* GreycieMae get off Tinkerbells cage *fart*
  7. Better be careful what you say around that one!
  8. That's great to hear. He's just gone to boarding school, that's all. Can't wait to see pics all reunited.
  9. Confiscating Sukei will lead to a lot of hate-filled pen pals. I hope they have other things to do.
  10. oh good news. Please keep us updated until then if you know anything. Who is caring for Sukei in quarantine? There's definitely some recourse if the bean counter wants to be a turd. One post onto the Grey groups on FB and he'll see a mighty shit storm descend upon him. One thing I know about the Grey crowd, they fight among themselves like...a flock of greys....but when the word gets out that someone needs help, they all pitch in. Bean counter better get back to his beans and just leave Sukei alone.
  11. We looked into this recently as my wife was complaining again that she can no longer do anything and the house is ruled by my hobby. The consensus I found was that most people will stay away from them. There are others however that are burning the soy candles with cotton wicks but then there is the concern about how they get the fragrance into the candle. Some believe essential oils to be safe, others don't. There's always the people that come on to the debate and say they have been burning candles with their birds for years and years and nothing has happened. Luck? Who knows. Then there's this Birdy Candles
  12. Good luck to Sukei! They can withstand a lot. I just watched as a drama played in NC where a grey escaped and was perched in a tree with overnight lows of 27F. Took them three days to get the bird down. Wasn't aware they could survive that.
  13. What song is that in the video? It's nice but kind of sad sounding. I'd never ever be able to watch that video if I lost the birdy...it would kill me.
  14. That's a great video. You must have some professional video editing software and the skillz to match!
  15. Ahhhh...that's cute. Maybe he should just go with 'Merry Corn' like Einstein the Texas Talking Parrot says. There must be something to it.
  16. Well, you all know I have a cuddlebugs. I'm pretty sure she didn't start out life that way. She was the standoff'ish bird at Wendy's Parrots that didn't want to hang out on a person much. She was however the playful rowdy one, which is a trait she still carries and works all too well here. I would have taken her sister if the bird wasn't reserved already. That bird was a cuddlebug velcro bird even in the short few hours when I went to see GreycieMae for the first time. I'm convinced a lot of it has to do with fear on our part. You show fear and reservation they will take advantage of that. And it's not something you can really control I suppose. Not being afraid to get bit really goes a long way when I'm playing with GreycieMae. She does bite the living crap out of me occasionally when she's decided it's time to act like adults. I never ever let her near my eyes when I know there's a possibility she's going to strike. Everything is fair game and I don't mind a little blood loss. As for how I got her to be a cuddlebug....lots and lots of playing and wrestling and tickles. Once she learned how fun it was to be slung around, rolled & tickled, bounced, tossed on her back, etc...she just naturally started to come around. I know she thinks it's fun because she will come to me asking for stuff in her own way. She will go to a place mat on the table and grab it with one foot and partially turn over in it then call to me. That's my cue to go wrap her up and sling her around in it. She loves it. She does lots of other cute stuff too that's very tactile. I'm assuming you've had Brutus since he was a chick? I'm sure it's much different on a bird with a bad or unknown past. I wouldn't even expect to get one of those to cuddlebug status if they never showed an inclination too.
  17. Well, that page gives me a lot better feel about it than them just throwing him in a cargo hold. They'd kill every animal they shipped if all they did was put them in general cargo. Has to be pressurized and heated which I'm sure they'll do if that's what you're paying for. Can't wait to see lil Sukei state-side. Where to by the way?
  18. Yah, when's the nest warming. Me and Tinky and GreycieMae are there!
  19. Shoot...house dealings are never easy. We got taken badly when we bought our house. All the foundation damage was covered up with new walls and paint. Windows were re-positioned, doors re-hung. Then 6 months later the house started falling apart. We had cracks and separations from the wall-ceiling that were bad everywhere. The worst was in our bedroom where you could push a briefcase through the gap between the ceiling and the wall. It was at this point we understood the relationship of sellers, agents and even home inspectors. Those three f*s took us for a huge ride. We were young and dumb and ready to pick like low hanging fruit and they took full advantage of us. Knowing what I know now, and I'm not licensed to inspect a home, I can walk into a house and tell you if the foundation is bad. Looking back, we should have sued the living hell out of all of them but we didn't have the means too. Instead $45K and 10 years later, we had foundation piers put in throughout the house. Most of them internal. Guess how they put those in! Yep, tear every damn thing to pieces and bust through your foundation with jack hammers. We had about 20 of the internal piers done and probably 30 along the edge of the foundation. My only consolation is that the former homeowner that took us for a ride died of massive heart attack 2 years after screwing us. Fortunately he kicked over before I could hunt him down. I had day-dreamed of knocking him off there for a few years I was so pissed off at what they did to us.
  20. What you need is this. You'll probably not see your Grey again for a few days. It was posted on the Parrot Workshop by some lady in Italy that just made it from scratch.
  21. Had to giggle at that. That's exactly what we are.
  22. Love listening to those talkers. Wish mine would talk, we'd probably have the best conversations for hours on end. Right now our only talker is a cockatiel and we chit chat and get in each other's business constantly.
  23. That's depressing. Everytime I saw this thread this is what I thought I might read. Was getting hopeful he would make it. Sorry that he's gone. They are beautiful little souls.
  24. That's great news. I'm sure he's not out of the woods yet but keep doing what they've instructed, that's his best chance.
  25. I'm betting you'll be having some pretty interesting conversations....and maybe singing soon!
