  1. oh...I thought you were talking about my wife right there  "Ok, but first...let me take a selfie"
  2. Such vibrant colors. Her feathers look like it would be soft like petting a cat. I've never been around one of those. They have very soft looking eyes too.
  3. I had to read that three times to catch what KevinD meant by being politically incorrect. Ok, 'man' vs. 'person'. Death to figures of speech! We can't have that!! Interesting world we live in right now. However remember, the pendulum is nearing maximum away from it's equilibrium and will be returning home like a chicken to it's roost!
  4. Ahhhh...now you be good and go get lil Phenix an Appoo. I can't resist that stuff. They must see me as a walking pile of playdough. Toby our Caique, who happens to be the slowest learner in the house, bless his sweet cheeks, has learned to fly into the kitchen and do the dog whistle to get Daddy to come get him a drink. Now GreycieMae, it irritates Mommy to see how the Greybie can manipulate me to do whatever she wants. I'm helpless...
  5. Yep broken again here too. It seems to be moody.
  6. Yes - Coccidiosis. I had forgotten what the medicated feed was for. I don't think you need it if you have just a few chicks and you take care of their living area. In 20 years of raising poultry here I've only ever had issues with Cocci once. 2-3 years ago it started raining here and wouldn't stop. I had just bought 30 young chicks and had them in my regular grow out pens. When it started raining non-stop I was forced to move them inside the main chicken house and fenced off a small corner so the big ones wouldn't kill them. Like I mentioned earlier, they've pretty much stopped selling medicated chick feed, I don't know why. I really needed it then because with the cramped conditions and high humidity and just wet nasty everywhere, Cocci got hold in my flock of little ones and wiped out a good 1/3 of them. Other than that, I've never had an issue with it. Mine get to go out and wander when we're home and their grow out pens are large enough that cleanliness isn't an issue. Here's Tinkerbell tending to our flock just this morning! Usually GreycieMae gets to go do the chickens and pigeons but today was Tinky's turn.
  7. I have no idea if mine were vaccinated or not. When they come vaccinated, that means vaccinated against Mareck's disease. Chickens are particularly susceptible to it. I've never heard of it affecting parrots. Medicated feed is for different issues. They've almost stopped selling it everywhere that I buy feed. You don't need it if you keep the chicks living area clean and don't let them mire in their own poop for days on end.
  8. I have about 30 chickens running the place and some of them get into the aviary where my birds stay. I also have 5 silkie chickens that are considered the after hours aviary cleanup crew. No problems so far.
  9. I have to laugh at Sukei's comments surrounding the situation with the fire. He sounds like such a character. My luck I'd meet him and he'd sit there like a lump on a log. I'm glad he has a couple people interested in taking over his care if needed. That's always a nice reassuring feeling. Besides worrying about my house burning down with all my birds inside, worrying about their future is something else I always have to fret over.
  10. At the Lowes where I live they have a resident cat that stays in the outdoor garden area and also stays inside on that end of the building. I was there yesterday (with the GreycieMae in tow of course) and one of the workers there was telling me that when they would close down some evenings you could see the rats running across the floor occasionally. Apparently that all ended when the cat showed up. He's been there 8 months and is now the Lowes shop cat. I think that's so cool. I was talking to one of the workers there about the cat. We got off onto the subject of my personal rat problem in my barn and he said to get a cat and don't feed it. I didn't buy that advice but I do want one now. They don't eat much and he'd be taken care of.
  11. I had them make it 207 cm long (~81 in). The standard length is for their wide version is 200cm. Our door opening is 80 inches too but I wanted it just a bit taller as I was mounting it on the wood frame above the door and wanted it to reach the floor. Their mounting hardware is junk. You'll have to buy something to mount it with when you get it. I used a french cleat hanger which works perfectly.
  12. Holland Plastics imports them directly from the UK. Their shipping is incredibly fast too. Both of ours were custom size orders and all they asked was that we purchase the wide to accommodate for the extra length I wanted. We needed the wide anyway so they basically just added the length without any additional cost. Amazon Holland Plastics fly chain curtain P.S. our two dogs go in and out of this chain curtain without issue, one of them is a big mutt - got some Irish Wolfhound in him and he can't tear it up.
  13. That's definitely a baby. 2.5 months is too young to wean though so I'd guess he's older than that. I see you got the oatmeal. Try putting some banana, cinnamon and a little flax if you have it. Mine love that stuff! I wouldn't worry about the amount he's eating as long as it's enough. Start worrying if they're NOT eating. Just keep working with him. They change a LOT as time goes on and their personality will come out. Things never happen overnight with a Grey unless it's their idea. And make sure you get lots of that baby time. They grow up before you know it and then all you have are the pictures/videos of when they were babies.
  14. Over in Europe they call them 'fly chain curtains'. You can't buy them here in the states except through a couple of companies that bring them across the pond. I have two of them. I had to get them to stop our conure from zipping out the door. She's been out twice since I got her less than a year ago. She's a silent and extremely fast flyer so it's very easy for her to zip out that door. This chain curtain stopped her dead in her tracks!
  15. I stopped feeling sorry for them when I kept going in my pigeon loft and finding half-eaten half-dead squabs still wriggling but no way to save the poor things. I will use any method available now and when I get my hands on one his day doesn't end nicely.
  16. I was wondering if the birds finally had a successful mutiny over there in Parrotdise. Let me know how those cats work out. I was considering getting a mean ol barn cat to round up the rats around here and march them into the next world but I was reading some homesteading forum thread that they were kind of hit-or-miss. Some cats will go after rats, some will just set up rummy nights and get real chummy with them. Everytime I wipe out the population here, another one springs up within a few weeks.
  17. Olive seems to be having a very interesting life there!!
  18. She generally spends about 5 minutes playing in the ice and then will go sit on a perch and warm up, which doesn't take long at 100 degrees, then she's right back in it. Rinse and repeat until there's no ice left and that's when she will tire of it. Now what else you expect a girl to do when she's supervising Daddy on the circular saw?
  19. It's HOT here in Texas. So GreycieMae has a few pointers on how to keep your cool during this global warming spell. If ever there's an ice age, we'll post another video on that too. 1. Make sure you have a working ice maker - very important 2. Make sure you have a slave to bring you the ice - very nice 3. Make sure you have an oblong baking dish - fits the fat fatty nice 4. When temps reach 95, combine all ingredients and jump in! P.S. don't share. sharing is NOT for the birds
  20. I would say she is eating them. All of our birds leave a fine powder behind when they eat their pellets. I use those 'seed corrals' to put their pellets in and eventually there is nothing but poweder left. I leave that in place and they eventually will eat the powder too. Less waste this way. We feed Harrisons pellets and I've switched to the 'fine' size because when they would crack the bigger ones, the pellet parts would fly all over the place creating waste and a mess.
  21. I had to laugh at that. First thing I do every morning when getting the babies up: GreycieMae is first because she's the queen, I rotate her off her perch lay her upside down in my hand and stuff my nose under her wing. Sometimes I give her a good farty noise and we both have a laugh, or I just soak up the warmth I feel from her little body and give her kisses all over her belly. I wouldn't be able to live if I had to keep her out of my face.
  22. Keep in mind he's going to give you his best guess. Doctors practice, doesn't mean they know. I have a co-worker that landed in the hospital for a week and then on bed rest for nearly the exact same thing you mentioned. Her doctor's advice was to get rid of her budgies and her cockatiel as they were, in his opinion, the cause of this. She ended up re-homing the budgies as they were super messy and left feathers all over the house. However she couldn't part with the cockatiel. We're about 10 months out and she's doing ok. As you know a cockatiel is a heavyweight in the dust/dander department. Eventually we think with her it's the same as you, previous damage from a bout with bronchitis or pneumonia. I have the same issue to a lesser degree. I got bronchitis really bad from racing in the rain and cold and damaged my lungs. My first bout with it went 6 months of nearly non-stop coughing fits. Now I seem to get a recurrence about once a year. There is a test you can get that will tell you exactly what you are allergic too. I have no idea the accuracy, probably higher than a doctor's opinion.
  23. Stories like this is why I hang out here: "Pedro, you better go outside and poop or it's going to be a LONG DAY!!!" BWAAHAAHAAAHAAHAA. I can only imagine. Seeing and hearing about everybody's Greys that talk always makes me jealous. Not sure I want a talker so bad, I think it's just another window into their little soul that I don't have. Some of this is hardly believable except I hang out on two FB Grey groups and I see this type of talking all the time. I was watching one this morning of a Grey explaining to her hooman how a dog barks and what noise a duck or something makes...then it busted out in song and dance and that's when I melted. They are so dang cute.
  24. I seriously don't think you'll find anything better than that King's cage. Ive had my eye on that one since late last year but can't plunk down the change for it. That would surely be my choice. It's heavy though! That's the one drawback I've read about it.
