  1. They can certainly be little circus acts. I have one that's an attention hound. She does stuff just get ohs and ahs from the royal court.
  2. Glad Ollie isn't going to lose the foot or his life! We've had some close calls here too involving doors. Can never be too careful.
  3. She's a healthy looking beautiful girl!
  4. Not sure we have any baby experts here any longer. Our longtime goto was Dave007 and he's most likely feeding babies on the other side of the rainbow bridge. Keep checking back here just in case but AvianAvenue might have some help too. Babies need quick answers. Facebook has some good resources too.
  5. Glad to see you're back. All these long running threads have stopped as many of the members have left. I think someone was inquiring about this thread just the other day. Regaring the breast cancer, how did you catch it so early? Regular exam? I need to get my wife in there to do hers...
  6. Oh gosh. Our conure went to battle with our Jardines and ended up with a nice hole through her beak in that exact spot. It worried me when it first happened but never phased her and it grew right out after a few months.
  7. They're like the living dead. They just keep coming. The crap they spout makes absolutely no sense. I can't fathom why some idiot out there creates these.
  8. Ahhh...sweet happy boy! Tell him Huey says Hi! The look so similar.
  9. Good job to Schooner for training his new hoomans right. That video you posted is mating behavior and many will tell you not to encourage that. Our Huey gets hot and horny with my wife the same way. He will eventually up-chuck and try to feed her but when he starts to get low and try to mate, we find something else to do like go sit on his perch or maybe a couple laps around the living room (we've found this stops it immediately). After seeing that video, I don't think you're going to have any problems with Schooner, he's definitely in love with whomever is in that video.
  10. Awww...a fuzzy girl in her jammies. Definitely tell us more about her.
  11. Woohoo! I won't miss it of its gone!
  12. My only problem with teens getting a Grey is the fact that your life will be a whirlwind of change for the next 10-15 years. You've probably seen the meme that says stuff like "I'm not a until you go to college bird, I'm not a until you have a kid bird...". These birds are at the mercy of those who take them in. So many end up in barns, cages with nothing to do, stuck in garages etc. I lost a Grey, that I got as a teen, to a divorce and I'm very lucky that my ex-wife re-homed the Grey to my aunt that still has her. Greys are a huge commitment, similar to having a child. I've had both, I put more effort into my Greys, as kids kind of learn to take care of themselves for the most part - and they move out! On the flip side, I have seen several posts on the FB Grey pages of people who have had their Greys since they were teens and even kids when it was their parents bird. Those are kind of special. Maybe that could be you. Think strongly about it. You have no idea where you're headed at this point....not many of us do at that age.
  13. I buy the raw 'furring strip' boards from HD/Lowes. They're super cheap, super chewable and keeps a beak busy. GreycieMae modeling her furring strips. As you can see, she has decided to go after the door now 😕. That's ok though because this is in her bird room and she can do whatever she wants in her room or aviary. I also forgot to mention that Huey in the photo above is a similar case as your bird. He is formerly abused, we think by a male. He is very untrusting of me, but thinks my wife is the moon and stars. I get lots of bites and evil stares out of him and will never be able to love on him like my wife can but I'm ok with that. I still love him.
  14. It's going to take time and lots of it. Possibly months or even years. And it's very likely Schooner will never turn into a cuddle muffin. They end up carrying their baggage around just like we do and sometimes it's irreparable. Doesn't mean they won't be a bird that's super fun to be around and play with. Your best bet right now is to just give Schooner lots of time to get to know you. They will change after a few months. Since you're well versed in animal training, research on some methods of training Greys (parrots in general) and you'll find lots of information on engaging their lil brains. They are very receptive to this. I put up wood strips in places that our guys like to go and do their craftsmanship. Of course they'll find places that are off-limits and that requires a lot of removing birdy from the crime-scene over and over again. We finally stopped Huey from chewing our kitchen cabinets after about 3 months.
  15. We have horses too. And I consider them to have peanut brains compared to our Greys. If then can remember, you can bet our Greys can remember!
  16. Yes, that's another brilliant way to get them to eat something: eat it yourself. And for added affect, act like you don't want to share it 🤣 😂
  17. When Huey came to us he was on Fruit Loops for breakfast and who knows what else. I dumped the Fruit Loops on day 1 and his mission in life was to eat what was served or watch GreycieMae eat it all in front of him. It didn't take long and he was digging in. He is now a good eater and really looks forward to breakfast. I only break out the treats: seed mix, nuts etc for special treat time. Otherwise I don't give them a choice to throw all the hard work stuff on the floor and eat only goodies.
  18. We have chickens and guineas too. The guineas are a riot! My daily go-to parrot buffet consists of the following: - sprouts (china prairie or the bird mixes from sproutpeople.org) - cookable (Volkman featherglow soak and simmer AND Volkman Featherglow Birdeez Buffet 15 Minute Soak and Serve) - If I have frozen peas, corn(not much), or other veggies, I throw them in the cook - Fresh choppables: banana, jalapeno, sweet potatoe (toss in the cook), bell pepper, brocolli, cauliflower, whatever else I may have - Sometimes I mix in soaked and cooked bean mix too. It looks like this usually and they go nutters over it. I generally make a 2-4 day supply.
  19. Haa, I get goosebumps just reading how you found him. The birdman in me says it was just meant to happen. I know how much these guys mean to some of us. Would love to see more about Willy.
  20. Oh I don't doubt you knew it was your bird when you met face-to-beak. I'm just wondering how in the world you saw a CL ad and knew who it was. I have a bird I lost 25 years ago to a divorce. She ended up with my aunt so I was able to see Odie (my Grey) after we hadn't seen each other for 20+ years. We both knew each other instantly. But I'm not sure I would see an ad and have any inkling it was Odie. I'm just amazed.
  21. How did you recognize it was your birdy?
  22. Am I reading that right? You were re-united after you found him again on CL after a decade? That's pretty dang'd amazing story!
  23. Go here and explain your situation. They will be able to help. https://www.facebook.com/groups/Parrotfirstaid/
  24. Doesnt look like a pucker. Feather loss is normal. Even more during a molt.
  25. Not too much traffic here, for a question like that you may try avianavenue.com in their grey specific subforum or there are several Grey Facebook groups one of which has 38K members (worldwide). Someone might know if no one here does.
