Huey got me on the lip last night. Ripped it good. To me he's so cute I can't resist him but he knows he can sucker me in and get me. My wife can cuddle him, kiss him, roll him over, snuggles...I get nothing but sucker moves. I'm lucky though, my GreycieMae is so pliable, she's my little sweetling. I can do anything with her.

I always down-play the fun of having a bird. They are a ton of constant work if you take care of them properly and most people are too lazy to keep it up for years on end. I always wonder how I'm going to keep it up if I make it into my elderly years but my Dad is 80 and still takes care of cattle and horses and works outside daily. If he can do it, so can I.

Huey has been sitting around watching and listening to my wife and then me cough, cough, cough and....cough some more. He has also seen us go for the medicine bottles which we have been keeping in a built-in bookcase. No birdy has ever taken an interest in getting up in the bookcase until now. Huey now sits around and coughs and coughs and has found his way into the bookcase and zero'd in on the pill bottles. Apparently we're supposed to believe he is sick now too and needs meds 🤪 So the pill bottles except one have been removed. Now Huey attempts to take his meds and hopefully we'll get him through this 'sickenss'. Poor Huey ::eyerolls:: 20200402_072919.mp4

He was a social distancer before social distancing was cool 🤣

Boxes, cupboards etc are the only thing we have found that will keep Huey busy enough so he doesn't butcher his feet. Otherwise he has to stay on Haliperidol 24/7 and it keeps him knocked out and droopy all the time - hate that. Huey goes hormonal in the spring regardless of there being boxes around or not - we found that out the first year we had him. So does our male Caique - loses his mind and rips his belly feathers out, has no boxes etc. Not sure I buy into the boxes cause nesting theory, I'm more of the inclination that it's their normal seasonal hormonal fluctuations. 20200331_082957.mp4

They have their expectations! Huey gets irritable if I'm not making his 'lunches with the ladies' soon after he is up.

Sounds like our boy Huey. Always has to be in a drawer, cupboard, bookcase - anywhere getting into anything/everything. I set up his own dresser with drawers full of wooden spoons, boxes and lots of stuff for him to get his 'constructionings' on. He even does the "whew" sound when he's working. I always compliment him on what a hard worker he is and then more "whew".

I want to say that things will be getting back to normal in the not to distant future. I'm still waiting for the wave of people to get it. I have heard of others that have fed dehydrated foods to their birds. I know some mixes come with bits of dehydrated food. Have you tried shopping extremely early in the day?

As another post alluded to, I contracted the Chinese Coronavirus (making sure to give due credit where this originated). My wife had it first, contracted through a kid or kids at her school, and I contracted it from her. I would classify what my wife and I had as moderate to bordering on severe symptoms. It basically culminated in 3-4 days of flu-like symptoms combined with breathing issues. At one point I could feel tingling in my toes from the lack of oxygen in my system. Breathing is hampered by the inability to breath normal and definitely not deep. My advice is to stay sheltered if you can, it's a miserable experience and can quickly go terminal for some. My wife took some pics the day I was completely out of it. My conures sat on my face the entire day, they are such a comfort: The day after I turned the corner my Greybie miss GreycieMae took over the care and nursing. I posted a pic to our family group and my daughter took liberty to cut my ass out out of the photo and trace hearts around GreycieMae. It definitely gives me comfort that when the end finally does come, my GreycieMae has someone who is absolutely in love with her and will take care of her.

We think my wife caught it from a student day before spring break. Assumed it was normal flu but then a few days in the breathing issues started. She tested negative for strep and A&B influenza. No test for C19 here so they started treating her for C19 based on the rattling and inability to breathe deep. I have whatever she had now. She's in the clear now but it's my turn I guess. How long have you had Maxi?
-
Sounds like our boy Huey. Mommy can get away with anything with him but I have to walk the straight and narrow. I can get a kiss out of him but only on his terms and occasionally he tries to see if I'm a sucker (yes).

GREAT pics. Love the messy beak! Such happy healthy looking greybies. Love it.

Looks like you're in for some On The Job Training. They'll get you sorted out, just remain open to correction 🤣

Life is rough in the wild, just remember that. There's a reason they live so much longer domesticated. Me personally, I don't want to live 'in the wild' as we were meant to before we domesticated ourselves. Living in the wild is only for the young and strong. It eats them alive when their youth wears off. Pretty much the way it is for all living things. For predator animals it's even worse as starvation and/or death from the elements is usually what gets them. My GreycieMae and Huey have a good time in their outdoor aviary or the indoor flight when the weather doesn't cooperate. One can sense the happiness in an animal if you let yourself. Just think, there's a reason wild dogs decided to hang around humans and were eventually domesticated. Even they have it rough sometimes with shithead owners.

I have another episode coming soon involving another well-known movie score. Stay tuned!

Sounds like you're pretty clear about the trigger - the hair cut. Did you ever let it grow back out? I'm not sure if Greys can be as shallow as men (me) but I've told my wife since day 1: if she ever cuts her hair or colors it, I'm out. My wife has beautiful long bronze hair and if she were to do something to it, I'd be cantankerous too. Not sure if Greys are capable of this type of nonsense or not.

I think that was one of her early ones and is still my favorite. It's so dang true too.

Huey hates men but I've managed to call a truce with him over the last two years. As long as I play by the agreed upon script he won't lash out and rip me to pieces. But we both know me and I like to push my boundaries. Huey is the enforcer.

I come here multiple times a day, I just hardly ever post anything anymore. There's usually nothing new so I move along to my next distraction....

Nothing in the video indicates an issue from what I can see. Do you have plenty of toys and stuff for your Grey to play with? He just looks a little sleepy at the moment. Is he like that all the time or just a nap time?

when do congo african grey parrots start talking
SRSeedBurners replied to steph's topic in The GREY Lounge
My GreycieMae talked a little bit as a young bird and hasn't said a single word in the last 5-6 years. Some just don't talk. -
Happy New Year! It's now the roaring 20s again!

There is always a wrapped gift that contains something something for the birdies. Today it was a container of popcorn, pretzels and little cookies mix. They each had a couple of cookies. GreycieMae helped rip the wrapping off cause she knows there's something good.
