  1. She's actually playing there. We were playing stoopid hooman sticks his hand in the pot and screams game. She will get super fluffly like that hanging from her rope or her net too. When she's on her net, she'll flip over backwards all puffed up and dare you to stick your hand in her fluff...you may lose it You should see how bedtime goes around here. She really gets puffy and bitey then - hates going to bed, just like a little kid.
  2. Awww, that sweet baby face! Looks like you have a great setup. Once baby gets bigger he'll be able to protect himself. I had to keep the reins on GreycieMae until Huey came out of his shell. He then stamped his authority and he's the only bird she can't bully. Greys can definitely take care of themselves against each other - when full grown.
  3. Our Grey Huey is 21 and was not a flyer. We got him on Dec 1st of 2017 and by end of January he was flying, not real graceful but flying...lots of crash landings. I started him out by just giving him a toss onto our bed over and over. Once he got the idea, he started trying to fly on his own and we had some scary moments as he had some very hard landings. I spent about a month flying out of my chair to go provide a landing arm for him when he would launch himself because he was not real good about hitting his landing rope/etc. and would then crash hard. Eventually he's gotten very good at hitting landings and rarely crashes anymore. He's even flown down our hallway and turned and came back which is pretty amazing for such a large bird. He'll never be super acrobatic like our Greycie that learned as a baby but he's a flyer now.
  4. Wife is on this weirdo diet, called the Keto diet. Reduced carbs, increased meats and fats and who knows what else. Today's dinner will be a nice red-tailed jungle chicken dish. I got the meat and fat-fatty covered. Me and Huey are anxiously awaiting the result. MmmmMmmmm...goood.
  5. I have two African Greys with breakfast beards in my food bowl
  6. I'll bet he was pretty clumsy! Huey crash-landed into everything for a couple months before he got his muscles and skills built up. He can now turn around in the hallway like GreycieMae. He's not as talented as her but he gets around.
  7. Great pictures. Love seeing the progress, and so fast too. He knows he bought a winning ticket.
  8. I have around 40 pigeons, high-flyer and homing, plus around 60 chickens. Have no idea what a bird mite is. Maybe one of those mythical bs fake news critters. with my pigeons, canker is the problem. my chickens, coccidiossis (sp?). no mites whatsoever.
  9. We're convinced our Huey worked in a call center prior to coming to live here. He has the most business sounding polite "Hello?" I've ever heard. And he only does it when the phone rings.
  10. That's one way to get a pet. I'll have to try it myself 🤣
  11. I'd give a couple or three weeks on the nail trim.
  12. Looks like you have a nice setup for him. I would say he's asking to slow things down a little with his new situation. They always settle down, it just may take a while. It took our Huey about 6 months to come out of his shell.
  13. May have to try this. I have a few bags of old pellets that have been in the freezer for a while waiting to become a nice birdy bread.
  14. GreycieMae wants to know if you ship?
  15. That's a great photo. Looks like he's digging in! What did the bowl look like after? ❤️❤️❤️
  16. Not sure what set off the "I'm outta here post" but I'd still like to know what your vet prescribed as I am looking for alternatives to Haliperidol. I looked back a few messages to see if I could find what triggered you. Not sure. If you think you'll find a more welcoming group elsewhere have at it. This is a very well-meaning tame forum. You'll be leaving them all if you can't handle this one with 0-5% of the traffic of the others.
  17. Well, he's out of that shithole. Let's rehab and see what happens. If you lived here I'd probably entertain the idea. That's funny you say you're up to 11. In my pea-brain I think I'm still at three, but when I count beaks, I count 8. How the hell does this happen? 🤣
  18. Seeing as how you are in the U.K., you can easily get the chain fly screens over there. They work wonders to stop a bird from flying through an open door. This is what we used on the back door where I lost Tinkerbell twice. Once I put the chain screen up, she won't fly through the door. In case you're wondering, she flew through the door trying to find me. Once I was in the back yard cleaning cages with the door open and she managed to pull her bird room door open and flew out of the house looking for me. Fortunately I was about 50 feet outside and she flew right to me. The second time I was going through the door and had no idea she was in the living room. She landed on me as I was exiting the door.
  19. I usually buy toys to get the parts, like the one you see in the pic. Then it's simply cutting wood blocks or whatever to refill. Since my Greybie is a wood block chipper, I refill with wood. I have another one that loves to chip cardboard. As you can imagine, she's easy to make toys for out of a plain old cardboard box.
  20. Wow. If I rescued that bird, he'd be here permanently. He deserves the best. I hate that they end up in conditions like this. I can't wait to see the 'after' pictures a few months down the road. Get lots of pics to compare. Birdy hit the jackpot.
  21. Would like to know what the vet prescribed. Our Huey is on Haliperidol. I've tried multiple times to wean him off it but 2-3 days after the last dose, he starts to butcher his feet.
  22. Mandatory: a nice stainless bell (bird safe type). Maybe some stainless hanging spoons. My GreycieMae's favorite toy is one I use a miter saw to refill all the time. She can destroy it in a day. It's made from wood blocks and straws on a stainless skewer rod. I don't have many toys in their cages as my birds are rarely caged but here's a shot of the toy I make for her and the little nibblets she leaves behind 🤣:
  23. Sounds like this was meant to be. Yay for the rat for getting things done! 🤣 Rats are actually pretty clean lil varmits. I have rats all over in my chicken and pigeon loft and my pigeons never contract anything from them. Canker is all I deal with and that's a common pigeon disease that they don't get from anything else. You know pictures are mandatory now! I can't wait to hear how this story ends, sweet I hope. Is Isaac's Dad still in the picture?
  24. Looks like you have approval there.
  25. Their personality will take months to come out. We thought we knew our Huey but he keeps surprising us with things his old owner told us he did and is just now starting to do for us over 6 months later.
