  1. Neat video! It would take Timber six months to accept the rope, but what else is new
  2. Your input is appreciated tankeray! Don't let your low post count or anything else stop you from sharing your experiences. That is what this forum is all about. We all put our experiences and opinions out there, and that is how we learn. Thanks again
  3. I'm with you on that Ray. This winter just goes on and on... I would think the change in light might be their reason for understanding that spring is coming (we hope)
  4. Glad to hear all is well with Pearl!
  5. Amen to that. Like human babies, they don't stay babies long! Enjoy it while you can What a beautiful baby!
  6. That looks great! The birds seem to like it too.
  7. That's great! Patience and perseverance wins the day with greys it seems. Wish I could do that, but we have too many hawks. In fact, one has taken up residence in my backyard, probably due to my outside bird feeder which is kept full.
  8. Or longer! Poor business practice not to keep the customer informed. I would have been wondering if I had been scammed too.
  9. Bet time will crawl by until Sunday! Keep us updated and post some pics. We love those baby pics Good luck and God bless!
  10. Hello and welcome! I'm glad you are doing your research. Many of us work outside our homes which means quite a bit of cage time for our birds. I shoot for at least 4 hours of out-of-cage time a day. More is better, but it doesn't always happen. I'm relatively inexperienced, but I would point out that even getting a grey as a baby doesn't come with any guarantees. It is like having a human baby, you have environmental control, but temperament and a lot of other factors are beyond your control. What I mean is you never know if your bird will be a cuddle muffin or standoffish, vocal or quiet, etc. It sounds like you are somewhat prepared for that. Regardless of temperament and disposition, if you are willing to put the time and effort into it your bird will come to trust and care for you. My relationship with my TAG is more meaningful to me than I thought possible, and I've had a variety of "pets" over my lifetime. Good luck and God bless
  11. Yikes! You are right, it could have been worse. That's also why I don't let Timber anywhere near my face, though I can read his body language and trust him to a point now.
  12. They certainly have their personality quirks. Timber will go for hubby's hand often when he is changing food, adding treats, whatever inside the cage. Outside the cage, no problem. I assume it is a form of cage aggression. I can do anything inside the cage, but I am the chosen one.
  13. Yes, it is unfortunately normal, at least in my experience!
  14. LOL They are definitely holding back. When I first rehomed Timber, he left a hole in my arm that I can still find, and that was two years ago!
  15. Having had the skin broken on a bite many times, I can see that you are blessed indeed if they aren't biting hard! As bratbirds pointed out, they often check for stability and "perchability" with their beaks before stepping on anything.
  16. Wish it went that way at my house. Timber has a concrete perch the he uses a lot and often sleeps on. His nails still need trimming every six months. All I am saying is that what works for some doesn't work for all. It's all good
  17. Loved the pics Ray! I suspect that one day I will have an Amazon. One of the things that holds me back is that Timber is so high maintenance and needy. I don't want to rock his boat!
  18. How exciting for you! I can't wait to see pics. Greys don't always accept change easily, but they do adapt. Since you are moving him to an entirely new home, I think he will get over the cage switching. As to treats, I wouldn't use fruit. Fruit should not be much of a grey's diet. I would use nuts as your initial treats instead. Offering them with your hand is great assuming he will accept them. Can't wait to hear an update when you get home!
  19. My four would love it. We have the windows open whenever possible and they are always sitting in them. They have been inside all of their lives though, so don't attempt to get outside.
  20. LOL From what I've read here, most of us can mist our birds at will, but the "full bath" is something they must decide to do on their own! Timber always enjoys misting, but when it is time to open those feathers and get soaked, he is ready when he is ready and not before
  21. FYI, there are a bunch of them if you hit next...
  22. Wow, these pics were fascinating to me. Not built for birds, but for cats. Some awesome ideas there though! https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=832331176782210&set=pcb.832340033447991&type=1&theater
