  1. Loved the video, as always! I am always amazed at how perfectly he has your pitch and intonation down. FYI, Timber says he wants pizza for breakfast too
  2. Lovely pics and video! I have never been able to attract hummingbirds to my feeders, but my mother always had "swarms" of them.
  3. Dee, that is exactly what Timber does. We call it his "alert." He does it when someone is coming in the door etc. I assumed it was an instinctual noise they make to warn the flock of an intruder or other danger. Sterling, nothing to add to the advice already given. Fortunately, Timber only does it for "cause."
  4. He's doing great! Timber can do a bit of fir elise now, but I can never get it recorded! Tricky bird..
  5. Happy hunting! I'm sure you can find an online vendor that will ship to Canada if they don't have a store there. There are probably other choices too, this is just the one that works best for me.
  6. Wilbur does an excellent chicken! Timber's talking seems to go in spurts as well. He will go though periods when he is very verbal, then through times when he doesn't use words at all.
  7. Loved the video! She was enjoying her head scratching so much.
  8. LOL Now that could be the match of the century! Inara, I enjoyed the recap. Thanks for posting
  9. No problems here, but I stay signed in all the time too.
  10. I use this Higgins seed: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=23423 There may be better ones, but I'm satisfied with this and Timber is picky even about his seed! I also sprout seed for him. I get that from sproutpeople.org. They have a good mix especially for birds and they will stay together in the sprouting process. I haven't found another sprout mix I am happy with.
  11. Hello and welcome to you and Woody! I have rehomed Tag, Timber, who is approximately 7.5 years old and assumed mail. Makes it sound like he is in the witness protection program, ha. Can't wait to hear more about your life with Woody and to see some pics of him.
  12. I've had Timber for almost 2.5 years now. A couple of weeks ago, I had my first bite in almost a year. Yes, I got careless and wasn't watching the "signals" he was putting out. I think he has resigned himself to the fact that I'm a "slow learner"
  13. Happy to see your update an that Tequila is growing and thriving! Loved the pics
  14. Here's one Nancy: Dawn is known to "cut the grease". I've unfortunately seen the effects of a few oil spills in my day and we've all seen pictures of those sweet innocent animals covered in black goo. They bathe them in Dawn to get through all that oil. So, if it works for them, it can work here! And it did! The problem was that I didn't do the rest of the oven. So the next day, I came up with this method of cleaning the oven. Here's what you'll need: 1 and 1/2 cups of baking soda 1/4 cup of Dawn Dish soap Water Spray bottle of water Towels Mix the baking soda and Dawn dish soap. Add just enough water to make a liquid paste, kind of like blue icing. I used a sponge paint brush to get my mixture all over the inside of my oven. It was easy to "paint" it on instead of using a spoon. Here it is; all covered in my home made oven cleaner. Now the easy part. Let it sit there for hours, over night if you want. A self-cleaning oven has a cycle of about 5 hours, so there's really no difference except this won't hurt you. The secret here is to spray it with water every few hours. Baking soda has a tendency to "cake" so you want to get the soda back to a liquid-like form. I sprayed mine twice then went to bed, woke up, sprayed with water again, then let it sit another hour. I used the scrubby side of a sponge to scrub the oven. It gets really foamy, so you'll have to clean your sponge a few times. Those gross food spots all over the oven, literally scrub off pretty easily. It won't be perfect or look brand new, but I liked my results. Once you've cleaned an area to your satisfaction, wipe off the cleaning solution with a dry towel. It will be easier than adding water and trying to wipe it off with your sponge. It just gets to soapy in there. Once my oven was cleaned, I turned it on to 350 degrees (F) for about ten minutes. This was to make sure I got all the solution out. It will cake up if you have extra and you can just wipe that off once it cools down.
  15. I can see the pic now! Nilah looks so sweet there.
  16. What great news! I am so pleased for you and Escher.
  17. LOL Cute! If I squeezed Timber like that I would be the one doing the squeaking. He loves scratches, but is very particular about how and where!
  18. I think it depends on the layout of your home. I live in a very large, 1915 vintage home with no central A/C and a boiler (radiators in each room). Timber is on the first story. I do use air freshener type products on the second floor and in the basement and I don't think any of that comes near Timber. I avoid using anything like that in his room or the ones adjoining. I agree with the better safe than sorry way of looking at things, but in my particular case I don't think there is any problem.
  19. Loved the video! Alfie has a nice assortment of sounds effects, and I like the way he uses different "voices" for different words. Thanks for sharing
  20. That's a beautiful story Inara! Thanks for sharing
  21. Fascinating! Thanks for sharing
  22. Good deal! Most of Timber's people language I have only heard via the cam. When I am in the room, he is mostly silent or whistling. When I leave the room, he talks but I can't hear much of it.
  23. That was great! Alfie is an excellent "quacker"
