  1. I feel for you Dan. I still don't like chicken and it dates back to having to help on butchering day. Yikes!
  2. LOL to the rabid buzzard... I with I could help Daniel, but I have never dealt with a screamer.
  3. In my neck of the woods, if it doesn't have a name (I like that one judygram), if you can deep fry it or bbq it you can eat it...
  4. I hadn't heard that about hemp helping with plucking. I've been putting hemp seed in Timber's Mundo Brazil cooked mix. He doesn't pluck, but you never know what may be helping. Good information.
  5. I was raised on a farm, so I've eaten most of those as well. We always drew the line at domesticated animals though. Or maybe we were just never THAT hungry? Makes my skin crawl.
  6. Katie, it is normal for Timber to bite and not let go so I assume others do as well. When he is really angry (or scared) he grinds as well as hanging on. I have had bites that look very similar to yours. Ouch! I feel for you...
  7. LOL Yes that is a look and pose common to all African Greys I think! I always think Timber is thinking "what the heck are you doing now."
  8. Neat video! I could pick up most of what you mentioned. I love watching the videos others submit, and Timber (my TAG) gets excited over them too. Thanks for posting
  9. I'm a "cat person" also. Maybe we are all just "animal people?" I like dogs too, but I like big dogs and live in town. No running room, I won't chain a dog up, so no dog. I do have four house cats. They never go outside. While the neighbors wouldn't eat them (I hope) my house fronts on a very busy street and they would be roadkill if they were out wandering around. The other part of your post is interesting. My cats are so low maintenance in comparison to Timber! Other than the routine stuff like feeding, scooping litter, watering, my cats will let me know when they want a good scratching or they just park on my lap and sleep. They are very independent otherwise. I had no idea when I got Timber of the difference in time and effort that goes into being a bird owner. I don't know what I thought, but I had no idea how needy they are when it comes to time and attention. Timber really makes me happy though, so it's all good! His neediness meets a desire I have to feel needed I suppose.
  10. Hello and welcome to you and Pooka Neat pics, thanks for posting!
  11. Well, thanks for noticing! I read all of the posts, and think a "thanks" is deserved in most cases. If people take the time and effort to post on the forums, it's the least I can do! The forum has been an enormous help to me. Don't know where I'd be without it :)

  12. Approximately twelve hours is what I have read as well. Timber goes to bed at 8 PM. I have to be up at 5:30 AM. I've noticed he does nap during the day when I'm home though so I hope he gets enough sleep!
  13. LOL He's using that spoon like a pro! Better than most 2 year olds for sure...
  14. No expert here, but I'm wondering if Paco is coming around (which your pics indicate) but just hasn't reached the level of trust yet to step up? Good point about you not knowing "how" Paco steps up either. That's the problem with a rehome. They are programmed to do things a certain way, you don't know what it is, and change doesn't come easy to them. All, in all, great progress though!
  15. I just started googling to find the one around here. They also list on craigslist under pets when one is upcoming.
  16. Timber has a concrete perch he sleeps on, a cactus perch that he likes to stand on to eat, and a long wooden perch running diagonally across his cage that he doesn't chew up. The rope perches are all fair game and will be destroyed and enjoyed.
  17. Hello and welcome! Be sure to post lots of pics.
  18. Mine are all front declawed. However, they pack a meaner bite than you would suspect if really trying and they are big. If they landed on him it would be major damage! The lightest is about 15 pounds and the largest is 20. Just creeps me out thinking about it. On the other hand, Timber is always the aggressor. He trys to bite their tails as they pass by the cage, meows to try to get them to stick a nose in the cage etc.
  19. So sad! On the other hand, Raven probably had the best months of her life there with you and your wife.
  20. The second one is very similar to Timber's cage also. He seems to like all the side-to-side space to move around, and I like the playtop as well.
  21. I buy a lot of my stuff from http://www.drsfostersmith.com Also from my http://www.mysafebirdstore.com/ I've found decent deals on rope perches etc. on Amazon.com The best deals I've gotten are at a bird fair. There is one about an hour from here twice a year. I don't have a specific rotation schedule, which might be a mistake. When I notice Timber has lost interest in a toy or doesn't mess with it for a week, I put another one in. Rinse and repeat
  22. Many of us have other pets in the house. I have four cats. You have to be vigilant all the time. Timber is never allowed on the floor. Once in awhile he will fly and land on the floor, but I'm always there to scoop him up. That said, my cats have never shown much interest in Timber. He is more interested in attracting their attention and pursuing them. If I had a cat who had been outside, been a hunter etc. I would be more worried than I already am. I either lock the cats away or lock Timber in the cage if I am not able to give their whereabouts and activities total attention. Wish it wasn't this way, but there it is!
