  1. Neat pics, thanks for sharing Timber (TAG) is abpit six and is a sort-a-cuddler. He will let me scratch around his head and beak as long as I'm willing. He will put his beak down on my stomach and stay there for as long as I scratch. I suspect if I tried to put my hand around his head like that he would NOT have it... He will let me scratch just about anytime, but he is more likely to be "cuddly" at bedtime.
  2. Just beautiful! Thanks for sharing
  3. Let me know how it goes! I'd like to give it a shot myself.
  4. I'm sure you and your bird will have many more years together! I agree that it is good to be prepared though. I'd be looking for someone who is quite young. I'd volunteer, but I'm only 14 years younger so probably wouldn't be a good choice! I want to arrange for Timber to go to someone that will outlive him, which means they need to be pretty young.
  5. I don't know what a balut egg is, but I'm not liking the sound of it!
  6. Hello and welcome to you and Pepper!
  7. If this has been posted before just ignore it! I hadn't seen it and thought it was cool that they give measurements and directions. Enjoy! http://abirdsbestlife.wordpress.com/2011/04/06/spherical-swing-2/
  8. My TAG is pretty "quiet." He doesn't scream, and talks in a "normal" tone. He does whistle a lot, which can be pretty piercing but not annoying (not in my mind anyway). Timber is six now. I've had him for 14 months. While I know he has had an affair with a bell in his cage, he doesn't change his behavior toward us. I have no experience with Amazons, but from what I've read here on the forum they get a little more aggressive and moody when they get hormonal. That said, I'd still like to have an Amazon at some time!
  9. Like Dan said, you do the best you can. I and many other forum members work outside the home full time. I do the best I can on keeping a routine Timber can count on (most days). He doesn't have as much out of cage time as I'd like, but as Dan says he has adjusted and seems content. I too tell him where I'm going to. He knows when I say "gotta go to work" that he has to go in the cage. He also knows I'll be gone for sometime. He knows the difference between that and be right back. I can tell he knows the difference because of his behavior and his responses.
  10. Neat idea! Timber seems to love noisy toys above the others.
  11. Oh yuck! I sure hope it isn't a bitterly cold winter. We have had an amazingly mild summer in our neck of the woods though. Good advice to be prepared.
  12. A good report from the vet is always such a relief.
  13. Hello and welcome to you and Petri! I'm looking forward to the pics. I've never had a baby, I rehomed my TAG at age 5. I also won't comment on training, since I've been the only one to receive any since I brought Timber home
  14. That would be a shock! No advice here as I have no experience.
  15. Hello and welcome! I have no experience with babies, but many members here do and someone will be along to give you information.
  16. Hello and welcome! What a beautiful flock you have there. Looking forward to seeing and hearing more from you
  17. I've never had more than one bird, so really don't know much about this. I do know that any change in Timber's environment or routine affects him. I would think having a new flockmate would qualify for a major change. There will probably be a shakedown period until everyone gets acclimatized!
  18. LOL! You are definitely a deficient parront if you haven't taught him chess yet. Get your act together!
  19. What a scary situation for you. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Echo!
  20. LOL! That looks like something people in my neck of the woods would come up with. Every time I see this kind of stuff I'm thinking "man I hope the neighbors don't see that, they'll try it!"
  21. That looks like neat stuff! I was surfing over there the other day. I haven't made any decisions yet though.
  22. If the bird was harnessed wouldn't it be dangerous? If not, there would be the risk of flying away...
  23. Oh, thanks for the explanation Dave! The wealth of wisdom on this forum never ceases to amaze me
