  1. I feel for you! Timber hates the towel, and usually all I have to do is wave it around and he goes in his cage. I hate doing it, but sometimes it is my last resort.
  2. Good to hear from you! It sounds like you have built a good relationship with your grey. As to the others in the house, greys seem to like who they are going to like, period. I wonder though if the others in the family have tried to build a relationship with him? Not trying to touch, but just sitting quietly by the cage and talking to him etc.?
  3. Keri, in answer to your question about the food, most of our birds do waste a lot. Another thing I've noticed is that Timber eats in what seems to be a pattern. One day he will eat, eat, eat, then the next day and sometimes two he just picks. When you can, you need to start getting a weight at least once a week. Because of the way they waste food, it is difficult to tell how much they are really eating. Weighing regularly is the only way to really tell if they are gaining/losing weight.
  4. Good to hear from you! Glad that Jellybean is doing well, and glad to hear your husband may be home soon. God bless
  5. Timber hates the steam mop above all others. Interesting point about the hissing!
  6. In less than two weeks... nice going! Loved the pics too
  7. Same here. When I first rehomed Timber, I took him to the vet. She suggested that I put a concrete perch highest to help with his nails. She said they tend to sleep on the highest perch available. In Timber's case, it is true. He sleeps on whatever perch is highest in the cage. Timber is an adult though, and you have a baby. I don't have any experience to offer there!
  8. Deuce would have been a great name! I like Pooka too though. I think all of our birds say only what they want to say, so you are in good company there. Cooking is one of my passions as well. I haven't tackled a 4000 year old recipe (that I know of) yet though!
  9. Hello and welcome to you and Morgan! As the others have said, it usually takes months, not days to earn a grey's trust. Give her plenty of time and you will see the trust and relationship develop.
  10. Good to hear from you! I'm glad all is going well for you and Escher
  11. How's it going, we need an update
  12. Those markings on Crickett's wings are beautiful! Thanks for sharing and post more when you can!
  13. Now I feel much better! Nice pics thanks for sharing. Looks like Nala is doing great
  14. It was a fun subject! I don't think anyone failed to eat their dinner over it, though it certainly wouldn't hurt me to skip one!
  15. One of these mornings (maybe not next) I'll bet Gus will forget to go hide! Some things just become a habit even when the fear is actually gone.
  16. Timber preens off and on all the time (like you described). That is natural and doesn't mean he is plucking.
  17. I think Dave was referring to the possible transfer of bacteria or virus from person to bird, or the fact that a bad bite can happen to the lips or face. I don't think any of us (including the birds) would interpret kissing between humans and bird as sexual. Google "parrot bite to lips" and look at the pics sometime. Nancy, this is not directed at you. What we all choose to do with our birds (kissing etc.) is our own business. I'm glad you have that kind of trust with Sophie. I made this comment for those of us with less experience and trust. Not all birds will ever get to the point of being totally trustworthy all the time. I agree with a statement I've seen here many times, never forget that birds are wild and are not domesticated.
  18. Beautful pics, thanks for sharing I love the name Loki and am glad to hear he is doing well! Wish I could take Timber out like that but 1) I can't get my hands on him enough to get a harness on and 2) we have hawks Timber's outings are limited to the pack-o-bird.
  19. LOL I sure had a visual of Gus and his "flock" of dogs there! Sounds like it makes him happy though. Timber hates tennis shoes and feet in general as well. A previous owner said she was carrying her toddler, he was on the floor, and she accidentally kicked him because she didn't see him. Supposedly that was the start of his "foot hate." Makes sense.
  20. Woohoo! Great idea to keep them all together. Thanks for posting
  21. Thanks for the video. I don't have any baby experience, but I'll bet that will be helpful when someone with experience comes along. Sorry!
  22. No pics since day 2. Tsk, tsk, tsk...
  23. I seriously doubt we are done yet Dave...
  24. Not much experience here but can you explain what you mean? Are you talking about head bobbing?
