  1. Anyone know how to get images to show up right in the post?

  3. I turn the remote over hiding the rubbery buttons. Then Dayo just rests her head on it to be scratched but if it is upright she's determined to bite those rubbery buttons off.
  4. Had a "Lobectomy" on Monday. Glad to be home from a week in the hospital. Now I can finally get some rest! Dayo is home as well. Had a "Bird Trainer" come before I left just because we had a few biting incidents and mostly I wanted to make sure I was doing everything I could to bring up a healthy happy bird. He's the one who convinced me to clip her wings. Unfortunately the trainer's approach was severely outdated and Dayo hated him. She growled at him all morning and while she had never bitten in anger or fear before our "training" session. Last night I got a nasty bite from her which was clearly an anger bite. I know I can overcome this but it's just so frustrating all the mistakes I am making. One step forward two steps back.
  5. Miss Dayo and I love Mysafebirdstore.com
  6. How nice Misty sits on the monitor. Dayo tries to pry the plastic away from the screen. She is a terror around my computer. It's missing a few keys and the chord has black tape in several spots... not that I leave her unsupervised but she is just so darn fast
  7. If there is anything that Paco is afraid of you can put that on KoKo's cage and Paco will avoid it.
  8. Thank you so much everybody. I don't know why I didn't think to come here first for advice. The lesson is learned that is for sure. The good news is that she does not seam to have held it against me at all. She's as loving as ever but still not her very happy active noisy self. The people who will be watching her are really awesome with her so I feel very good about leaving her with them. She will be in good hands in my absents.
  9. I have to have surgery on Monday. I will be in hospital for a week and was very worried about leaving my flighted parrot with anyone to care for. As you may know it's hard to find bird people and even if you do a flighted parrot requires special attention and environment. So I had a parrot trainer come today and he convinced me to "Groom" or clip her wings. I decided it was the best thing to do under the circumstances and after all, they'd grow back. But now I thoroughly regret my decision. He said she would be a different parrot and he was right... My playful happy girl it completely subdued. She just sits in one place and occasionally tries to fly unsuccessfully so she flies into a cabinet or a wall when she is trying to fly to me...it is the saddest thing. I hope she begins to feel better tomorrow and I swear I will never do this to her again.
  10. Aww. poor baby. I always have to remove Dayo from my shoulder because she can't resist biting my ear.
  11. I found that it helps to put my left hand on the feared object and then show her the object (assuming she's sitting on my right hand) with my hand on the object it is less scary - That is how I showed her the pumpkin and helped her to overcome her fear of a scary orange shower perch I bought her.
  12. They are so funny when they decide something is pure evil. I collected a bunch of very cool driftwood to use as perches and Dayo would have no part of it. So now I use it to keep her away from stuff I don't want her to eat or land on. I lay a large piece of driftwood across my desk to keep her from eating the keyboard and everything else on the desk. When my mom comes over she holds a piece in her lap to keep Dayo away from her... The kitchen counter next to the stove... the list goes on. It works like a charm
  13. It's that time of year again ... http://www.bluedawg.com/Dayo/DSC_0004.jpg http://www.bluedawg.com/Dayo/DSC_0005.jpg
  14. Wow, thank you Nancy! That is so generous of you... but thankfully not necessary. I do have family close by and I have friends who will come stay at my house while I am away who will watch most of my animals but not miss Dayo. I need a "bird" person to watch her and I have another friend (bird person) who has volunteered to watch her. I am truly blown away by your generosity.
  15. Thank you Nancy, I have been trying to find the right person to watch her when I have to go in for surgery. I don't believe in clipping wings so it really has to be someone who is good with birds who will understand the intricacies and possible hazards of having a flighted bird. She has learned my house very well but it might be tough to bring a fully flighted bird to a strange house to stay. I am hoping I will only be in the hospital for like a week so if they keep her in her cage for that time it won't be too bad... I know if I were to "board" her at the vet she'd be in a small crate type cage the whole time. At least her own cage is large and familiar. I hate to leave her alone. She will not understand what is happening.
  16. I was a bit worried after getting my cancer diagnosis that my Dayo would think less of me, since birds often hide their own illness so as not to be shunned by the flock and all. I had my final chemo tx last Thursday and I was quite ill this time around. I was pleasantly surprised to find Miss Dayo seamed to know I was ill and would sit quietly, sometimes all day long so I could rest and be ill in peace. She just wanted to be near me and sat near me the whole time lovingly and quietly. I am constantly so amazed by her depth.
  17. I LOVE this philosophy - Thank you so much, This will help me tremendously with Dayo. I never wanted to be the Alpha anyway Thank you, Thank you, now I can just let her be her and me be me. And the part about asking before you "do" - Just makes perfect sense. I just read the back story - so heartbreaking and sad. So sorry.
  18. Thanks for the input Jayd - it's very helpful. Interesting to use the flax seed and not the oil... wonder if I can just add that to the sprouting mix.
  19. I have been feeding this to dayo since I got her at 6 months old about a year ago. She was still on a baby formula then so I transitioned her over to this whole foods diet. It went smoothly. She loves her greens and carrots etc... I usually add mung beans to the sprouting mix, she loves those sprouted. I'd say I havn't noticed a difference because this is what she has always eaten. She also has organic pellets available to her throughout the day which she picks on from time to time and some other dried fruit & nut mixes that she picks at during the day as well. Oh and Bird bread and sweet potatoes, she snacks on lots of stuff during the day - Wouldn't want her to be hungry
