  1. Re: dog... Dayo gets the same treatment from Melly (dog) while eating - The dog/parrot paradigm
  2. It may be more a case of Chicken bothering everyone else Can a Tortoise withdraw into it's shell? That picture is adorable. Humans have so much to learn from animals
  3. I would police (keep an eye on everyone) until they learn to interact with each other and you learn how they will interact with each other and keep a close eye on the tortoise until you know how Chicken will behave since the tortoise can't move very fast. I often have to protect the dog and cat from Miss Dayo even though they will run off before she gets close I don't think they should be bothered if they are napping or even resting. I used to keep a closer eye on everyone but now I know how everyone acts so it's less of an issue.
  4. My understanding is that the bell concern is about her beak getting wedged in those sharp slots. Also with other bells that are not stainless they often dismantle the small inner ringer and since they love to roll small objects around in their mouth you want to be careful of what the bell is made of. Metals can be toxic. Best to stay with the stainless steel. About swallowing small parts, I did ask my bird vet when I first got Dayo as it occurred to me as well and she was reluctant to say it wouldn't happen but my take is that they are not likely to swallow small objects as small children do. Dayo loves to play with beads and she also had an abacus toy that she likes to move things around on. They are so talented with their beaks and tongue they roll things around in there for hours. Often Dayo will pick up two parts and try and put one inside of the other all with just her beak and tongue.
  5. Watching Big Bang Theory... Then Modern Family. My Sunday night Line up
  6. This is what I found: It's the same species.... people are just putting names on them such as "King" or "Cameroon" or "Ghana" usually so that they can get more money for the birds... like humans, the color and size of birds can vary within a species... such as how you can have a human family who have varying shades of brown and/or blonde hair and varying height, so goes the same for parrots! Some of these "king/cameroon/ghana" greys are scams.... otherwise though it's usually just some person trying to make an extra buck off of a bird.... and if you find a breeder who is selling one of these "birds" then walk away and find someone else!
  7. Oh no... Well I certainly hope it's you he gets to go home with.
  8. Hah, That's a good name! He sure does look like a handsome bird. When can you bring him home?
  9. Understood What country are you from? Do you know why it is that they do not breed them there? I look forward to hearing all about your experiences. Thanks for being a member here. Did you name him yet?
  10. I understand your frustration but please read this article... http://magazine.africageographic.com...hades-of-grey/ These are such highly intelligent birds with such a long lifespan and complex social structure that taking babies away from their parents to be sold in pet stores is a real horror story. The practice needs to be stopped and the truth is if people didn't buy them there would be no need to do it. I also tend to agree with you though that if you can give this bird a good life at least you can save this one soul. It's a complicated situation. perhaps through learning about your grey and how very special he is you can advocate for the end of the capture of wild greys for sale in pet stores.

    Five Facts

    1. I am less than a month away from 50 2. I am currently in school going for a bachelors in Medical technology "Life is Greyt" - anything you can share with me about this career? 3. I used to be an art Director in Advertising - good riddance to that career! 4. When I was young I spoke to horses 5. Some of my best friends have been dogs.
  14. Watching "Cosmos - A space time Odyssey" w/ Neil deGrass Tyson on Netflix - had a snow day from work and school. I should be studying
  15. I am sorry but if your only option is to purchase a grey that has been caught from the wild than you should not purchase a grey. Have you done any research into this? it is horribly cruel. If people didn't buy them then people would stop trapping them in the wild. I can not believe anyone would condone this purchase.
  16. Aww - what a sweety. Looks like she's lying down too. Dayo stands for her cuddles, she's never lie down like that. Maybe some day
  17. What can I say, I'm a weather buff... I love a good storm.
  18. Birdhouse, where are you located? I am in Croton on Hudson, NY. We were promised an Historic event, A blizzard of epic proportions etc, etc, etc. I was so excited - I wanted to see history being made but alas in we only got 2"!
  19. It's probably the new spot. He's used to the old spot and gets restless to return to it when the lights are out. Miss dayo wants to be on her night perch when the lights go out or she gets very restless because she can't fly there on her own in the dark. A nightlight might help him to get used to his new space and since he's used to the night light that's another change to get used to if you all of a sudden don't use one.
  20. Thanks for that Nancy. I understand now. Very helpful! I have to work for now around my school schedule so for now there are a couple nights a week when I won't be around to reinforce but since reading what you and others have said here I do take her and put her up around 8:00. It seams to help her make the decision to go to bed if I place her up there.
  21. Those cables are Miss Dayo's favorite things to grab. And she's so quick! My laptop cable is a modge podge of white cable and black electrical tape... It's my second one.
  22. LOL - I have the same issue with my laptop. First thing I do is pull out the power cord then cover they keys with towel, rag, t-shirt - whatever is at hand. Funniest post ever!
  23. luvparrots, that seams ideal and mostly how it is at my house as well since I have no shades on windows and I use very little light after dark, dayo sleeps when the sun goes down but she will always get up to visit with me if I get home late and I am glad she has the option to do this since she is not caged. Also she is always the first one up in the morning and flies down to start doodling about... first order of business, get the dog off the bed. Once that is accomplished she plays with stuff for a bit and soon enough will start nibbling on my ear until I give in and get up. Then the whole gang moves together into the kitchen to see about breakfast... we do everything together
  24. Nancy, I say this not in the spirit of argument but because I want to better understand the thinking & logic behind what you are saying. Why or how did you come to believe that birds must go to bed at or around 8:00 more importantly that bedtime is not their choice? Are you also saying that bedtime requires them to be placed in their cages for the night and again if so what’s your thinking behind this.
