  1. I could watch them for hours. Beautiful! So full of grace and peace.
  2. Every Morning and every evening Miss Dayo eats her food then tosses the bowl making a mess across the counter and sometimes onto the floor. Tonight I got smart and looked around for something she could not toss... A small cast Iron pan is Perfect. It even has a little perch on the side... like it was made for parrot meal time! It's the little victories that make my day
  3. Wow JeffNok, Gracie sounds amazing! Such a great relationship you have with her.
  4. I learn a lot from shanlung Posts... Just do a search for shanlung and start reading
  5. Thanks! The pic seams to show upside down for some and not for others. Might be a Mac PC thing. I am on a Mac and it appears correct for me.
  6. After a few days of using the time- out cage Dayo has learned when I am going to put her in it and flies away which leads to a chase around the house and what started as one bite turns into 5-10 by the time I get her in the cage and by which time she has no idea what she's going in for and she's scared and upset. I'm thinking this is not the solution for us.
  7. Hello Muse, yup. I've gotten those punishment bites as well. Sometimes Dayo gives me a bite when I put her in the cage and sometimes even when I take her out if she was really pissed about being in there. Usually I have learned to turn my hand quickly to avoid most bite attempts but when they get you on the arm like that... Ouch!
  8. Nancy, another question... How did you determine which bites warrant a time out? Dayo is very mouthy... Always feeling and communicating with her mouth. The range is from soft loving to holding on while she swings someplace to a squeeze harder than you'd like but more of a communication than an aggression to a full out aggressive lunge bite. I would only like to give her a time out for the full out lunge bite. What say you?
  9. Yes, thank you. I am feeling like we make real progress today. I am sure the sentiment will come and go but so far so good. She looks at me when I am taking her out of her time out like.. "Well, what'd you do that for???" Talk about Anthropomorphism. We have our little upbeat chat about biting then I put her back on her perch play area and she slow motion steps off without biting looking still stunned from the time out then she shakes it off and it's back to play time.
  10. Well I just started implementing the "Time Outs". Dayo just went in for her Third time out in just a few hours. I feel awful. It is emotionally very difficult to do. I am using her clear Lucite Carrying Case since she hates that. I think she's not yet connecting the bad behavior with the time out.
  11. Lol. Thanks, this is all so very helpful
  12. Thanks Nancy, Dayo will be three this May. And I think she is molting as well but still she has not really learned not to bite. My giving her a stern "NO BITE" just seams to entertain her. This method sounds promising. Today she is all full of love and sweetness. Day before yesterday was one bite after another. Seams like moodiness which could be either terrible twos or molting right?
  13. http://www.bluedawg.com/Peeps.JPG How do I post an image right in the post? I forgot how.
  14. Ok, so what's up with the biting! Dayo broke my skin for the first time the other day. She's been really crabby and is lunging at me for what seams to me to be no good reason... I'm just minding my own business and she flies down, looks me in the eye and kapow she lunges at one of my hands. I've started picking her up and making her step from hand to hand when she bites me. I don't think it's working though as she's still biting whenever she gets crabby. Is this something that all parrots do or is it that I have not done a good job with her?
  15. Miss Dayo also likes to tap on windows. Especially if she sees me outside. Walls too... ceilings etc. I saw a parrot on You Tube who would knock on the wall or ceiling then say "Hello?"... Quite cute.
  16. Miss Dayo bites me regularly though usually not too hard. She has even learned to say "Ow, Ow, Ow" Just like I say it after she bites me. Sometimes she beats me to it. She usually does respond to a quick sharp "Ah, Ah". That will get her to stop the bite and look at me. Then it is up to me change the dynamics of the situation quickly.
  17. Yes, it's like the human condition called alien hand.
  18. Here is another video of Miss Dayo playing...
  19. So recently I was playing ancient frog on my iPad which featured some pretty cool rain forest background sounds. it occurred to me Ms Dayo might like to hear these sounds since I think they originate from where her relatives are from. Probably not but maybe something close anyway. So I downloaded a rainforest track to my iPad and played it over my wireless speaker for her while she sat and ground her beak before bedtime. She didn't react much. she looked around at first but then ignored it I think I found it more relaxing than she did. I've played it a few times since then during the day time and she's very much more vocal when I have it on. I feel like it makes our home closer to her natural environment. I left it playing while I went out today and when I came home she was much more nippy than usual I thought maybe it's bringing out the wild in her. or maybe it makes her uptight, But that's just a guess she could've just been more nippy for some other reason. Will keep experimenting...
  20. Yes, that might work... even better pick up some book especially for them. When I am reading a softcover Dayo wants to eat the book while I read it so I keep pointing to the left side of the book (Where I have already read) and she seams content to focus on that. The Psych book was too expensive to let her chew so giving her her own book did the trick but that piece of paper sticking out was of no use - she had no interest in it. I do sometimes have a book mark sticking out the top which has a dangly button on it those keep her attention away from the book for a while. I have a bunch of them to spare though so it's no issue when she chews them up.
  21. Well that didn't work... I missed a part of the URL here they are again... Here she is helping me study... Then I gave her her own book... snacking on cherries... Love... Love...
  22. Aww, that is so kind of you to ask about Ms. Dayo. She is a two year old CAG. We have some history on this forum with training and mostly mistakes I have made but all in all we are doing very well together. She is the love of my life. I am currently working part time from 4:30 - 8:30 so I have lots of time with her. I have learned so much just reading these posts. Last night I read through the Bite Me club forum... lots of good stuff in there and similar behaviors such as nipping to get attention... she does that. Most of what I learned about Greys I learned after I got her so I am somewhat riddled with guilt for "Owning" her and am resolved to give her the best life she can have albeit in captivity. My dream for her is to get her harness trained so I can take her outside to fly and experience some outdoors. Here are some more photos of the princess ... Here she is helping me study... Then I gave her her own book... snacking on cherries... Love... Love...
  23. Oh I see, Maybe it's because I am on a MAC. I only get the one option to type the URL of the image.
