  1. danmcq I here ya! LOL! It is a riot watching them processing meaning with words. Sometimes it gets all mixed up, while they try so hard to figure it out. We always guide them. Nancy
  2. Beefernandez22...,gotta get him to stepup to show dominate side. Nancy
  3. She will get better overtime. Meanwhile... enjoy being a new mom! We are all here to help you. Ask any question, someone here will know! I wish I knew of this site when Sophie came home, as she knew more than me! LOL! She STILL knows more than me.... but I'm learning! Even a decade later. Nancy
  4. Nicki Welcome to you , Jude and family! This is a GREAT site! I'm so sorry about Doris.I know you will never forget her. Bless you, for opening your heart to a new baby that needs you. Nancy
  5. Lucy, Odin sounds like he is settling in quite nicely. Welcome! Nancy and Sophie
  6. Jeffnok... You are a GREAT parent. Very patient for Gracie! She focuses on the "cognitive" aspects with learning. I hope you are ready for the accelerating learning she is about to demonstrate. I've watched her for a long time. She is one of my favorites! Nancy
  7. Talon... you can never ignore those precious moments... Nancy
  8. All babies will land on our heads. Redirect her down to your wrist. I'm a big wrist advocate, until they learn to trust and follow rules, this is where my birds stayed until they learned. This prevents fascial bites, etc. Nancy
  9. LOL! She sounds like she will love rymes! Sophie's favorite.... Kootchiekootchiekoo Nancy
  10. I'm so glad you all can help each other out. I live in Rochester, NY, where we have what I consider to be the number one avian vet specialist in Ny. Nancy
  11. Thanx all. Sean showed up today, I wasn't expecting him for a few more days. I invited him in the see the birds. Sophie stepped up to me, offered him one foot. One on me, one on him! LOL! He praised her, she blew him a kiss. He is amazed by her. Ollie my pup was all over him. He DOES have a way with animals. Its amazing! Nancy
  12. Jocelyn It will happen! It unfortunately takes time. Nancy
  13. Sophie is right footed.Funny though.... I have an 18 year old coming in daily to play with her, get to know her, since he will be taking care of the birds in two weeks when I go on vacation. She stepped up to me with her right foot, offered him her left foot. One foot on me, one foot on him. Back to me of coarse, but we praised her, she blew him a kiss! Nancy
  14. Ykies! I have two dogs, one bird who barks... Sophie. She has two barks. A regular bark, and a ferocious bark. LOL Nancy
  15. Training begins the day they walk into your home. Nancy
  16. I spent an hour watching Sophie preen. Serious work! She would seperate her feathers, in one claw, clean and preen. I found it amazing! Nancy
  17. I am going away in two weeks for a week. Dogs will be boarded. I usually hire a teenager to take care of the birds, but many they know, have gone off to college.I have had a young man, age 18, doing alot of yard work for me. He discovered the birds, when coming in for a drink of water. He LOVES them! I decided to hire him to care for birds, with a backup babysitter, checking in on them. This young man's mom will be assisting him as a backup. I had him comeover today to feed the birds, help clean the cages. He did great! Sophie stepped right up! He's going to comeover three times a week to practice feeding them. Am I making the right decision? He has a way with my animals. Sean has autism. Highly functional. My animals just " took" to him right away. I'm trusting their instincts. Would you? Nancy
  18. Dave007... well YOU told me! LOL! Of coarse you didn't offend me, intimidate me, or hurt my feelings.I am secure with myself and my birds, that I don't need you to respect me. I still LOVE YA! You have a wealth of knowledge, that I know, I always will tap into. Nancy
  19. lol! i loved the last picture the most! Like mama, like son! Pose is the same... it was the cutest! Nancy
  20. katana is so right! Terrible two's with a little sweetness on the side.LOL! I don't think Simon is a late bloomer! You have to watch out for those quiet ones. I think they are learning and absorbing a wealth of information.Sophie came home at two, but had a wonderful owner. She didn't talk alot. At two and 1/2, her vocabulary accelerated...now she talks soooooooooooooooo much sometimes I wish for ten minutes of quiet. ( of coarse then I would worry something was wrong!) NaNCY
  21. lol! We would ALL love to hear Bobbie singing! Yay for Bobbie! I would compliment her at the end. Even better... if she sings the same song, learn it, and sing it back. You are doing something to make Bobbie comfortable, even though you probably don't know what it is ( I didn't either!) You're on the right road. Nancy
  22. berryblonde2u Welcome! Bobbies's future has endless possibilities! Doesn't sound like the wife really cared about this bird either, otherwise Bobby would be with her. Don't fret that you didn't get alot of info from the owners. It sounds like they didn't care about this bird, so info they would have given you, probably would be wrong, with what is best for your new addition. A clean slate. Bobby is yours now. Bobby is certainly capable of loving all of you. They do tend to favor one family member in the beginning. Thats okay. Be patient. Spend time as a family with your bird. Let Bobby see you all love each other, and are a family unit. Sophie came here at age two. She loves me for being mom (ROM), she loves Ryan as her boyfriend, she loves Sean as her favorite toy.( noone can play tag and hidenseek like him!) LOL Nancy
  23. Jay, Dan and Dave... we appreciate you all.You need to learn to work together! all facts are "great", but if you don't learn to work together, noone is going to respect you! Nancy
  24. I unfortunately, will have to skip this room. My Amazon, is a little different. Nancy
  25. Talon... bless you! You are an amazing parent.Don't get mad at me, but Nilah needs to learn boundaries! She is making the rules! You are excepting them! You MUST take over parental control. Nancy
