  1. You can always use a web cam and I know that the VLC player will allow you to capture photos from a video by just pushing a button.
  2. I like that they are individually packed and sealed. Great for the emergency bag.
  3. Thanks. I'll compare what they offer with what my local store does.
  4. I found a local grocer that carries packages of freeze dried organic vegies and fruits. These are plain with no chemicals, additives, preservatives or spices nothing except for the vegie or fruit pictured. I was thinking that they might make a nice occasional snack and be good for the emergency bag because they will keep if unopened. What do you all think? Safe or not safe.
  5. IMHO its better that you notice that you weren't connecting now rather than later.
  6. Have you tried weaving strips of rawhide through the holes? If he doesn't freak out and dismantles it you can run the strips through the holes, string some beads with knots and tie it off on the other end... kind of like making it spikey.
  7. Thank you all for the help. There is a medical needs foster family that also thanks you. Pellets aren't considered allergen free and its become an issue with their foster agency.
  8. Thank you Dave. I didn't phrase that right. I knew what I meant but obviously my fingers didn't Is there a list or a chart somewhere that lists anything similar to the RDA for humans? I don't wish to use vitamin supplements but when using pellets and fresh foods I want to keep on target.
  9. Does anyone know of a website or pdf that lists the vitamins and minerals along with the amounts that should be fed daily? Thanks
  10. This one is not fid friendly. I made this recipe yesterday and really liked it. http://www.crumbblog.com/2012/01/part-of-a-complete-breakfast-multigrain-apple-muffins.html I used Red River Cereal because I'm trying empty the container. I peeled the apples since I don't care for the peel cooked. I used local raw filtered honey. I refuse to use that honey bear stuff from the grocery store. Most of that stuff comes from China. I much prefer to support my local bee keepers. Multigrain Apple Muffins Ingredients 1 1/4 cup milk 1 cup multigrain hot cereal (ie. Red River or Bob’s Red Mill) 1 egg 1/4 cup honey 1/4 cup canola oil 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 1 cup flour 1 tbsp flax meal *** see below 1 tsp salt 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1 cup diced unpeeled apples Instructions In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until small wisps of steam begin to appear. Remove from heat. Stir in the cereal, and let stand for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 400F and generous butter the cups of a 12-cup muffin tin. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together egg, honey, oil, applesauce and vanilla until smooth. In a separate bowl, combine flour, salt, flax meal, baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon. Add to the wet ingredients, along with the softened cereal, and stir until the mixture just barely comes together (it’s okay if there are a few floury streaks here and there – the key is to avoid overmixing). Fold the chopped apples into the batter, then spoon into the prepared muffin tin, distributing the batter evenly between the cups. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until the muffins are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out with a moist crumb. ***You can make flax seed meal by grinding flax seed in your blender. I have a mini food processor that works well.
  11. Many years ago I took in an amazon that was about 12 years old. The amazon's cage was across from the mans bedroom. One morning I woke up to hear some interesting sounds, including a squeaky bed spring, coming from the dining room. I was the only one home. I laughed like crazy. You don't know how tempted I was to call the former owner and just let him listen.
  12. Yes you should be concerned. They can and will learn everything and anything you don't want them to including any sounds they hear.
  13. Now for the million dollar question... who's been using that word?
  14. I wish breeders/shops would educate themselves so they could offer a choice and take the time to explain.
  15. You might like Bridget's song then. It has a hint of country and its a little bluesy. I can't wait for her first cd.
  16. Bridget Barkan is an up and coming singer and song writer that I had the pleasure to meet a few years ago. She is beautiful both inside and out.
  17. The band Hurts is another good one. They can't seem to make it in the USA and its a shame.
  18. I often listen to music when I surf the net. I like a wide variety from some folk music, to traditional jazz to harder rock and pop. Tonight I'm enjoying a little Mike and the Mechanics. Silent Running is one of my favorites from this band. So what are you listening to?
  19. Oh your poor doggies. They have become moving targets.
  20. At the bird show today I saw a video of grey's playing with a toy. This toy was very simple. It was a coconut shell half with piece of wood for a top. Now this piece of wood had been cut so that it had a lip and fit onto the coconut shell and didn't just slide off. Then there was a largish hole in the middle of the top. Anyway, the video showed a grey trying to fling a wiffle ball into that coconut shell while the top was off and another fitting the wiffle ball through the hole then working the top off to get it back. In the video both birds and humans seemed to be having a good time. If your concerned about the safety of the materials in the one I saw I don't see why the same thing couldn't be made from a stainless steel dish or other container, a piece of bird safe wood and an unpainted wooden bead. Disclaimer: There are inherent dangers in any toy. Please use due diligence when providing anything for your fid. Injury or death could occur when interacting with any item whether it is deemed bird safe or not.
  21. That gave me a giggle. You'd pee your pants at my setup. The cage is set up in the living room and is birdless. Every time I walked into the room I found myself walking over to look at the bird and duh its empty. I put 2 stuffed monkeys in there in hopes I would stop doing this. Did it work? Nope. But at least now it looks like I'm walking over to peer at the stuffed animals.
  22. 1/2 tsp of salt in an entire loaf. How many grains do you think end up in an amount that a grey will eat. I just did the math and checked various websites for the sodium content in fresh (not canned or frozen) vegetables. 1/2 of a slice of that bread, which is quite a large piece but worked nicely for the math, would equal the same amount of sodium that is in 1/2 cup of celery, or 1/2 cup of broccoli, or 1/2 cup of carrots, 1/2 cup of turnips and less sodium than 1/2 cup of beets. It also contains less sodium than 1/2 cup of most dried/fresh beans. I am not suggesting that anyone go crazy with the salt shaker. Leave it out if you want to. Your the cook.
  23. I have never heard of this but can see how it would work. Its hard to pinch something that is tight. The only problem I can see is with my thumbs. They don't tuck like I think they should but I'm going to practice and see if I can't find something to do with them to get them out of the way. One thing I will be doing is working on step up to an arm instead of the hand because I have arthritis that will only get worse. Balling my hand makes the skin tight on my arm so this should work nicely. Thanks
