  1. Depression definitely does not play fair. My partner has been suffering from depression for close to 4 years and refuses to see that is what it is. The past 2 years it has grown to include anxiety over traveling in the car, having friends over, spending time away from home or talking to anyone other than the kids outside of work. My partner rarely goes out except to go to work, a few local restaurants and the county fair. Going grocery shopping has been the major event for the past several years. That my partner has gone to the bird store with me has been a small miracle. For the past 4 years I travel and vacation alone or with my DS and have no friends left except those that live far away. I am hoping that our baby TAG will enrich both of our lives and maybe help to bring my partner back. If not then at least I won't be quite so lonely.
  2. DS used the "unaccepted" boing as a bridge from the floor to the cage door. She was playing with him on the floor, got spooked, made the mad dash for her cage and used it to climb back in without thinking. Now she uses it all the time.
  3. Gilberts behaviors so remind me of older foster children who are in the process of being adopted by their forever family. They often act out because of the overwhelming and often conflicting emotions that they just cannot handle. They are angry that they couldn't stay with their parent, blame themselves "if only I had (or hadn't) done", happy that they have a loving new family but guilty because they feel happy and love another mommy/daddy, and scared because they fear it could happen again. The way you describe Gilbert this fits him to a T. Pre and post adoptive children can cycle through these emotions for years and may have PTSD like episodes where they are drawn back to their pre and post adoptive behaviors forever. It is not a signal that you have or haven't done something. Gilbert has decided to accept you into his flock but there will be moments, or even long periods of time, where he will try and sabotage it because the other feelings will be almost more than he can take.
  4. That is awesome. WTG Gilbert and WTG Gilberts family.
  5. Thanks Maggie. If I'm preparing for fids only its no problem but I use the dehydrated beets for my self in many recipes. I guess this is one of those things I'll have to take a deep breath and try once and see how it goes. As much as I hate it dehydrated beets might be one of those "theirs" and "mine" things.
  6. I'll have to give it a try and see if the acv alters the taste any. I could probably do it after my long soak.
  7. I am sorry you are hurting Jeff.
  8. Nancy why don't you check with your friend to see if there are any resources he has for ordering food online and pass them along. Shops will know where they can ship to.
  9. I bet there are many things to do that are no cost. Take a walk in the historic or oldest sections of your city and take pictures of the oddities in the architecture, learn about what your city/town is known for or proud of, what are the regional foods? Around here it is festival season and every festival offers free entertainment of some kind. Call the chamber of commerce or grab one of those free papers and see whats going on. If you would like more personal activity volunteer to help with a few meals at a shelter or food panty. They can almost always use the help and are generally a friendly bunch.
  10. How are things this morning and did you manage to get any restful sleep last night?
  11. Do you have any natural wood branch type perches in her cage? You may wish to consider a table top play gym with low perches made of grape vine. Grape vine has various bumps and thicknesses which should allow her to slowly gain balance and confidence and it isn't slick like some of the other bird safe woods that play gyms are made of. I am not affiliated with this company but have purchased from them and will do so again. http://naturesbirdperchantoys.com/Home_Page.php
  12. Why do you soak twice in acv and not rinse after the second soak? I used to choose small beets, peel and slice them using the food processors thinnest setting, or use a mandolin slicer also on its thinnest setting, and soak the raw slices in cold water for about 6 hours changing the water often. Then I would dehydrate the slices and make "chips". These weren't completely dry and crunchy. The center was still a bit soft. I would store the chips in the freezer and use on kabobs or chopped in warm foods. Jay/Maggie is correct. The entire plant is good stuff for the whole family. The leaves are best when no larger than your hand. Larger than that and the leaves tend to get bitter.
  13. Hugs for you all. It sounds positively frightening.
  14. We are here to be your cheerleader, hold your hand, lend an ear or give you a kick in the rear. You know the tricks of breaking big problems down into manageable chunks so find your comfortable place and start to break it down. You can do it.
  15. I can't get this to translate but this site might be helpful http://www.parrot.ir/ and I did see this http://www.iranpod.com/iran-pet-shops.html
  16. Momo this is what I could find. Kaytee products are available in Iran by contacting Dubai, UAE Nova Pharma Trading LLC 210 Duesseldorf Business Point Al Barsha 1, Dubai, UAE Tel: 00 971 44356440 Fax: 00 971 44356441 Email: info@novapharma.com Website: http://www.novapharma.com Harrisons UNITED ARAB EMIRATES EUROVETS Dr Jonathan Hale BVSc(Pret) CertVR MZCVS MRCVS British Veterinary Center Abu Dhabi UAE drjonathan@britvet.ae http://www.britvet.com If you have no luck there you can try contacting the avian section of a zoo or university and ask them for assistance.
  17. Nancy I can check the customs rules and make a few telephone calls to see if its allowed but because it is a food product I don't think it can be done without export/import licenses.
  18. Have you considered video taping around the time that the screaming happens. You will get a different perspective on whats happening in the room which might give you some clues. Thank you for working so hard at this.
  19. Congratulations. I think this is the year of the boys.
  20. Baby likes laying on its back while looking around. Silly bird.
  21. The black one with the bone beak looks like a female Carnaby's Black Cockatoo. Palm Cockatoo. Caique Moluccan Cockatoo. Hyacinth Macaw. Scarlet Macaw. Imperial Amazon I think the one with the bone beak and yellow is a double yellow headed amazon. Rainbow Lorikeet CAG Male and female Eclectus. The red with green wings looks like a Red Shining Parrot. Black masked love bird. Hawk Head Ring Neck The little one to the left of the female Eclectus looks like a grass parakeet. Thats all I can get or guess at.
  22. If Momo responds when he is lower than you is probably because your body is positioned better. When Momo is not above your shoulder your hand is steadier, your more comfortable, not reaching and your confidence is felt by Momo through your own body language. He hasn't been with you long enough to know just how much he is loved, that you wouldn't hurt him and how far you would go to protect him. There is no magic time table for that either. Its love and time.
  23. I agree with all the posts. I think you'll just have to see what makes them happy and be willing and able to go along with it. Don't be suprised if they choose to stay together at first. That won't mean that they don't want their space. Just leave the cage doors open and let them explore at their own pace.
  24. I'm hoping to go on Friday after work since I can't on Saturday.
