  1. Miss Chickie is just wonderful . She is a joy in my life everyday. She's working on talking and has started to molt. She's the love of my life...besides my boyfriend, lol
  2. Please understand that the concern shouldn't be how the babies are sexed, but that she raises fully fledged, well socialized, and happy babies. If any parront doesn't want their baby surgically sexed she is more than happy to DNA test, if that's what you prefer. The vet that performs the surgery isn't your run of the mill avian vet either, he's a highly specialized avian vet that has made this procedure his entire focus. Almost all he does is travel around the U.S. performing this surgery. We are also very lucky to have a very highly respected avian vet in this area and he also is ok with the procedure. I understand and appreciate the concern, I ran into some of the same concerns when I posted that Chickie would be surgically sexed, but please also understand that just because it's not as common doesn't make it bad. My chickie came through it just fine. Another benefit is that it gives you one way to ID your bird, if anything were to happen, because he tattoos a small mark under one wing for a boy and the other for a girl. I have been on this forum long enough to know that this is a great group that want nothing more than the best care for greys, but please understand that our breeder does too. I just didn't want another member to have to defend themselves like I did about surgical sexing. Hopefully this helps.
  3. I have sat in that very same chair and held my Chickie when she was a baby! . Congrats!! Surgical sexing isn't as common, but if you have ANY concerns Georgia will address them. I was unsure at first, but I trust Georgia 100% and she's a total wealth of knowledge. The wait is intolerable, I know, but, when it's all done, you'll have a well socialized, well mannered, and fully fledged baby to bring home in about 4 months from now. Keep the pics coming!!
  4. Shivering is usually related to intense emotion. So, what it means depends on the other body language he's displaying. Like, my Chickie shivers when I get home at night because she is so excited to see me. She also shivers after a bath cause she's pissed...lol. Hope that helps . As far as being bitten, if you are afraid of it, he will pick up on that. Just accept that you will probably, but not everyone is, be bitten at some point. Also, he may favor your husband now, and change his favorite later, or he may love you for some things and your husband for others. Try not to worry about it too much and just be natural with your baby.
  5. So sorry for you loss.
  6. Oh that is a terrible clip your poor baby has. It does look like a molt to me, but I am for sure no expert. My Chickie is 8 months old, and she has lost tons of downy feathers and two large grey ones so far.
  7. Some of you may remember me asking for help a few months ago for my Greyhound, Kirby. We did everything we could, but we had to put her down on Friday. :'(. We ran out of options and her back legs just couldn't hold her anymore. I asked her to make it to her 14th birthday, April 15th, and she did, but she didn't have it in her to go much longer. . My vet came to the house to euthanize her and in the midst of my boyfriend's and my grief, Chickie sensed what was going on and flew to us. It was so sweet of her. When my boyfriend tried to put her back on her tree, she refused to step down. She wanted to stay on him. She is such a sweet little thing. Also, she never makes a sound when people are over, but the whole time she was making quiet little sad sounding peeps. I was shocked at how well she understood what was going on. She's been doing her best to cheer mom and dad up, but Kirby is greatly missed. We lost 2 dogs within 8 months of each other, so our house feels so empty sometimes.
  8. I definitely agree with what everyone has said so far. I am the current "favorite," but my boyfriend can handle Chickie as easily as I can because we were both an active part of her life from day 1 of putting our deposit down. We both visited her at the breeders and we both interact with her in our different and special ways. Even though she's currently a momma's girl, there are still things that my boyfriend can do, or shhe prefers him to do, that I can't. She just LOVES him to rub her chin, but mom not so much. I think the most important thing is that you both work with Piper from day 1, and she will love you both, for different reasons, just like Dave said.
  9. Woo hoo! Vey exciting!! You're getting your baby from the best!!!
  10. As always, beautiful pics. Thanks for sharing
  11. Oohh red merles are just gorgeous!! Our Duker was a black tri and he was such a handsome guy. He was the best little guy ever.
  12. He's adorable and i'm totally jealous!!!
  13. Roudybush medium pellets
  14. In the future, when she's ready, check with your local Lowe's and Home Depot because most actually allow animals inside-no one ever does that though cause they're busy shopping. I have taken Chickie to Lowe's twice so far and it's a pretty fun experience.
  15. Mini Aussies are just the BEST dogs. We lost ours last August and I miss him everyday. They are so smart and fiercely loyal. How exciting for your daughter to have a new companion in Brownie. Duke, our mini, was such an empahetic dog. He always knew exactly how you felt and acted accordingly. I also SWORE he was a mind reader because it seemed sometimes that he knew what I was about to do before I knew it!!! Congrats on the new family member
  16. Jayd and Talon, can you please explain more what you're talking about...alkalinity vs acidity causing cancer???? I've never heard that and interested to know.
  17. That's one of the funniest things I've ever heard!! Love it!
  18. So sorry to hear the bad news BUT so glad to hear the good news that it's treatable and you will be ok
  19. Chickie will ask for a scratch when she doesn't want to go to bed at night
  20. Congrats on the big day!! Only 2 more days my best advice is try to just be calm when you bring her home because you dont want to pass any anxiety or excitement you may have onto her. I thought I would just burst bringing my Chickie home, but before I went in and get her I calmed myself down and just went in and got her and then talked to her the whole way home. Just follow your instincts and you'll do fine
  21. Sometimes when I tell Chickie "no bite" I can see her stop, think about it for a second, and then chomp anyways or she just looks at me with a look that says" just so you know, I can bite if I want...i CHOSE not to." LOL.
  22. As Nilah would say,"No No No No Make it stop!! Lol
