Hi from Virginia new owner of a rescue CAG
Shelly Yokum replied to forkeeps's topic in Welcome & Introduction Room
Hello and welcome. In this situation, I would take him to the vet, and get a complete workup done. In this situation, maybe the new loving home with toys, attention and a proper diet might just might go a long way. -
Am I the only one that will spend New Year's Eve at home?:-(

I stay at home as well. I wouldn't have anyone to watch Austin if I did go out, but I feel if I left him for a good time, and he got hurt, how could I forgive myself'? -
Oh, I know that feeling well, the first time Roy let me pet him and let me hold and cuddle, was just a joyous day. Congrats for you.

Thank you all so very much. I am hopeful and maybe seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. I was asking God, to give me my life back, but looks as if he has something bigger, better and brighter for my future. I love you guy so much, thank you all for being my friends.

Ray, its easy, just copy and paste in both rooms.

I finally decided to stop procrastinating, and take down my tree, kind of ignoring the birds since I would be in and out the door. They were all just chatting among themselves. I decided to take a break and get the bird dishes cleaned and refilled. Prince does his usual Hello hello. Roy, does his mmmm is that good, wanna bite routine. Then Val looks right at me and says " I Love You". Well, I could have just melted. Prince will say Love you, and Roy will say I love. It wasn't the same as that sweet little voice. On a side note, I met a man last night that likes me, adores Austin, and is just crazy about birds. He has an extra house, that If we get evicted from here he will let me move in for as long as I need, absolutely rent free, no strings... Who knows what will happen..... He is really nice, really handsome, doesn't drink, holds a job. I am very hopeful at this point. I also want to wish you all a very Happy New Year.

With having some kind of parrot all my adult life, I have learned never never never start a routine. I never do the anything at the same time every day. What time I am up, I always let them out of their cages, clean all dishes, give fresh foods, seeds, and pellets and water. and change the paper in the bottom. We always have a one on one play time as well. Mine get pellets, seeds, and fresh veggies and fruit. I spray mine down everyday. Some people say a couple of times a week, but I do it everyday without cause. Spend as much time as possible with your grey, talk as much as u can. Welcome to the forum, and your never a pain when you only want the best for the new addition.

I also hope your having a great birthday. Maybe your fids will give you an extra mess today. LOL

I have bought stainless steal for my baking needs, and glass ware. I just didn't want to take a chance, or hurting my birdies.

this is so sad and depressing. I to hope that you can get this little guy up and going. I some how feel that the prev. owner knew of his problems and that is why he re-homed him. I love the name and the picture. Good luck to you both, and I will add him to my prayer list. I hope I can check in often to see how he is doing.

that is the sweetest. Happy hatch day for sure Corky. Get lots of treats and new toys.

If you have carpet, use the plastic strips, I have the hard wood Look a like floor, and I just line it with newspaper, One of mine likes to poop hanging on the side of the cage, so all his poop hits the floor, I put a box down in his favorite spot and it was cheap and it worked. They have seed catchers such as this, I never used one so I don't know if they work or not. To me just something else to clean. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bird-Cage-Seed-Guard-Seed-Catcher-Full-UNDER-CAGE-KHAKI-/200584320765?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2eb3c1d6fd

thank you barbara, I am glad that he could give this one a good home. It does bring a lot of questions to mind, but anyhow, I still think of that little baby outside and lost.

this has been heavy on my mind, was Murphy ever found? How is Paul?

I have to say I loved this thread. I have to agree. Prince, when I have him out he is the sweetest, loving, could never do wrong macaw. Put him in the cage leave for a minute, there goes the door right off the hinges. There goes the food doors to the floor, dumping whatever is in them. Sitting on the top of his cage eating my walls doing the happy dance and laughing and caring on. Val, she is truly my angel when I open her cage or go any where near it, she bows her head for a little rubbing. Then with a quick turn to my finger with an open beak. Then I get her to step up, and take her to the living room, she looks down the whole time, and poops right on my foot, then laughs and laughs like a child being tickled. Roy, well, he is Roy!!! tries to feed me every time I get near holds a foot up as to say come get me. lays over for a hug, then a bit. Never hard, just a tasting. Climbs to my shoulder, and lets out a scream. When I cringe he laughs and says bad bad bad. lol

Greys tend to take a little longer to warm up. If he isn't use to attention, then that might make it a little longer. Main key is take your time be patient. He has to learn to trust you. Sit by the cage and talk and read to him. Offer him bites of what your eating. Providing that its birdie friendly. Leave the cage open and let him come to you while your next to the cage. Patients is the key. Good luck

very precious, I agree looks like CAG to me too.

Most of you know what has happened to me this year. Well, so far no luck in my favor. I am only days away from the electric, phone, and internet being cut off. So I won't be able to read or respond. You people have been a God sent to me. I have truly enjoyed this site, and the people here are incredible. Hearing about your birds, and sharing about mine has been a learning experience. I have laughed and I have cried with the stories here. I know if you didn't see something from me for a while some of you would worry. I am ok, just don't know what to do. I have call everywhere, trying to find help. I get the same story everywhere I turn. We are all out of help for the year. Try back Jan 3,.... I want to say that I will miss you all very much, and I will be back when things get better. I hope you all have great holidays to come. I love you all Shelly, Austin, and fids. :(

Yes, I would. I give Val seeds for about a half hour before bedtime. Also give fresh veggies and maybe some fruit once or twice a week.

OMG, I would have been pulling my hair out. I don't think that birdie would have gotten out of her cage after breakfast.
