  1. PS: I remembered when Zak still does the nervous foot in his mouth thing!-when he is on the t-stand right next to my study room and he sees me in the room but cannot fly in because we have ropes with beads on it (how is it called?). He knows and sees I am putting his towels on my chair so he could come sit on it (and not chew on it or poop on it), ...and I always take him to be with me, but those few minutes he just cant bear! LoL He is nervous, anxious and he is an inch from falling from the perch, just to be a bit closer to the door. The beads are there precisely because of him- not to bother me when I am tutoring or something I need to do alone..for a change ;-)
  2. Looool! The pictures are perfect!:-) And way to go with pistachio!:-D Lol
  3. Are you spraying with regular water? Why are you spraying him twice a day?-like a bath? Maybe you could read threads about aloe vera juice and spray him with that, and if you want to bath him, little spraying on his back isn't enough. IMO he should be bathed 2-3 times a week. At these times he should be soaked (not just the back) and it shouldn't be before going to sleep because he needs time to dry himself. Room should be cosy warm, without drafts. My bird flies around the room till he is dry.
  4. But in this pictures, especially 2. and 3. she looks a bit scared. Was she restless during the ride? Isn't it to "drafty" for her on a bike?
  5. I just want to say few things.. There is nothing wrong in putting her foot in the mouth but the way your birdie is doing it, I recognize it as a nervousness and anxiousness because my Zak was behaving exactly like your bird does. Maybe you are pushing her too hard. I would say she doesn't want to be doing what she is doing. Zak doesn't do this behavior at all any more except he is very afraid and can't get away from the source that is scaring him. For example: the suitcase.. He is afraid of it but at the same time he knows someone is going away for more than a weekend and he is nervous, and he knows there is nothing he can do about it.. About the sunflower seed.. do try other things as treats but if it takes her too long to eat them (one day when you'll be training) you can clean the seed of its husk and cut it into little pieces and then offer one piece at the time as a reward. Some fids are slow eaters;-) And yes, it is normal to make a mess while eating. Especially if they are not that hungry. And I forgot to say: welcome! :-)
  6. Just a thought...- My Zak freezes (in strangest positions) if he is afraid of something (for example new toys) . Like, "If I don't move maybe I wont get noticed". Maybe it would be ok to learn your fid to play with toys outside the cage and then put them in. Maybe she is afraid of them?
  7. My mischief found a new super fun for himself. He hangs upside down from his booing, holding it with just one foot and with other one he holds his plastic screw and bolt. Everything would be fine if he just wouldn't think it is more important to swing and hold a bolt than to hang on to the rope. He already fell on his back!!!! once because he let go of the rope and not the screw and the bolt when he noticed he was slipping.. :-S And I don't know what to do about it.. He was fine..this time.. But what about next time?
  8. Hm... Well, some metals are really toxic to our parrots, and they accumulate in their body. So, if they just play with those metals (they don't need to swallow them) residues of that metal ends up in them. So why wouldn't be the same with ink? Also, the glue which is used to attach first paper on a role for paper towels or the ones for bathroom is also toxic. It doesn't matter if they swallow the pieces while they play. A bit transfers to them anyway you wrap your head around it. So, IMO it would be wise to check, double check and triple check whether (colored) ink is safe for your bird. Better safe than sorry...
  9. Thanks for sharing the update. Great progress! :-) Never say never!:-D My Zak was afraid of his own shadow for nearly 8 years and he wouldn't cuddle much. Then one day, something in me changed, I changed, my relationship toward him changed and now he cuddles a lot (still a bit cautious sometimes), even let us hug him. I pet him on his back and wings whenever I want, kiss him pretty much anywhere whenever I want, and a lot more..and, of course, he enjoys it! We share a lot more trust than we did before. I understand him much better so I respect his mods, wishes, problems more. If I see he doesn't want me to touch him or something, I back off. Don't give up on kissing and cuddling just yet. I now know, everything is possible! :-)
  10. Looooooooooooooooool! Hope your wife doesn't read this forum or you might be in a lot of trouble! ;-D
  11. Excellent! Cant wait to hear more about Romeo, his new life in your family and, of course, to see pictures!!!:-)
  12. I am all for flighted birds!:-) Read this http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?190818-Imping-Feathers-Clipped-wings-restored-through. It will stress out the importance of having wings. After that, please read everything about harness. That way you can take your bird outside and not loose him. A word of caution. Introducing a harness is a serious business as living with the flighted bird. You may need to make your home parrot proof as you would for your kids. And if/when you take your gorgeous birdie outside, make sure to know are there any kind of predators around where you live so they wouldn't endanger or kill your bird. Hawks, cats,.... I think I read somewhere on this forum that bird with clipped wings can also fly away. So it is no 100% guarantee. She could get spooked, feel threatened or anything else, and leap somewhere, or in that moment, wind could take her a bit further than it normally would.. It could mean a life or death situation so don't be naive (not that I think you are...just cant find another word ;-) )
  13. Is your birdie on this play area for all of this 10 hours because 10 hours IMO is way too much. Sherrie, try at http://www.windycityparrot.com. They have 15% discount for first time buyers and for ones that haven't bought since they changed the site. I buy lamps/bulbs from UK but many other things from windycity.
  14. Uh, every time a look at your avatar, it is more adorable than the last time! I just fell in love with that picture! :-) Perfect little baby Grey!
  15. I read somewhere that sand perches do more harm than good and it was written by a vet but can't find that article any more:-( Just keep an eye on it. And IMO it would be advisable to wipe his feet clean of the poop.
  16. Well, maybe that's just the point! She doesn't push him in any direction. As already mentioned, he probably doesn't feel that anxiousness to bond with him around her. Obviously your wifes easygoing approach is working like a charm. I would suggest all the things already mentioned by other members. Talk to him, offer him treats, try to train him, play with him, but most important thing, especially now at the beginning, relax and learn to read his body language. You have your whole lives to make your relationship work! ;-) Good luck and welcome! :-)
  17. It is a very beautiful picture you have as your avatar!:-) About perches.. Have no idea what kind is perch made of Sand Paper but I encourage other members to comment on that because it is very important that you pay attention to your birdies foot. There shouldn't be any changes on the skin, blisters, red skin/irritations-sorry I don't know how to say exactly what I mean because my English is not that good. Maybe someone will correct me/say it better than me. I have safety pumice perch large which has this pumice stone only on the sides where his talons go when he stands on it, so the skin on the foot doesn't get irritated.
  18. Hi and welcome! :-) Very pretty baby Grey:-) Please read very carefully posts about weaning. Looking forward on seeing more pictures. How old are your kids? Check out the posts about children growing with your CAG, precaution measures..and most important, enjoy your new baby!:-) Do you already have an avian vet for your birds?
  19. I'm so excited as though I'm going to get myself a new beautiful birdie, and travel... and get to meet all of you! :-D My thoughts are with you both Robin and Jessica. So very excited about pictures, maybe a video clip? :-D Have a safe trip down Robin!
  20. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! Bravo for you and the birdie!:-D Really cool!;-) BTW, what are "jacks"? (and I do see the picture but still don't know what it is..)
  21. My last parrot liked one song so much that he flipped every time he heard it!:-) He danced to it and made some sounds of his own to acompany the song. He was hilarious at those times!:-) I miss him..
  22. Some pictures..?! Lol That is a lot of pictures...pictures of a beautiful birdies :-) It is nice to see so many pictures :-)
  23. Khm... I don't know what nutriberries are.. I found something as a shoping result but it is in a bag so I still don't know.. That is a solid mixture of some sort, right? So you all use them as treats? Are they used for something else?
