Thanks, Dee... Your continuing support and how well Gilbert did with his travels encouraged me to allow Roscoe to transition without much stress at all.
-
Well... It's been a month since I've posted and he still never ceases to amaze me. I spent several wks. attemping to acclamate him to his travel cage so he could stay with my daughter while we vacationed in FL. She gave him lots of TLC. He's back home and back to his sweet self with nightly cuddles )) He's camera shy but quickly warmed up to his "babysitter" !! She caught him in his Morning Monolog..... OOPS!!! Guess I don't know how to ad a video.. I'm going to my profile & try to upload there.

THANK YOU !!! sooo very much, Nancy !!! Until just a few short weeks ago, the two yrs. I've had him, I would NEVER NEVER believed he would stop biting or know how to show affection !!! I am proud --- mostly of Roscoe for being my little "snuggle-bug". I treasure & love him dearly
-
Proof positive !!!! Two yrs. ago my 10 yr. old screaming, biting etc. rehomed CAG who had never been shown love has become my lovebug... With ever so much perseverance & patience he walks across the room to me & lays his head on me, closes his eyes, & stands for at least 2 hrs. EVERY night for neck scritches, head pets, lovingly stroking the sides of his face when he nuzzles & makes kissy sounds !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm lovin' every minute !!!
-
Not necessarily so.... Murphy is still in our hearts & prayers. Go to: areTOP.com & add pics to the signature & you'll have both !!!!

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE That Missy & Ella-Rose are bonding !!!

Haven't been on in a while..... All is well with my fids. HAPPY HATCHDAY TO BAMBAM Sterling Gris !!!!!!!!!!!!!! My how life has changed since he came into your life, Janet !!
-
Thanks for your update on Missy, Paul... Hang in there. I know the bites are as much mentally challenging as painfully awakening. In just the past few months, my rehome, Roscoe, has gone from daily to no bites!! My ultimate stategy has been no fear & fingers near his mouth with an open invitation!! He actually has his moments he enjoys "mouthing" and exploring ... My kissy sounds & saying "gentle" have calmed him enough to finally trust my touch!!!
-
Karen: Haven't been online too much lately but just found your thread and beautiful pics of Marcus's adventure!!! Way to go - Ross, Karen & Marcus WOW!!! I still haven't "asked" Roscoe to get in his travel cage yet. He walks over the top & down the side, but won't go in... I put a small SS bowl w/ some peanuts in it but he still hasn't gone in, but he is curious. I just want his first time to be pleasant & not a trama

FINALLY !!!! Success.... I'm so happy for you

Congrats!!!! Just wait until you hear two babies crying..... One will be Charlie imitating LOL LOL LOL
-
Thank you so much, Dee... Yes, it did have a positive outcome & the agony of the week was I missed him so terribly!!! (oh & hubby too LOL) Each day I talked to Charlie he assured me that he & Roscoe were doing well. I know your right, it was grey time... cause Roscoe picked up like everything was yesterday. It made me feel better about being away. You also have an excellent idea about a couple of visits before April. I have noticed that when my daughter visits Roscoe gets close to the bars & turns his head like he wants her to pet him... Her voice sounds alot like mine so I think he likes her. I'll let you know how the next phase works

Yes, Welcome... You will find just abt. any info you need here & if not, ASK -- There are so many, many knowledgeable people & we brainstorm until we find the answer. I've had a rehome & it's taken almost 2 years to even begin to gain his trust. I see you found our Bird Rescue Haven page also. Just let us know

Missy had a conversation with my two year old daughter.

Paul... The minute I saw the thread w/ Missy's name I knew it had to be you !!! Your post sure put a big smile on my face Zoom is right to say Write it down.... I kept a diary of my two daughter's cute sayings & gave it to them on their wedding day along with their "something old" ... Both Ella-Rose & Missy are at a perfect age to begin all sorts of interesting conversations !! Make sure your listening in.. -
Don't have a Zon but it's so exciting to give a lost little life a happy forever home !!!

UPDATE..... I'm back from staying a wk with my grandsons in the next state... After much soul-searching and my hubby telling me he could handle Roscoe; I reluctantly decided NOT to force the travel cage issue and change his enviornment. After all the progress I've made I couldn't bring myself to upset my little buddy... He really did OK... Aside from the fact he spent the whole time in his cage... The cutest thing my husband told me on the phone was for the first 3 days he & Roscoe played tug-o-war with the food & water dishes!! I think he thought Charlie was taking it away from him and after all; they are HIS dishes. After that, he allowed him to remove, fill, and return the bowls without a lunge bite... Last night I let him out and everthing was as though I had never left!!! So snuggly, kissy, and really soaking up the scritches & neck rubs!! Whew !!! I was so worried for nothing. Now I really have to get him ready for the travel cage 'cause we have abt. 2 mo. before we leave for vaca. My daughter & family will be birdsitting both of them then. The whole big cage will be transported & Roscoe will be in his new travel cage in the car. Gabby is no problem, as she goes quite a bit & likes her travel cage. (This 1 wk. was kind of a test.... I can't even think abt. vaca because it will be the second time away from him & it will be for 3 weeks!!!)

Dave, LOL !!!!!!!! Your the best !!!

Just ask !!! Everyone is here to help you & maybe give you some good ideas

I "think" I remember when I first joined this forum some of your posts of Spencer.. (I would have to look back) It was right around the time I rescued Roscoe & I paid special attention because we were in the same situation.. So neat that we both have waited over 1 & a half years to again have our first scritches... I also get alot of sucker bites BUT most of mine come from displacement bites. You said your usually alone when he lets you touch him.. Roscoe "tolerates" my husband. As long as he (hubby) doesn't move, cough or talk when I'm petting -- I'm ok. I can see his knee-jerk reaction: lunge bites. It's not his fault... He's soooo skidish but wants me to pet him so I pay the price. Roscoe just stands next to me & puffs up big time when Charlie walks across the room. Also, Roscoe doesn't talk in front of hubby but when he goes out of the room -- Roscoe babbles on & on to me.. Hopefully, things will get better with time for both of us

Ray: Just went back & was reading a few threads... This one is too good to drop off & disappear !!! I'm glad it's a sticky but you are so on the money with your advice... I spent the first few months sitting outside Roscoe's cage talking, singing, whispering & just watching his body language.. He never put his head near the bars for me to touch him. I'm certain he had never had human contact after the breeder let him go. It breaks my heart to think of 10 years w/ no love!!! I opened the door after the first few days & he would come out & sit on top of it. Whenever I offered the back of my hand or arm -- he would bite & laugh or say "ooch". That was the beginning of our "games"... Indeed, pull up a stool, every day for as long as you have time, talk softly, eat a snack & your off on an adventure of a lifetime !!! -
It's the best feeling in the world !!! I was so excited my hand was shaking ..... Now, he asks for scritches, head petting & jaw massages EVERY NIGHT!!! He's still quite skidish but will close his eyes & just enjoy the moment. He seems to ask later in the evening when things calm down & it gets close to his bedtime.. What's really cute is I whisper to him while I'm petting & he will make little kissy sounds... He really understands & gets the connection !!! I don't think he has ever shown affection & each step along the way are like little puzzle pieces.

Awesome... I have a rehome & it took almost 2 yrs. to give that first scritch Buzz is adorable. It only gets better from here on out !!!

So precious !!! Can't wait to see more pics of Roxie

At first I covered half of the aquarium just so he could have the option of hiding or sleeping and feel security. I used paper towels to line the bottom & amazingly he pooped mostly in one corner... I used a "lizard hammock" in the corner that he liked to pull himself up into to sleep.. You can find all sorts of bendy vines & toys with suction cups for placement for reps like bearded dragons.. As he got better I put the screen cover on & hung toys down so he could play I love tiels but my heart still skips a beat and start pounding everytime my "Gabby" has a night fright. I always leave a nightlight on for my fids but the frights are just indictative of the breed. She knows I will rescue her & sit & cuddle her until she calms... I'm sorry you were gone when Stevie had the fright & blood feather Please keep brainstorming & asking for ideas !! This forum is excellent for helping out & maybe someone can come up w/an answer..

It breaks my heart to read about her. My first cockatiel had a broken leg & was kept exclusively in a 20 gal. aquarium !!! They can still look out & see the world but are safe from harm... the only perch he had was a small triangular swing that was acrylic.. It had one step up, a top perch & one step down. It was on rockers & he loved it. I hung some little bells on it too. For night-night cuddling, the little fur cuddle-ups worked fine to just stand up against flat & bury their little face... Good luck with your baby...
