This is a description that I found: "The CAG and TAG as a baby parrots will have dark grey to black eyes up until they are roughly 6 months of age when their eye color starts to lighten. By the time they reach a year, their eyes become a pale grey color. At about 1.5 to 2 yrs their eyes will turn a pale straw color. And lastly at about 3-4 years of age, they will have a light yellow iris. This is one way to be able to determine an estimate of how old a baby is when visiting bird stores. Grey's usually reach maturity at about 4-5 years of age."

I'm far from an expert but if I knew right now that this bird was soon to be my bird, I would want him out of that toxic environment as soon as possible. It is good in the beginning to give a rehomed bird some space anyway. I think he will be happier alone in his cage in your home than living with people who are not good for him. Just my two cents.

I hope the day comes that I can trust my dogs with Neo. Right now they go ballistic at flapping wings and act like they want to eat him. (The black lab does anyway. The little mix girl just stands there and waits to see if she is supposed to be doing something.) I'm trying to allow them in the same room but it stresses me out because I just don't feel like I can trust the dogs.

You'll need to get the constitution changed. He won't be old enough to run for president in 2012. (I think he may already be president of the "hammco" household though!)

That's what I get from Neo as well when I come up to him on his playstand. It's usually after he has flapped his wings to let me know that he wants a companion.

I have three cement perches in the cage. One is back in the corner and that is his chosen sleeping perch. The other two are by hanging toys so he isn't just perching on it but is actually moving around on those two. So far it seems to be helping. My arms are not all scratched up any more.
