Okay, this has been a problem for a little while, but it's starting to worry us. Sully has always been a rather.. clutzy bird, and as a result, many of his feathers on his tail are bent or broken(and hanging on by a thread). He doesn't preen very often, on any part of his body, and I'm worried that eventually his tail will be completely gone. He has 3 broken feathers on his tail now, and Probably 6 or 7 left total. It's really upsetting because I feel like there is nothing I can do for him Here's a picture of his tail, and also his cage. I'm wondering if I have stuff too close together or what... He falls off his boing A LOT, and when he lands on the floor, his tail gets stick under him and he bends his feathers that way too Any ideas? Also, any ideas on how to get him to preen more? Even when I give him his shower, he just dries, he will not preen... It's strange because I know greys are usually very picky about their feathers. Thank you Sully's Back: And please don't mind the empty bowls! I took this before breakfast this morning (which is why he looks so confused as to why his bowls are STILL empty lol.

So, Sully and I are sitting here watching Wall.e, waiting for my husband to come home from work. I don't know how many of you have actually seen it, but when Wall.e and Eva start talking to each other, with their adorable little robot talk, Sully finds it HILARIOUS. He chuckles and fluffs his feather out and mimicks them speaking!!! Craziest thing I have ever seen! He goes Wall.e?? EVA!!!!!!! Whoareyou? So cute

I've been wanting to see this movie since I first saw the trailer during the super bowl!!!! I LOVE that they finally made a movie all about parrots

Sully LOVES Franks hotsauce on his eggs, frenchfries, anything I put it on, he'll eat it. Sometimes I sprinkle a little on his leafy greens that he doesn't really like, and he eats them with no problem! It's a great way to get them to eat foods they should be eating, but don't like

I read an article in Bird Talk today that suggested reading to your bird. I've never thought about it before, but I think my Sully would love it. I'm going to read him a short article tomorrow morning and see what he does. I think it would do nothing but benefit, and even if they aren't interested in us reading to them, I bet they will love the extra attention

Thank you I don't solder my rings, so those aren't soldered.

Anyone have a fun idea for a birthday "cake"? I'm hoping to make him a little cake for his birthday (just for pictures sake, lol) and I was hoping to find something not loaded with sugar and unhealthy-ness

My Sully-man is a whole year old today!!!! We sang happy birthday to him this morning and he whistled the whole time, lol. He seems to know today is his special day because he hasn't stopped chatting all day It's absolutely amazing how much he has changed our lives, and I can't imagine how quiet our house was before he came to us This year has flown by so fast, I cannot believe he's already a year old! (and just so everyone knows, I'm running a special on my website until the 21st of April in honor of Sully's birthday- receive a free toy with any website purchase, just mention "birthday!" at checkout)

Pet Health Insurance-- Anyone find one for birds?
JDS5607 replied to JDS5607's topic in The GREY Lounge
Thanks Judy That's the only one I have found so far... that's actually whome I have my current insurance with. They only cover up to $181 in routine services. While that is a little help, I'm hoping to find a little more. I'm going to gather some info from the company and find out exactly what is covered and what isn't. -
We just had a horrible scare with one of our cats. His vet bills are SO HIGH, and it got me thinking about Pet insurance for all of my animals. My cats are covered, but does anyone know of a company that provides Bird health insurance?

Wow! Thanks for the info and opinions! Sully is still cuddly, and really sweet... just not like he was when he was a baby. However, Greys do grow up Another reason for wanting another grey is just the fact that they are so amazing, loving & loyal. We've had little birds, but their personalities have nothing on Sully's I wouldn't expect two grey's to be best of friends, I am more worried about Sully feeling replaced or jealous of the new grey. He has only bitten me twice, and both times was because I had another bird on my shoulder. I expect that we will have to wait a few years to get another grey, simply for lack of space and perhaps waiting until Sully grows a little older, and we can really see what his needs are. If he grows to be a very independent bird, I would love to be able to get another one. However, if he stays the way he is now, it may be best not to get another grey. I promised my hubby when we brought Sully home, that our flock was complete... but you just CAN'T help wanting another one!
-
Well... I'll be honest, Sully does NOT like the little birds, for two reasons, I think. 1. They fly too fast, and all around him. 2. They get on his cage without his permission. :\ I've shown him videos of other greys, and he doesn't seem to care to much. He doesn't seem to make the connection... I would love to take him to a petstore to see how he reacts to other birds, but I don't want to take the chance of exposing him to other birds that haven't been vet checked. He did come from a breeder though, that had lots of large birds, and he had two siblings, you think he would remember?

Hi everyone! First off, let me just say this is ONLY an idea (as I know how excited everyone gets when a new grey will be coming into the forums haha).... I've been THINKING about POSSIBLY, PERHAPS mentioning the idea of adding a second grey to our flock to my husband. As Sully is getting older, and really talking and doing tricks and such, I'm really missing his baby days. I miss him cuddling me, and not being able to stay awake more than a few hours before passing out wherever he is. In addition, I feel Sully may enjoy having another grey around that would match his intelligence level (because Romeo and Chicken can't talk and Joe is just plain mean to Sully-man) that he could play with and "talk" to. I guess my question is, I know some of you have two greys. Do you recommend having two? I'll be honest, Sully outsmarts me sometimes, so I'm a little concerned about being ganged up on (LOL- I think.)... And I know it's selfish on my part to get another grey, in part, because I want another baby around that will grow up too... but I also want him as a companion to Sully, as he LOVES talking to himself in the mirror and going "Boop boop?!?! Boop? No Boop." ( I think that's how he says poop.

Yep I really hope your babies enjoy them! Let me know what they think, okay? I love hearing feedback!!!

Those wiffle balls are so much fun! Sully loves them, and apparently it's a huge hit with most birds, I sell a ton of them! Something else that's fun is to stuff different noodle shapes in there. I have video on youtube of Sully playing with one with plastic noodles in them! http://www.youtube.com/RSSJDS5607#p/a/u/0/Z-2e14X6VKY

Shelly- They should be there soon! I sent them out yesterday!!! I really hope you enjoy them Thanks so much

Sully knows somethings off.. and I think he's a little sad!!
JDS5607 replied to JDS5607's topic in The GREY Lounge
Thanks everyone He's seemed to adjust well over the past few days. He still beatboxes, but does his own little dance now instead of listening for her everytime... When he wonders into her room, we tell him "Zoe lives with Dwain now!" I'm hoping that is better than saying she went "bye bye"... because that's what we say to him when we leave the house, and I didn't want him to think she was coming back, like we do. Their intelligence surprises me, still. -
Can I suggest to cover one-half of each cage? I think that would give them the oppertunity to hide when they get spooked, or if they get sleepy, but also give them the chance to peek out and see what's going on... and possibly, also explaining to them what's going on... so after a few times, they will understand, such as: "Let's go!" When you start the car & buckle your seatbelt "Almost there" when you're getting ready to stop somewhere and maybe when you get to the hotels, say "Just a little while" or something of the sort... Just kind of clue them in to what's going on. Sometimes just your voice sounding confident and calm will help too Good luck, and a safe trip!

awww Your stories are touching I do believe Sully is missing her. Even though they lived in separate rooms, He mimicks her call, and notices the absence of a call back. I think I will limit the visits from Zoe Ann except when my parents go on vacation (which isn't too often)... I went to visit with my parents day before yesterday, and she was quite content, and didn't even want to come to me!!! Lol, she flew to my dad and stuck with him, chit chatting to me, but not wanting to leave him. It made me a little sad, but I know she is so much happier and better there. She only got a couple hours a day out at my home, but my dad lets her come and go as she pleases during the day, and since he is retired and home all day, she is out for 12 hours plus. It's a great sight Oh- and he's SET on building her a HUGE play gym, that will take over the majority of the space in my old room -
I love it! haha, He's all of a sudden saying random things! I thought I heard him say "very good boy" this morning.. but it kind of sounded like "Romeo" soooo I don't know
-
t0rn1616 I hope it's okay to share it

I've been busy busy making toys I sell them on eBay, and it's amazing how many parrot owners message me asking for advice- so I send everyone here Hope you like them! I test them all out on Sully, lol. He's very picky
-
LMayes, I think I would too, lol. Sully has really started to talk A LOT! Lol, day before yesterday he started say "Romeo" (Our PF lovie's name) and this morning he said "Whattareyoudoin?" (and yes, just like that lol) It's amazing how much he's learned in the past few weeks. He also dances when he beatboxes now, moving side to side He won't let me capture it on video yet though
