  1. With your husband, she may just be "choosing you". I have read that some greys don't want anything to do with anyone else in the house, unless it is their idea. Sully really really chooses me, all the time, because I'm home most... but there are times where he waddles over (bc his wings are clipped) to my husbad and wants to be with him. Very rarely, though, does he leave me to spend time with him. It's bittersweet. As much as I love sully, sometimes I wish he would jut go cuddle with my husband so they could bond more... but once your bird chooses, that's who he chooses. As long as Yoshi isn't chasing after your husband, trying to bite, I don't think it's anything to be concerned over. It just seems as if Yoshi doesn't want anything to do with him, unless it's her idea. BUT- as far as her being scared of him... did he ever accidently make a loud noise that spooked her? Like dropping a pan on the floor or something like that? If so, she may associate him with that loud noise. Just a thought
  2. The salt definately takes a little bit to get the cycle to break... and you may have more than you realize... They often will be more active at night. Just keep trying!
  3. I stay at home all day while I work online... Sully gets an hour or two out in the morning, then goes back into his cage for a few hours, comes out a couple hours, and goes back in a few hours, ending the day by getting an hour or so with us while we're reading or whatever... 6.5 hours isn't a long day for a grey to be in his or her cage, but something to think about... As your children get older, there will be parties, games, PTA meetings, homework, violin lessons and other things to take away time from your Grey. Many greys can handle that, but because greys can live SO long, you really have to think about the distant future, just as much as right now As long as those 6.5 hour days don't turn into 16.5 hour days, I don't see a busy family life being a problem... just remember to include the grey
  4. Sully has some purple-y bluish tint to his feathers too... I think each grey has a different "blueness" to them. Either way, what a beauty!
  5. Glad Kopi is doing soooo well!
  6. Cons- Their poops will become a common sight in your house, and ya better be prepared to chase after them to get them cleaned before they dry! Pros... well, everything else
  7. GREAT! I'll try it! Thank you sooooo much!
  8. HAHAHAHAH!!! I think that's exactly how Sully would react to me. He is currently fighting with my husband over the honey dipper we bought him, and attempting to hide it under the couch...
  9. Lol, no reply as of yet. We'll see how it goes tomorrow morning!
  10. HEE HEE Thanks everyone! Jingles- He's right by the patio door, on the wall facing the east... so he gets sun FIRST! lol, we've tried covering him... but I think he's afraid of the dark? He sleeps with a nightlight on in his room... and when I forget to turn it on, he honks til I remember. And his cage is too big for any other room Lol, we'll deal with it. I'm hoping maybe as he gets older and his vocab expands, he'll start talking, instead of screaming like Tarzan! But, if not... who needs sleep?
  11. Dear Sully, Mommy and Daddy love you very very very much. We love to clean up after you, smoosh up bananas and hide them in your peanutbutter and buy the best of the best veggies so you're healthy. We love taking an hour out of every day to clean your cage, give you a shower (while becoming soaked ourselves) and check out all your toys to make sure they are safe. We love attempting to calm you down during a temper tantrum, fighting with you to get back earrings you have snatched from our ears while we weren't paying attention, and stepping in birdie poo at 3 am when we come out to get a drink in the middle of the night. We love separating you from the tail of poor Gizmo...and running after you when you are attempting to steal the cash that was sitting on the counter, and soda caps I am constantly dropping on the floor. We really enjoy watching you scream in delight at the twirly toy in your cage, and love making you the same toy over and over and over again because you broke the last one. But most of all, we LOVE hearing you honk, whistle, squeal, scream, giggle, chatter, laugh and tweet. With that being said... can I PLEAAAAAAAAAAASE sleep past sunrise?? Like I said, I LOVE to hear you trying to learn to talk... but Mommy is very very tired, and we stay up late at night playing and talking so you can sleep all the way through the night! But remember... after you go to sleep, Mommy still has to clean up the fifty million toys we played with All of your brothers and sisters have mastered keeping quiet past about 7 am... I would love an extra half hour of sleep!!! Please consider? Love, A very tired Mommy.
  12. So glad you've never had these problems I've always been terrified to use the collars on mine... glad they work for ya!
  13. Reggie, please be careful with those collars, and make sure you check it daily for anything unusual!! We had a neighbor who's cat had a flea collar that caused quite a bit of harm. When the cat would clean himself, he would go over the collar with his tounge, and ended up getting burns on his tongue, and an allergic reaction to the skin on the neck. The hair fell out and the powder on the collar ended up eating part of the skin away. This all happened rather quickly too! He recovered, but is still missing hair around his neck
  14. YAYYYY! So glad to hear he is being naughty Bet you never thought you would be happy to see him not listening, causing a ruckus, and pinching Have a good day!
  15. Perhaps I'll get Sully a BIG bell. I've seen them on Ebay, the ones that look like wind chime bells. They are supposed to be the safest and most indestructable bells available... yeah. We'll see She- I have seen that box! I thought that it may be easy to break... How does Charlie do with them? Has he gone through many? Thank you Coral Sully only plays with certain toys in his cage. One that I made (that makes me feel good ) and one made of those baby links... Now that I think about it, perhaps he doesn't have enough... he only has those two and a couple others that he's never really found interesting. I'll switch them out for some new ones today
  16. Nope, no mold... it was brown, full of milk and all. I say it was bitter.. it just wasn't sweet like shaved coconut in the bag, lol. When I talked with my mother about the taste of it, she agreed, so perhaps bitter isn't the right word? But, I did pull off the thin shell underneath, and it was fine... Most coconuts I have had in the past tasted the same... I love coconut everything... except raw coconut! BUT- I gave sully another piece of it this morning and he liked it a lot. Yesterday he may have just been full from his chickpeas
  17. I gave him a little piece and he wasn't fond of the bitterness.. as I am not either BUT he looooves the shell- so hey, for a buck, I got Sully entertainment for a few minutes. Lol
  18. fresh coconuts are good for greys, right?
  19. LOL!! Thanks for the update So glad to hear Kopi is speaking today!
  20. I've been making toys for sometime now, but it's mostly for my conures and lovies... because a lot of them contain plastics which just do not hold up very long in Sully's cage.. SO, i FINALLY broke down and bought a 25 lb case of random wood shapes and pieces so I could make a whole bunch of Sully toys. I'm really hoping he likes them because he hasn't really been exposed to a lot of wood yet ( i know, i know... bad me.. but up until a couple of months ago- he wasn't playing with any toys at all! probably because I had him out all the time : / ) Anyway.. we'll see how it goes I found a few sites that have ideas for making toys and I'll probably copy them til I see what he likes BTW Dan- Good idea about the leather! I may go and tie a whole buncha knots for Sully!
  21. OH!!! What an adorable little girl! She looks like she is settling right in! How grey't! Enjoy her! She certainly seems like she will be a treasure to have!
  22. Well the first day without Mr. Bunny didn't go so well! Remind me to keep 10 on hand JUST IN CASE! Lol. He has destroyed many toys, but he seems to feel personally responsible for Mr. Bunny's demise. He's carrying around that ear still. :sigh: it's kind of funny though Sully also has a favorite foot toy. It's 5 blocks of wood on a leather string. I too keep it out of the cage so when I need to distract him while he's out, I can give it to him, and he becomes a busy bee trying to untie the knot
  23. I left the salt on the carpet all day, vacuumed it up when I got home from work, and put more down IMMEDIATELY. I did this for about a week, then I would just sprinkle salt (lightly) at night, and vacuum it when I got up in the morning. It really worked wonders after a few days!!! It may not take as long for you- I mean we had it BAAAAD I vacuumed so much bc i couldn't stand the thought of dead fleas..yuck. Hope this is working for you! It's the most inexpensive way to do it. It's a pain, but it's better than being bit!
  24. Good morning everyone! Well, it finally happened.. *whispers* Sully broke Mr. Bunny. Mr. Bunny was Sully's yellow plastic bunny...thing. He is devistated. He is carrying around his little ear... I have ordered 4 new Mr. Bunny's.. two in yellow, and one in red and one in green. Let's hope He is accepting Does anyone elses grey have a favorite toy? I thought it would be fun to share This is Sullivan with Mr. Bunny when we first recieved Mr. Bunny in the mail.
