  1. He falls so much because he gets going so fast in his cage jumping from toy to toy- he falls mostly in his cage. He really doesn't just fall- as much as it is slipping.. His wings are clipped- but he never really falls outside of his cage. I got the chance to check out his tail yesterday... He is missing a lot of tail feather. He only has about 6 now
  2. aww LOL Yesterday Sully was laughing with Oprah...
  3. It's so hard to watch him crash to the ground... I'm pretty sure I'm more upset than he is. With our lovebirds, we keep them lightly clipped. They can still fly 20-30 feet before they glide to the ground, and their flight feathers grow in every few months. I'm getting pretty impatient wait for poor Sully's to grow in. We keep the lovebirds' wings clipped because if they are both out at the same time, they will fly after each other and fight in the air So, we keep them clipped so that if they both happen to be out at the same time, we have time to get one or the other back in their cage (as they are at two different sides of the house)... Sully is different. He needs to fly, and he seems very upset when he sees the other birds flying and he can't. Absolutely heartbreaking I will definitely try the exercises y'all suggested, and hopefully he will build some strength so when his feathers FINALLY come in- he'll be ready to go! Thanks everyone!
  4. We've had Sully in a large cage since we got him at three months, and he did well, however I would suggest lining the bottom of the cage in blankets for the first few weeks if your guy is going to be young. It helps cushion the clumsy falls I agree with Shelly though... if you can get a smaller cage for him to live in for atleast the first few months, that's always better than putting him in a large cage.
  5. With petco, watch the paint quality... everytime I go in there, I check out their cages and they have chips in them... Of course- they could also be because everyone picks at them but... better to be safe than sorry. The size is okay, bigger is always better, of course. I've always bought as big as could be afforded (financially and space wise in your house)!
  6. Thanks Jayd, We have thick carpet and padding, and he rarely attempts to fly, but when he does... ugh, it sends chills up my spine... Do you know of any exercises we could do to build his muscles? He really flaps his wings when he gets excited, but only for a few seconds.
  7. Evening, all! Well, as most of you know, Sully just passed his first birthday... his flight feathers still haven't grown in and I'm worried that they won't. I really want him to be fully fighted, but I'm also concerned he won't be able to fly because his wing muscles aren't built up enough. He's been clipped since he was three months old, and I hate that "thud" sound he makes when he hits the floor Anyway, should his wings be growing out yet?? And, should I not clip them, in hopes he will get the strength to fly, or is it "too late"?
  8. Beautiful!!! I've always wanted a cockatoo!!!
  9. We have a dometop for Sully, but I really wish we would have purchased one with a playtop... However- The dometop seems to give him some extra room. Ebay has TONS of really cool cages! Hope you find a good one
  10. Haha! I did that for awhile, but it wasn't very cute when friends came over! and thank you
  11. I got tired of cleaning the poop of my shirt. Lol
  12. Lol, They are very good with each other. My three cats stay away from Sully because he is a larger bird. Our youngest cat got too close one time, and got a bite on the tail From that point on, everyone keeps their distance. lol Thanks for all the compliments! Sully is playing with his noodle ball as we speak!
  13. Yikes!! Those soft plastic things are usually no match for a grey. The best way I check my parts is if I can bend it with cheap pliers- Sully can do it too. PVC, Acrylic, and HARD plastics are usually best for greys... and it's kind of a testing method though- you kinda have to give them a toy and see what they do. It surprises me because a lot of people use rubber ducks on bird toys- and I know that sully would chew it up in TWO seconds, and i feel the soft plastic would be a danger. . . but, some greys won't chew their toys like that at all, it's more like they mouth them... to each his own, I guess!
  14. Jingles, My father is doing okay. He had radiation therapy, which took A LOT out of him, but he just completed it, and he's waiting to see if it killed the cancer cells or not- So, hopefully we'll get good news. However, the prognosis is pretty good. He's 63, so it's rough on his body- but thank goodness they caught it before it spread. I hope the same for your Uncle. If you need someone to talk to- please don't hesitate to message me! I wish I had someone to talk to when my father got sick! <3 prayers for your Uncle! <3
  15. LOL, Sully has never responded to a movie like this. I mean, every once in awhile he'll scream at Maury-- but that's about it as far as TV and movies!
  16. AH! I thought I remembered someone with the name "zoom" on here! haha Thank you
  17. We live in the sububrbs of Baltimore, and it's crazy how many people live here... I'm from Texas, so this kind of sucks, lol. We will be moving out to a house in the country in the next few years... and we can't wait. Ugh... It's so annoying. The worst part is that most of the people who do this, are afraid of birds... They call me the "bird lady" like it's an insult... which it's not- I'm proud of it! (I'm 24, so the only part that weirds me out is the "lady" part lol)... I only have four birds- two of which are small! lol people are goofy! Can't wait to get out to the country and build an enclosed outdoor area for the flock and let them outside to chit chat ALL DAY!!
  18. Dear People who live across the apartment complex who DON'T have birds, Please do not walk by my apartment and stare into my windows trying to figure out what is making that "annoying noise". I assure you, I am not harboring an alien in my apartment! My birds do not bother you, and I'm not sorry they "annoy" you when you're taking your daily stroll around my building. My neighbors adore my birds, and if they can listen to them all day (and call to ask what is wrong with them if they are quiet for a few hours)- You can certainly deal with it for the 15 seconds you can hear them while you're standing on the corner talking about your kids soccer games. I don't complain when your kids scream, unsupervised, in the streets at the bugs flying around- don't complain when my birds are learning to talk or tweeting themselves to sleep...And don't worry-- they aren't going to fly out of my windows, and land upon your freshly bleached, perfectly styled hair  Also, please do not ask if I can "shut them up" because, No- I can't... and even if I could, I wouldn't because I would rather listen to them all day than YOU. <3 Sorry for the rant- but it's better to share on here than actually say it to them, I suppose.
  19. How sweet!! My father was diagnosed with prostate cancer in June of last year, and Sully (only being 3 months old at the time) comforted me every night when I couldn't sleep. It is AMAZING how they feel the pain you do.. Be sure to keep reassuring him you're okay, or you will be okay, and let comfort you. Grey's are eager to be part of your flock, and every emotion you feel, they want to feel it with you We'll be praying your troubles go away soon Take care!
  20. LOL- Sully thinks it's the funniest thing when one of the cats runs into his cage.
  21. Welcome Casey!! Can't wait to see your babies!
  22. We offer our hand to our grey. However, he's really unsteady on one finger, so we always offer him atleast two. It helps him to balance better He generally won't step up to our arms, unless it has a sleeve on it, for something to grasp.
  23. I've never attempted to give Sully any peppers, except Bell peppers.... so I don't know how he would like them : \
  24. Thanks everyone!!! I have the balls on my website and will have it on eBay for anyone interested sully is generally not one to play on his back anymore, so we were surprised when he did this!!!
  25. I tell ya, the simplist things... This is Sully playing with a noodle ball on his back- he did this for over 20 minutes before I grabbed the camera!
