Thanks for all of the input. My wife and I both grew up in cat homes and miss them much. We have discussed it thoroughly and I am not sure if we are going to get one or not. But caution will be taken seriously.

My dog never really messes with the grey. He used to but the grey showed that he would not have it. I Now I can have the bird on my lap and pet the dog at the same time. I would assume that if I bring a cat into the world they would eventually be fine.
-
So I guess the cat is a no for me at this time. Lol

Does anyone on here have a cat and an african grey? If so how do they get along and how old was the cat when you got it? Which came first the cat for the bird and what breed is the cat

wow, thanks dave, you have pulled communication out of the box that so many people put it in. he does communicate to me, just not so much in english......... funny thing.... when i take him up for a shower i always shower first then he is allowed to take a shower. as soon as i get nude to get in the shower.... he does a "cat call" whistle ---don't tell him, but i think my bird is gay lol he also beeps like the microwave when it is time for dinner....

Hello! it has been about 6 months or so since i have been on here, finally got my internet back up and running. little history.......... Mojo is a TAG and is 16 months old. i took him in when he was 7 months old. He is fully flighted and more than social. his diet consists of pellets in the a.m. and veggie mix with quinua and koos koos in the p.m. at about 10 months my wife and i both heard him say "give me a kiss" on two different occassions. when he was just about 13 months old we had to give him up for 3 weeks or so to replace the carpeting in our home. after it was safe we brought him back home. i visited him daily and he seemed fine. When he came home, he had seemed to regress a bit. He was making chicklet sounds as though begging for food. that lasted a couple of months and very seldom do i notice him doing that anymore. he is still very cuddely loves to take showers with me, and makes alot of noise. All whistles.... this is where i am curious...... how long does it take before speech kicks in? is it norm for greys to say a few words at some point only to never speak again? at what age do i just forget about having a talkin parrot.... lol I don't want this to come across the wrong way....I LOVE MOJO! talk or no talk!!! can't stress that enough! I am just curious because i heard that they talk by one year.... but then i have also heard that it may take as long as two. how long did it take for your parrot to "never shut his trap"? lol

i use a monkey tail hung from the cieling. i bought a perch from fosters and smith but it would not stay put. so now it is attached to the sliding glass door down stairs. the beauty of a hanging perch is that i can move it whenever i want to.

update. i dont have internet connection as i used too, so i have not been online alot. however, i did not take it too personal that i had no response, i just figured that no one had experienced this before. Mojo stayed at the neighbors for about 3 weeks. i did visit him every day and he already knows the nieghbors rather well. he did fine! the place aired out and he has been home for a bit with no ill side effects. i was rather worried, but all is normal for him once agian!

Nevermind... I went to another forum to get my answer... They actually responded!

Hey all, i am getting new carpet and linolium in my place on tuesday. I do have a neighbor that is going to take mojo in for a bit while it airs out. my ? is this....How long do i need to air out my place? I do not have any option as to the carpet, my landlord ordered it and it is needed very badly. i am not going to put my mojo at risk, but i only have a couple of weeks for mojo at the neighbors. is this going to be enough time for it to be safe? do i have to even wait that long.....BTW..... He said his first words!! give me a kiss! followed up with a loud puckering sound! he is about 11 months old.
-
i just let mojo play in red food colouring lol, is a red grey really worth that much green?!?
-
i do miss the snakes. however, the bird is by far more effectionate, and a major part of the family. with that being said.... i am not going to do anything until i am completely positive there is no danger that i am putting Mojo in. i have waited far too long to get this wonderful freind of mine just to piss it away for the love of another creature. after all Mojo is now a part of the family.
-
lol my snakes were always my babies. and unfortionatley i had to part with all 8 of them.... that's right i said 8. i do miss them so very much, but unfortionatley my landlords of the past frowned upon them. now that we are settled into a home that will be our last rental (purchasing a home asap) i figured it was high time to get my big babies back. they would be kept in totally seperate areas of the home, and if i can do this with the most caution..... I am prepared to give it a try. i am aware of the hieghtened sences of both creatures, i just want to make sure that health wise it won't kill one or the other.
-
just wondering if any one on here happens to have both.. i am really wanting to get a Red tailed Boa (i used to collect them, and i miss having one around the house) but, i am a bit concerned that the scent of the bird may not go over well with a snake that could exceed 8-9 feet. any one have both?? if so what percautions have you taken to assure the safety of the bird, yourself, and the snake?

wow, the things you learn here. i started the thread because i do live in Colorado and i am in a rental that has no AC. so to cool off my home i was thinking of picking up a swamp cooler. it was not really for the bird, although the humidity will not be a bad thing. lol DAVE..... i have an air purifier that i run and it does have the option of shutting off the ionizer (it is always off). and as for humidity..... Mojo takes at least 2 full showers a week. He is really amazing during shower time. He even lets me soak him under his wings. do you think this is enough for the humidity? I ask because we have a very dry climate and with the amount of traffic in and out of my home, the humidifier does not really do all that much.
-
been awhile since i have posted here, but now i need an answer..... are swamp coolers bad for my grey? do they let of something in the air that is toxic?
-
Our place is so dusty that I am cleaning my purifier twice a DAY! However, MoJo isn't the cause of all the dust. The cause would be our very old carpet that the landlord hasn't replaced yet.
-
geyt point talon..... i never would have thought of a thief.

so i live in the beautiful state of Colorado, and as you may or may not know the climate out here is very dry. i was running a couple of humidifiers until i heard that they don't work hand in hand with air purifiers. i have to run the air purifier due to the high volume of dust in my rental. the carpet is old and this causes more dust than it is worth. i am looking to purchase a house in the next couple of years but in the mean time..... dust is what i must deal with. so my ? is this....... is this a fact. you can not have purifiers running with the humidifiers. i do shower Mojo on a regular basis. he enjoys the time we spend together in the a.m. getting ready for work. and he does get soaked while in a shower (3-4 x's per week). is this enough for him. I don't want to stop using the purifier as it is pulling alot of dust for me, and i can notice a difference in the air. should i use the humidifier in the same room. or will this ruin the purifier? HELP! thanks in advance.

i would def use the move your a** idea, that is sweet!
