I gotta tell you that i am sooo glad to see that my breeder did not clip his wings. mo-jo is so happy in his new home. very inquisitive, very confident, and making a bit more gobble gobbles than i had expected he would. I can only believe after hours af research that the fledging had alot to do with this amazing personality that i am able to witness. it is trueley amazing the way he sits outside of his cage, on the perch i have set up for him, and watches me so intentley while i stand there and speak to him. i repeat myself a couple of times and then stop speaking.... he then tilts his cure little head and tries to reply "gurble gurble" and then he tries to mimic. even at the age of only 5 months! i personally believe alot of this is due to his ability to fly. and fly he does. he is not the most graceful of birds as of yet. however, i can only imaginge that he will be. just thought i would share, thanks again for listening. b.t.w. i am a true believer that you are not to cut wings until at least two years of age, for reasons i have mentioned already. however, my wife and i spoke about it and we believe that if we can keep him with flight for that long.... what's another 79 years gonna hurt. lol

thanks all! my wife asked me if i needed to go into such detail.... and that i was ranting. you all make a good point. people at work could care less, and friends are like.... "o.k.?" know one gets how groovy this little guy is. lol btw, i am going to find out how to use you tube, and take videos of him. i am very excited!

One more question... We live in Colorado in a dry climate. I read somewhere that red palm oil will help his skin and feathers if you mix it with his food. Is this correct? If so, how much do I use and how often? Is red palm oil the right one to use? Thanks!

My question is this... Do the eggs need to be organic eggs, or can I just buy a dozen eggs at any grocery store?
-
well, today is day 2 and what an amazing creature the Lord has blessed us with! my wife and i spent over an hour talking about the enviroment, and making it bird safe. we went to whole foods and purchased all kinds of organic veggies for him. when we got home, we double checked everything to make it as safe as possible. and then...... opened the cage. wow! what a cool bird. we took lots of photos as you can see lol. and he has opened up to us quite niceley cuddle bone! my favorite training tool. this afternoon we took him out and let him fly from cage to us, and to monkey tail. put him back in cage after an hour or so (cause we had to leave). after we got home, we hung out and did not let him out for a couple of hours. then we decided to have a 45 minute training session. i took him out adn stood 10 feet from the wife. she called him (with cuddle bone in hand) and he flew to her. got the praise and a moment with the CB. then i called him back and did the same. anyway all went extremeley well and he is amazing. BTW... blah blah blah blah rant and rave blah some more.....lololol pics........ first one is by far my favorite!

you have heard it used time and time again.... "you are such a bird brain!" now seeing how smart my Mo-jo is, does this comment mean that i am a highly intelligent creature. lol

that is an amazing vid. and i love the toy. is that a dog leash? does it matter what kind of chain i use?

i have done plenty of research on the web, and spoke with many people on a good vet here in Colorado Springs. i have found one that is supposedley the best in the state of CO. but her number is not on the link you posted. i thought this would be a good place to post it since i noticed that there are a few board members that live here in the Springs. Rollercoaster Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Marty Kuhn 719-488-3018. just thought i would share. btw, this is a really great thread.... you got good karma lol.

JillyBeanz wrote: it took alot for me to do it. let him sleep that is. lol i did give him over 8 hours of sleep though. before i went upstairs to leave him be, he started to make all kinds of little noises calling to me as i was online. lol kinda cute really. today is going to be the day to open up the cage and let him come out and see his new living room. wish us luck. lol

yeah.... what he said. i too would love to hear the stories of the babes.
-
here he is.... and B.T.W. he is taking to the wife and I very well. i got to pet him through the cage, and he enjoyed it. as i said before i am going really slow. he is now very active in the cage and we are already both IN LOVE!
-
first off, the excitement that you see is my wife. lol she is soooo hot! he has been in his cage for about four hours now and he is starting to move around and investigate. i love it! he has eaten and seems to be settling in quite well. i am talking to him as he looks up at me. the wife and boy are also gingerley in all actions. i think i am in love lol.

dave, don't be so harsh. i did not plan on a bird flying to the top of a six foot cage, where it was near impossible to reach him (hence he did not step up). i would have left him there to enter his cage on his own, but i have a dog and couldn't. please don't get me wrong, i will not be taking him out of his cage until he is ready. i am just trying to hear other peoples experiences and try to guesstimate how long i may have until he comes around. fwi, at the breeders he did step up without a prob. and i am fully aware of his flight capability. he can fly quite well actually.

i have a couple of questions about acclimation time and acclimation behavior for a TAG. first off i would like to thank all of you for this amazing site.... IT KICKS BUTT! i purchased mojo a little over a few hours ago, we had an hour and a half road trip, got home and i put him in his cage. (after he flew to the top of it, lol) he was really not wanting to step up to me (go figure, i am a total stranger at this point), but i did try to make his cage intro as stress free as possible. since he has been in the cage, he has not done much. he appears to be in good health and all. but, i am wondering at what point i should try to open the cage up and let him start hanging out. i know that i am not to push the issue (nor will i), so i guess i am wanting to hear from all of you who have gone through the intoduction to a knew home, how long did it take to accept the new enviroment? was your bird quiet for awhile until comfortable? not to rant, i was just curious on the subject. anyway, i have the pics uploaded so here we go. besideds what good is a post without pics lol. ladies and gents meet MO-JO..... and this is his rediciulousley large mansion....

he is here! will post pics later on today

i have the next two days off of work and he will be in the cage for a bit, until he is ready to come out. how this will drive me crazy, cuz i know that i will want to hold him all day. but i am not going to be pushy. i could not sleep that long because i am toooo excited for the arrival of the newest member of the family! are there any brands of hepa's to dogde, and how much are they?
-
well, we were going to wait but the breeder informed us that he may no longer be breeding so we have spent the last four days rearranging the house and prepairing for his arrival. i was up until 1 a.m. cleaning and putting things away. my ? is this...... I live in CO and as you may or may not be aware the climate is dry here. do i need a humidifier, or purifier? i want mojo to have the best possible care that i can give him. any help in this matter is greatly appreciated. thankds

lol my wife was sitting there when i made the comment. she laughed as well. she is my only true love! got the cage and it is set up..... HOLY CRAP IT'S HUGE! i am very stoked about it!

never mind that cage! i found a deal and a half locally today! i found the biggest freaking brand new cage that i could for only 250 bucks. the cage is origanally 800 bucks on fosters and smith. i was at the pet store and ran into a gal who had this for a bird that she wound up not getting, so she said i could take it from her for only 250. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=5059+10346+5064+16503&pcatid=16503 shat a steal of a deal. my wife can live in this thing lol.

Due to the fact that I'm getting a Timneh, I figured 42" should be plenty of room. (36" being minimal) Am I incorrect in this assumption?

i am doing much research and searching for a cage. i do not want a cage that if left open my dog can get is big old noggin in and to my surprise this is not an easy thing to find. all most all of the cages that i have found are either too small or the doors are too large. this one meets my budget, and i want to make sure that i am not getting a lousy brand. i am assuming that the door is off the floor enough that my dog can't get into my soon to be babies new home. in looking for a cage, is there anything imparticular i should be avoiding and/or looking for? http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=5059+10346+13387&pcatid=13387

i am curious as to if it makes a difference in gender. as you may or may not know, i am awaiting a new baby arrival. anyone have experience with both genders? my wife was wondering about sexual aggresion issues etc.

i am already saving up on the toys. i think that i am going to build my own toys purchases and the such. i am going to search the threads for a create your own toys forum. -
first off i must say that i LOVE this forum! i found it via the you tube videos about tui (my heart goes out to you brother). my wife and i have been looking for a grey for a little while now, and we almost adopted an older grey. after much research on the www and this forum, i have decided to get a baby timneh. i am in CO, and out here they go for around 1600 bucks. i have called around the country and was planning on making a trip to Kansas to purchase a baby grey due to the amazing price dif. but last night i found a breeder in my state! 950 bucks for babies who are allowed to fly! i am soooo stoked. unfortionatley, we are getting new flooring soon so i will have to wait. he said it will be about 5-6 months before the next batch. i have spoken on the phone with the breeder for quite a while and he sounds like he knows what he is talking about. he hand feeds, and harness trains the greys. he and his brother are breeding them at home, and they breed twice a year. they handle them as there own. i can not tell you how relieved i am to have found a breeder who is not clipping the wings of MY soon to be baby! i am sure that i will be full of ?s for all of you more experienced in this matter. and yes i did introduce myself in the intro forum. i will continue to do much research (which will annoy my wife lol). now all i can do is hurry up and wait. b.t.w. i have some time to think on a name. if you all could help me come up with a kick a** name that is not too gender specific, that would be sweet! so far the wife and i think Slate is a cool name! sorry to rant, i just wanted to share my excitement!
