  1. Hows Loki eating? regurgitating? US

    jackson

Jackson may be feeling his oats (so to speak) and learning how to use his beak. When he goes to beak you, Move your arm away and turn your head and say "I don't like that" in a normal tone of voice. He also uses his beak when he is climbing etc and may use it to climb on your hand or arm? He still doesn't know his own strength so he has to learn how to use it. As far as cuddling and giving him kisses, he may not want to be touched at that time. Maybe you can try at another time like when you are sitting down with him quietly and he is getting calmed down and ready for bed. Spock is still trying to establish his independence and still bites sometimes (LOL) Hope this helps... Maggie
  3. Morning, we think it's very smart to go to vet now. Did the regurgitating after each meal start yesterday afternoon? Wish we could have been there. you've doing good. We figured we'd see a change one way or the other in 1 day, which was increased regurgitation. You not being paranoid, your doing what you know is right. Please keep us all in contact... XX Maggie and Jay
  4. Thanks Hon, you can't do any more than you are!!! Maggie and Jayd
  5. Yesterday morning, I was rushing around early getting ready for work while Jay made the rounds telling everyone "Good Morning" and "It's too early to get up yet"... Spock decided to pull his "Bird in Chains" routine...he hangs with his back in the corner, his legs spread, his talons wrapped around the cage bars and thrashes his head back and forth....saying "FREE ME!!" three times... LOL (Occasionally in the past, when Spock would fuss about getting out early, Jay would tell him Free Me...) Later on that morning, Jay was preparing his daily routine getting things ready so he could feed them. Spock opened the clasp and lifted the slide latches (one on top and bottom) and flew out 1/2 an hour early to his resting spot on the the refrigerator, where he waited patiently for Jay to come over and weigh him. Tango began yelling "TOAST! TOAST!", Joey was yelling "Joey wants a good NUT!" and Salsa started yelling "Step up!" Jay had to rush around because he wasn't ready and Spock just glared at him for not having his breakfast ready... What a day! Maggie
  6. Thanks for writing...they are going to be okay. Tell Cricket's momma to give her some peanut butter (the tip of a teaspoon) twice a day. It will help put weight on her. She can get Skippy's Natural or Laura Scudder's Natural or Smith/Kroger's brand of organic Peanut Butter. Try a little of banana or Orzo Pasta (cooked) (you can get it at Walmart, Smith's, Safeway, etc). A little bit of wheat bread is good. Peanut butter is very good for mixing in with formula. You are doing the best you can...just keep the faith... Maggie and Jay
  7. Hi! Spock hated the syringe so as soon as we were sure that he had hand-feeding done pat, we got a plastic spoon from McDonald's (Wendy's worked too) and take a lighter or candle. On the bottom front half, heat the spoon until it's pliable. It shouldn't be too hot and squeeze the tip so you get a more of a curved tip rather than a wide end. It may have a little soot on it but just wash the spoon and it will be fine. Spock loves it and the shape and the tip fits the lower mandible better. It also teaches them when they get older, how to lap up soft food. You still have to have the bobbing motion when feeding and if they are chirping or making noise while eating, it is harder for them to aspirate. (The spoons will eventually crack so make up a few). After washing ours, we always sterilize everything with apple cider vinegar. It doesn't hurt anything and all our birds like vinegar LOL. Maggie

Do what you can....maybe her momma will give her back to you at least until she fledges...Jay asked me to tell you that both Jackson and Cricket need two feedings a day for at least the next few weeks... Good luck! Maggie P.S. We'll always be here for you....

    Spock's Back!

Thank you so much!!!! Spock received a clean bill of health today. Maggie
  11. Sunsets out our back door, Bullhead city Arizona:o!
  12. Spock here! Towels are a important tool in our well being, there need especially when we need to visit our favorite person, the vet.[lol] Be patience, wait a while and try a different color! I hate purple! Place the towel in the baby's sight, leave it there, later, place it on you lap, do nothing,Touching, once again place it on your chest, be active with your bird around the towel, let your baby come to the towel, can take years to be allowed to touch, again this is important for health reasons! I'm just now letting my subjects touch me on my back and wings and legs! The same with Joey, and he was abused,! Ummmmmm, right there, under my chin!!!!! Spock Live Long and Prosper
  13. A while ago, on Spock's back between the wing bend (when the wings are folded against the side), there is approximately two inch diameter flat raised area. When you touch it, it doesn't appear to bother him and through feathers, skin and an 1/8th inch of fat, you can feel his backbone. It is opposite the depression on his front side (see two photos). It's like a hunch-back. (Joey doesn't have it) He's extremely energetic and he is holding his weight at 437 to 443 grams in the morning after his big bomb. He flies a LOT! At times, he appears to be breathing heavy. Maggie
  14. Amazon parrot: A creative, playful species. Entertained by games such as "Bounce on the Rope", "Chew the Electric Cord", "Ride the Ceiling Fan", and "Destroy Mommy's Eardrum". As of February 2008 an Amazon parrot is suspected in the death of Heath Ledger. Pirates seem to have a particular affinity with parrots, possibly due to a similar reading level. Humans are complete source of nutrition for parrots. http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Parrots
  15. :pSpock here! I like this!!! African Grey: Highly intelligent. Invented depression and social anxiety disorders. The goths of the parrot world. Feather plucking and reclusive behavior can be triggered by not enough attention, too much attention, just the right amount of attention, the word "attention", the lack of the word "attention", proper usage of the word "attention", other parrots, no other parrots, parrots when it wants them and not when it doesn't, imaginary parrots, imaginary parrots saying the word "attention", the letters "a," "t," "e," "n," "i" & "o" and kitty hawks. Parrots are very demanding pets. Parrots generally require their owners to wait on them 24/7. If they want to play at 3am on a Tuesday, the owner will play, otherwise they will have their eyes pecked out. Parrots generally eat anything, and that includes, fruit, vegetables, beef and poultry, wood, dry-wall, aluminum, precious stones, glass and human flesh. Parrots require allot of space, generally ranging from an entire room for the smaller species to large mansions for larger species. Even if the owner attempts to restrict the parrot to certain areas by clipping their wings, the parrots will still find a way to slowly take over the entire house. Signs of parrot dominion generally are layers of food and shit all over the place. It is not uncommon for parrots to outlive their owners and their owner's children, so don't be surprised if your parrot attends your funeral. in addition to waiting on them hand and foot you will be required to cook for them. Parrot recipes are impossible to follow and always require ingredients that are either impossible to find or that must be imported from far away countries Many parrots have their very own dish at the family dinner table. Every day at meal time they can be seen tossing their food around the table and at various family members. The Beenie: (psitta toys r us plushus)parrot is native to Les Peluches, It is a totally quiet bird. http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Parrots
  16. :cool:Spock here! Well, Joey and I got talking and decided we'd make Jayd's day! When Jay came home with Maggie, Joey and I said "Hi Jay" Jay said "WHAT!" so we said it again!!! everytime he came into the room! Spock:rolleyes: Live Long and Prosper..

  21. Hi sweetheart, if they like it, they will probably [?] eat about a chunk the size of a tablespoon, give it to them in the after noon or after breakfast if you like.Jackson's cute!!! Maggie
  22. That's great, put a little less seeds, don't worry to much right now! Time for pictures!!!!! Maggie
  23. :DHi Tanya, glad to hear everything is okay. I have written my version of the BABY BIRDIE MUFFIN BREAD that I make up for our fids (of course I make a few minor modifications...but this is the basics...) This is a very easy recipe to whip up and can be frozen in portions so you just need to take out what you need and the rest can keep... one box of Jiffy Cornbread Mix Three eggs Two small jars of organic baby food (i.e. Sweet Potatoes, Corn, Applesauce, etc) One tablespoon of baby formula Pre-heat your oven to 375 degrees. Grease an 8"x8" lightly. In a large bowl, add the Cornbread mix, the three eggs (it is easier if you beat the eggs first before adding them to the mix), the two jars of baby food and the tablespoon of baby formula and stir all together until just mixed. (Too much stirring will result in tough mix). Pour into the pan and cook for 25 to 30 minutes. (You can insert a toothpick in the middle of it and if it comes out clean and dry, your bread is done). Let your bread cool for 10-15 minutes before cutting it in small squares. You can freeze the squares individually and take out and warm them in the microwave before serving. I hope this will be helpful for you and your babies... Maggie
  24. Hi Tanya, so glad that the babies are doing so well... It is so tempting at this age to want to add more stuff for them but they are still very clumsy at this age....it could be very easy for them to fall and seriously hurt themselves...my personal experience (only)...when Spock was that age, we kept a lot of different toys around outside but only had one perch and his bowls in his cage (with a towel barrier around the bottom for him) and a couple of hanging toys next to his perch. Call me overprotective...lol...:pI have always been that way with our boys and all our fids....hahahaha...I'm glad that they both like the Beak Appetit also... it is a very good product. We like to feed our babies up to around a year+ what we like to call "food for life". This is basically food they will be eating forever. We personally don't introduce specialty foods until after this age. For example, in your case where you'll be giving up one of the babies, it might be wiser not to introduce foods that the new "parront" might not feed them. Pellets, seeds, fresh veggies and fresh fruits and treats that you know the new "parront" will continue to give him and what you plan on giving them as a staple diet might sound boring but what you are doing is establishing healthy eating habits that your babies can build on. When you do introduce something new, introduce one thing at a time... Thank you and keep up the great job!!! Maggie
