  1. Welcome to the forum! I just ordered that same toy, I hope Kito likes it as much as Rico does.
  2. What a great idea! Those are some lucky fids you have.
  3. Thanks Birdhouse, I ordered more of those sprocket wheels and will try to rebuild it. Has anyone seen the small plastic chains for sale?
  4. Yes, my Kito had Aspergillosis. She did not have any noticable pulmonary symptoms. She started losing weight and feather chewing so I took her to the vet and she was first diagnosed with a gram negative bacterial crop infection. It came back after medication was stopped so we sent blood for liver enzymes and swabs for bacterial and the fungal. It took a long time (about 2 weeks) for the fungal test results to come back, but it did show up. I'm not sure which lab they use, you could call and ask Dr. Jen at Animal Medical Center in Appleton, WI. We were lucky it resolved with the first round of treatment, sometimes it takes 2 or 3. I think that getting the full dose into Kito without causing her any stress was important to our success.
  5. Kito has never been cuddly either, but she is still very sweet. It just makes those rare times when she actually asks for scritches all the more precious. That lady doesn't understand birds at all. Free will (within the limits of safety, health care, and good bird citizenship) is one of the greatest gift we can give our companion parrots.
  6. Congratulations! She will most likely settle in enough to eat in a couple of hours. Try to relax, she can feel your excitement/worry. She probably needs a nap, read her a bedtime story or two. Edit: Woops, reread that, and saw you picked her up yesterday. I would count the number of pellets in the dish to make sure. Have you offered her any soft warm foods? Eating together (not out of the same dish) is very bonding. Congratulations again!
  7. Shanlung thank you for the very thought provoking reading. Especially the exerpt below: I have supported the cause against wild caught birds in my heart, oh how I miss my blinders and rose colored glasses.
  8. I bought this at a bird fair from a rescue organization. I'm not sure who made it, but if you have seen one similar please let me know where. It's her favorite right now. IMAG0166 by malikahsfriend, on Flickr
  9. Thanks Marcus, that is so sweet of you. Your boy is a handsome dude himself I must say. :)

  10. She's just precious. Congratulations! p.s. Not to keep stirring the pot, but I had Kito feather sexed. I don't think it's the most accurate, but good enough for us and she didn't even notice.
  11. Dear Shanlung, I cannot understand how anyone who has read your writings would questions your love and understanding for your animal friends. What happened with Sieben and Oberon was completely logical and justified in my eyes. I have seen a mother cat scold her kitten much more harshly! I was lucky that my previous parrot taught my cat as a kitten not to mess with birds and neither was seriously harmed from the encounter. Jolly took away one of Maxine's lives that day. Hahaha. I can joke now, but it was very scary at the time. It was an accident which I learned from also. When my horse was a young colt he bit me. I kicked him and yelled quit! I could not hurt him with my little leg as another horse would have. It was a dangerous thing he did and it deserved a serious reaction. I combined the horse reaction with the human reaction so that the next time he tried it I just had to yell. He does not bite now, and when he sees me he runs from his pasturemates to greet me. He knows I do my best to listen to him too. How does a mother teach her infant not to bite her breast? I did what my instinct told me and put my baby's fingers in my mouth. He made the connection and stopped biting and neither of us were injured further. No tears were shed. When Kito was a baby and trying her beak on me if she got too rough I told her to be gentle. If she was too rough again I used my voice just enough to tell her I disapproved and turned my back to her for a few seconds. That was the proper reaction. She is 2 now and we still play the bitey game and she is always gentle and we both enjoy it very much. This is the only pet forum that I visit. I hope that you are always treated with respect here. It would be a great loss indeed if you stopped posting.
  12. Thanks for the Marcus update. What a treasure he is.
  13. I know what you are going through. I agree, a vet visit if it continues.
  14. Luna is about the same size as my Kito! She fledged between 11 and 12 weeks too. She pretty much weaned herself during fledging, but after she was confident she regressed a little and I fed her formula at night for a couple of weeks. IMHO it would be a good idea to have the breeder show you how to feed formula even though Luna will be weaned when you get her. A formula feeding once every week or two or three (as time goes by) keeps them accustomed to it in case your bird ever gets sick and you need to medicate them. I sure am thankful that I did that! Best wishes, I can't wait to see the pics of her in her new home.
  15. Awww what a big pretty girl she is! How much does she weigh? Has she taken her first flight yet?
  16. What a beautiful family you have there! Thanks for sharing the pictures. I'm so happy for you! I pray Murphy is somewhere with another family fitting right in just the same. Everything happens for the best. p.s. I think she looks like a she.
  17. Keeping my fingers crossed for you till Wednesday!
  18. I'm coming in a little late, but no less happy for you Paul. Wishing you the best from here!
  19. I have had a 75 gallon reef for 9 years now. I went the cheap route and only have soft corals. I have a Remora protein skimmer, 2 Fluval 205's for circulation only, and T5 lights. My pride and joy is my Potter's Angel.
  20. OMG I am laughing so hard! Biscotti is a character for sure. There wasn't much he said that I couldn't understand. Thanks for sharing!
  21. I saw him put a foot on you twice, it'll happen. Have you ever thought of teaching him to shake hands? That might boost his confidence and trust just enough. Plus it'll distract his beak.
