Good responses, the time of year Spring with the daylight length increasing can be the trigger for egg laying. Good for you adopting her.

Lovely bird, do look into bird proofing your home. No nonstick cookware, not pots of hot liquid without lids, no candle burning and don't spray household products in her area. Move slowly talk to her often, sing and enjoy the new world she will slowly open the door to for you.

We all need a little show of empathy from time to time (:> better than the alternative bite on the cheek to wake us up.

Scary and they can hurt themselves falling so do get her to the Vet for some simple bloodwork, you are right to ask questions. Good job!

Harry my Umbie Too who now lives elsewhere enjoyed a spoon as well. After eating it could be used on the cage bars to make "music".

Hang in there will be thinking of you both all weekend. Sending love and support.

Urgent notice regarding food poisoning

Turns out the three implicated foods were all tested to be safe and untainted so I suspect maybe something in the home was at fault. Ingesting bad foods does not kill so quickly it takes hours or weeks in some cases not minutes it is still a very tragic loss remaining unexplained. Hope they did a necropsy. -
Fun pic you had greyt timing.

You can do the same thing in an oven on very low temp overnight, it works well.

Make our own here, just wash and dry veggies or fruit, slice thin and lay on dehydrator sheets close dehydrator and turn on set timer if yours has one. Juicy items will take longer than the not juicy types. Experiment, once dry and in an airtight container or bag they keep well on the shelf or refrigerated. You can serve as is or mix with nuts, cook with grains or pasta adding near the end of cook time put on lid and allow to rest and cool some what before you serve. Can also be crumbled into scrambled eggs or birdy bread.

Oh dear just realized you may have overlooked the need for toy /perch storage and food storage which may involve a walk in cooler.

Tragic you would hope this was not true.Awful results and appreciate the warning I will share this information. -
It will be different Christmas for us this year celebrating Christmas Eve this time due to sharing our grown daughter with the fiances family. One of our sons will be visiting in laws out of state with his wife. Our youngest son has to work Christmas Day. I will be volunteering at the sanctuary Christmas eve morning until noon thirty or so therefore it will not be a big home cooked meal either. Cold front will have arrived so chilly weather will seem a bit Christmassy. Family time, sharing memories and gift exchange along with a more simple meal. The birds should get fresh birdy bread if I get that done in time, bought treats for the dogs and cats. Wishing you all a safe warm and Merry Christmas, hope your Hanukka was lovely. Haapy Winter Holiday to the rest.

Not thinking laying it out inside the warehouse full of other carpet out gassing formaldehyde would have done any good as far as airing it out. Tough choices ahead I see. One of our sons worked for a production company for a number of years and many of them purchase carpeting for events such as conventions and seminars then toss it afterwards after being used for just a few days. Perhaps you could contact a company in your area to see if they might pick up or sell used carpeting that is now surplus? It is usually in very good shape and has had a chance to air out a bit.

The biggest safety issue with candles is the lead used to keep the wicks upright when it burns lead is released into the air. I am sure some of the scents may be detrimental but the lead is dangerous to birds. Quoted form Nature Chest "Scented candles, potpourri, incense, plug-ins, as well as other products containing a high concentration of volatile oils (essential oils) can cause either stimulation or depression of the central nervous system, as well as possible irritation to the eyes, nose and upper respiratory tract, depending on the oil and concentration used. Birds are very susceptible to the effects of inhaled volatile toxins, including essential oils. Any volatile oil (fragrance) has the potential for causing illness and possible death in birds. Obviously the concentration in a product and the length of exposure are factors to be considered. Many manufacturers have started making their cleaning products more pleasing to the senses by including these essential oils also. Products containing a high concentration of volatile oils should be avoided completely if you own a bird. Usually the more "perfumey" the smell, the more toxic the product."

Tragic, I did not know that either, very sad!
