Happy to meet you looking forward to pictures and stories.

We had a grey arrive some years back and she was not able to fly due to wing trims. I started just moving my arm up and down while she was perched on my arm slowly to start with to encourage flapping and build some strength. The next step was to gently toss her off my arm and onto the bed from about a foot away. We then gradually increased the distance over a number of weeks to about 4-5 feet. It gave her some experience and confidence as she slowly realized she could take off and learn to land herself. Now years later she is a capable flier when she wishes to do so. That is our experience. Glad you found us Nickraph.

lovely Grey! nice cage and as long as the birds like it then all is welll. Old paperback books stuffed between the bars make good shredding toys. Pookie enjoys deconstructing cardboard boxes more than anything else. You can also cut fresh leafy branches of bird safe trees and shrubs to stuff in the cage I use Crepe Myrtle, Magnolia and Hackberry branches. Those clear plastic balls with moving items inside are fun for them to roll around, I get them in the toy section of resale or thrift shops.

I think after all this bird has been through he must be pretty resilient and have a strong immune system. I don't think it will hurt to wait on the nail trim he needs to get his body weight back up but he may noit even be phased by the trim it is truly up to you as you should know him best. Love the phone story Greytness sounds so very Grey.

It sounds like you are in a hurry and she is on grey time, sit back and let her lead the way. I know you want the best for her but she is not quite ready for all you want to do. Just Relax. -
Yes he will need to have a fecal run at the Vets it is possible he may have been exposed to e coli, salmonella, giardia and other less common health concerns. I have seen birds who lived in rodent infested areas get very ill form both e coli and salmonella, even die if not treated. Poor Grey bird he will need to learn what healthy food is again. Do offer some fresh veggies maybe a little soft scrambled egg and you can offer coconut water or diluted Gatorade or pedialyte to help him recover from the heat and dehydration. Congratulations on the save that is one fortunate landing for him. Blessings on your son and family for your persistence. A few weeks of good food and some baths he will be a new bird, looks better than he could look considering his recent lifestyle.

You are loved and valued more than you know. Sending love and strength and serenity.

We have 2 red factor Greys here one who is pushing 30 yrs old and then our other was a normal Grey but went through a brief feather picking behavior perhaps due to leaving her 2nd home and joining us. Pookie has red upper leg feather back of neck and a few on her chest. Smokey Joe grew the red feathers around his neck just a few scattered to upper back not certain if those will remain, time will tell.

Wonderful beginning for you and Ruby! Give her time and space to fit into her new surroundings. She will learn your household routine and blossom.

We are ready for some more updates or pictures please.🕊️ -
Always worth another try, good on your son for stepping up for the bird. If the current owner has some dementia the answer could change day to day. Perhaps they would allow help with birds care and feeding if not willing to relinquish?

He had a Grey moment after all every thing he surveys is his.

Lets see hmmm: Pookie CAG bossy and demanding. Loves deconstructing cardboard boxes. Smokey Joe CAG: All attitude wants fresh flesh from my hands loves one of our boys not so much the rest of us, very good talker. Whisper CAG from a humane confiscation, sweet and loving with me not too rough on any one else. Bat bird often sleeps upside down hanging from cage ceiling. Smarty Pants Timneh: Tough guy goes after the cats and dogs, has a backwards foot that is no hindrance to whatever he wants to do. Talks like an elderly dirty old mumbling man. Sparrow and MIchael CAG: came to us after their human died of Lymphoma at a young age. Michael speaks well and is very trusting, Sparrow had seizures when she first arrived but does well now. She is missing a wing tip I was told that happened with a bad wing trim. Fred Fred Elanora Cockatoo: unknown age has a history of being rescued from a Crack house he is a self mutilator so wears a jacket and collar to prevent damage. Super sweet bird the lady who rescued him took him to the Vet where it took 2 surgeries to close his chest. Savannah Yellow Cheek Amazon: Came to us after her owner died suddenly. I wish I knew her history prior to that. She has a wing deformation often called angel wing which can be caused by too much protein in the diet of a very young bird. Beep Beep Blue Head Pionus is fostering with us from the Sanctuary. Just had to put down our sweet dog of 17 years with us this morning, the lovely Sophie. She just turned up at our house and kept jumping into our car until we gave up and bathed her. She stayed after that in stead of being discouraged. she was an adult when she arrived I believe she was between 17 and 19 years old. We still have Widget (popular name here it seems) who had no hair at all, extra teeth and a horrid odor when he found us. We have said he is half chihuahua half chupicabra. Not the smartest but a nice guy. It took a full year of treatment of two kinds of mange, yeast and bacteria on his skin before he grew hair. Got the extra teeth removed when he was neutered, CAts Jax jax-found under a bush (not playing with a full deck) Puppy cat- was dumped at the sanctuary and has one good eye. Puppy cat is the mother of Gerbil -big blue and white guy. LIttle itty bitty pretti kitty- very small calico also dumped at the sanctuary as a tiny 4 week old kitten. Chaos kitty- she and her Mom hubby rescued from a local park that has many dangers, Alligators, Raccons, Coyotes and unsupervised children. Mom cat died a few months ago a cross eyed red point Siamese mix. Chaos is white with Siamese colored patches super muscular, plays hard and selective of her fiends. Our neighbors cat Wallace hangs out at our house and fights with Chaos through the windows. Last one is Divya a black cat with white bikini markings on her underside found her sitting on a mattress beside a back road I take returning from the Sanctuary she was maybe 3 or 4 months old then. A pack of stray dogs was roaming around so I stopped to get her.

She is making remarkable progress she is in the fast lane for a Grey.✈️ -
You did surrender your way of living and many other interests to do serve as you did.

You are lovely people! Appreciate your sharing those feathered souls with us all. Beautiful all. -
Looks like the floor may wind that one.

Sometimes you might need to answer first if someone has a question that may need immediate attention. It seems there is less time I am able to be on this computer and everyone has distractions or work so we just each contribute as we are able. Don't let anyone get you down.
