  1. It is just as difficult if not more so to try and find a perfect human.
  2. Heavy labor now the water has receded to almost normal levels at the sanctuary. Slogging through sticky deep mud to get feed and clean water to the birds still in some of our tallest aviaries. Trying to muck out the old sodden hay and shavings we used as cage bedding heavy with muck and water. Taking it down to bare mud hoping to get some clean sand donated to give us a fresh start and avoid mold developing if we place hay or shaving on such wet ground. We have had many step up to donate bags of food, perches, water kitty litter and have had some wonderful people volunteer their efforts to get two of our aviaries mucked out. The chickens are back outside as are the bunnies that is a start. Thanks to everyone for kind thoughts and emotional support especially Lisa and Pat and Birdhouse.
  3. Also Gulf Coast Exotic Bird Sanctuary we were hit hard with floodwaters Waded in Saturday morning to rescue dogs, cats, birds, bunnies, ferret, chickens the amazing neighbors who are managing Prestige storage next door are housing the rescued ark feeding us and giving us dry clothes. Amazing couple even helping clean and feed. Wonderful groups donating feed and water. The floods are retreating now so clean up is the next job. Got to haul out all the sodden bedding and start fresh and disinfect. It is an experience to be dodging minnows indoors. Very sore and tired covered with fire ant bites but grateful to have most of our residents safe. Our home was spared so fortunate are we. Thank you Birdhouse for adding our local sanctuary.
  4. A slave needs her rest in order to serve the feathered overlords properly.

  6. Gilbert is the best! Keep behaving long enough to keep healing.
  7. It seems dogs are more trouble than birds. You have my sympathy for sure. Frito/freda sounds so sweet it is good to hear she responds kindly to you. This article helped me with Grey vitamin understanding it may help you as well. http://www.exoticpetvet.net/avian/seizures.html

  9. No we don't say bribe we call it positive reinforcement:).
  10. They have unusual feather structure more hair like than most birds enabling them to shed water rapidly.
  11. We are watching a big storm forming in the Gulf of Mexico so those of us near the coast of Mexico up through Louisiana and East to Florida will need to be ready. How many of you know what you might need to prepare yourselves and your pets for evacuation or that after storm time with no clean water and no electricity? Have water stored in your bathtub for flushing, buy water to drink and clean with, baby wipes come in handy. Protect your important paperwork in zip lock bags, have your nonperishable foods for you and pets off the ground in case of flooding. Have a plan if you may need to evacuate and listen to your local agencies for advice as to where. Keep your gas tanks full, have your travel or transport crates and cages ready and labeled with your name and contact information. Check on your elderly or ill neighbors to see if they may need help preparing. Towels, pillows, bleach or disinfectant wipes would be smart to have. 12. There is also Salmonella and ecoli. Your flock looks great and that Tinker-belle looks like a natural supervisor.
  13. Admitting they are in control is the first step, now does anyone know what comes next?

  15. Well the happy endings and sleeping in our own bed or perch.
  16. The medicated food may be suggested for the crowded conditions chicks are often kept in and to minimize any stress related issues due to transport and the changes brought about when sold.
  17. Perhaps a sugar glider cage as they have ramps already in place. My friend Anna had some footless Greys she worked with and the ramps wrapped in vet wrap even worked for them. If you could find a used small crib mattress that would break a fall and be easily cleaned you could use paper on top of it to avoid some cleaning. Cotton or manila roping could add an easily grabbed support in climbing areas.
  18. Life is full of surprises hoping the next one is nicer than the fire and flooding.
  19. I think the fact that it is historically accurate just makes him feel worse. I enjoy the show almost as much as the books. Also guilty of binge watching Leverage, White Collar, Longmire, Royal Pains and Night Shift over the last two years.
