Yep they are stress readers, nice they can commiserate with us when we are needy. A shame they have to suffer though the in home stresses with their humans conflicts. At least they can share in our joys and triumphs to balance things out.
LOL and Welcome indeed. We live with a Smokey Joe, so you & Smokey fit right in here and no we never will get tired of stories. How "greyt" you found each other!
I can vouch for the Texas Weather and for hormonal Too's. The daylight length seems to have reached critical for Cockatoo crazies. Fred fred who is normally Mr. Sweetness and light actually bit my arm last week as I was not paying him the right amount of attention with two cats on my lap the small dog curled up at my side and Fred getting uppity on the arm of the sofa where I should have been focusing all attention. You may have to just have one Too out at a time right now. Even the Greys are looking for trouble, Whisper was trying very hard to trim a few toes off Pookie or Smokey Joe. It was 82 here yesterday afternoon until the front came through-28 at our back yard this morning with a high of 43 forecast.
Fresh seed should not be a problem, junky seed that has been warehoused then on a store shelf can be problematic. We feed a mix of Seed, fresh veggies, some fruit, homemade birdy bread, egg, pasta and a bean grain and lentil mix that has been cooked. I believe that variety is the best choice!
Our Sanctuary Veterinarian (who is both avian and Zoological certified) says that the galvanized wiring is safe to use until it begins to break down after weathering for some years.
I think the problem with an overdose of Zinc causing serious health problems (paralysis) or death occurs when they swallow paint with toxic levels (Chinese caging) or toy parts such as bells with zinc clangers inside. Try to stay with stainless steel when buying metal toys for your birds.
Great article on this subject by Sally Blanchard- https://companionparrotonline.com/zinc.html
Out of our group some are fluent talkers, some reticent preferring sounds and one is a sneaky talker hiding her "speak" amongst others when they are talking or I am out of sight.
So true! Our flock all have their own ideas of human interaction sometimes funny sometimes painful but always learning and entertaining for humans and Greys. Joe has such a sense of comic timing with his words and sounds.
