  1. It will keep fading may take another treatment or two with just the Aloe juice.
  2. Good one Ray! Wish we could let all ours out together, Fred and Pookie are no problem. Whisper and Smartee Pants are too aggressive attacking other birds. Smokey Joe always ends up stomping around on the floor with the dogs -he is turning me grey too. Harry Too gets into too much trouble with out constant supervision- trys to eat the woodwork flies like a Tai fighter so no way to keep him from trying to eat other birds or furniture or my husband.
  3. Cotay looks quite relaxed and at ease with life in that shot.
  4. I am fairly certain it takes more time than just a few days to build up the toxins to a fatal level, that is one of the reasons this disease is so hard to deal with. You just have no idea that there is anything wrong and I do believe they don't either, I wish you healing.
  5. Perhaps it would be better to think of it as celebratory confetti!
  6. I may know what happened here as death is very sudden a normal appearing bird just falls dead off your arm, when posted the only visible clue is the fluid around the heart you mentioned. This affects mostly old world birds please don't blame the pellets even though I am not a pellet fan. There is no way you could have know there was anything wrong so don't blame your self either. It took years before science and observation including nocturnal cameras in aviaries that were loosing numbers of birds to this unknown disease was isolated. The only good news is it is not contagious from bird to bird only through the ingestion of an affected roach or foods/water it has contaminated. More people need to know about this one as I had no idea until my friends bird died so suddenly and she has a clean house. Tests are not always conclusive with this disease but the suddenness and the fluid are big clues, the bird that died showed only the little bit of fluid in the Myocardium no lung damage. Losing Rio so suddenly when everything seems well is bewildering but he was spared the suffering that goes with a lingering illness. My heart is sorrow filled for your loss. www.exoticpetvet.net/avian/sarcocystosis.html‎ No, it causes deaths in a much more insidious fashion. ... The opossum consumes these birds as normal prey items. ... sheds the parasite in the feces, it may be mechanically transported by cockroaches or flies that have visited opossum droppings. If these ... Cockatoos, in particular, seem to enjoy catching and eating bugs. continued on the link http://pethealing.org/Newsletter/wedbird3.htm
  7. A once in a lifetime love and they were smart enough to recognize it. More among us should be so blessed.
  8. She is integrating herself into daily family interactions-Great big Progress.
  9. Her summer cool ensemble, never mind just keep on treating her like the treasure she is. Diet Sunlight, stuff to do and lots of spray baths or showers with water or Aloe vera juice or even the feather stuff you mentioned. That is a determined face she still has wings and tail so not nude yet.
  10. Sad for your loss they do creep into your heart and mind and soul, letting go is hard.
  11. Citrus is more likely to have been sprayed for insects or fungi than to ever be waxed or dyed. Even organic fruit needs to be well rinsed just for safety from e coli or salmonella. Apples seem to be the most frequently waxed.
  12. Nails and beak appear much improved so glad the trauma was minimal. Smart birdy boy and very good to see the big difference after the trim and hear how mobile he is.
  13. Maybe a before and after photo!
  14. An excellent article really making sense. Thanks!
  15. Not sure will have to observe more closely, that sounds remarkable and believable.
  16. Ok so she removed the cone and then went into catch up mode on herself, that is normal behavior. She has not been able to get to those itchy places or do any grooming so her immediate need was to take care of that. You might have more success with the bubble type collar or a sock buddy. Do let us know how the feather in treatment goes. Your finger looks painful I did the same thing to my little finger many years ago when I was cutting carrots with a dull knife having stitches through a fingernail is just not fun. My birds do not care what color my finger nails are painted-no reaction at all. I do have one who gets angry if I wear reading glasses the only time he is aggressive and he is a Too, Greys don't care here.
  17. Many birds keep their beaks at an optimal length all by them selves when they have wood to destroy, a cement or sand perch and lots to do where they can use that beak. A few need help on occassion to reshape a deformity due to formation or accident or just not using that beak enough to control the length or shape..
  18. Surprise you he did, glad the visit was a positive one it will help his trust building that he should feel more comfortable now. A heated perch can be a comfort to arthritic feet. I think a really good diet, real Sunlight and lots of exercise and love can help him bloom.
  19. You can safely use a very dilute Dawn in water just use a gauze square or two then a shower to rinse. Follow up the next day with the aloe vera juice spray misting it has worked wonders here on grubby stained birds that arrive from less than optimal surroundings.
  20. I have been a part of two other very kind parrot groups. I think it speaks volumes about not only our members but most of our moderators as well showing support to make these wonderful feathered companions as happy and healthy as possible.
  21. I agree that if your Vet can just do what is required with minimal stress he will appreciate the relief he gains. Just explain what is going to happen and why before you get into the office for his appointment. He is a survivor and a smart guy as well, he may surprise you.
  22. Fingers crossed & whispering congratulations.
  23. More dark green, yellow & orange veggies-Bell Peppers, Squash, Carrot, Sweet Potato, Pumkin, Apricot, Turnip Greens, Spinach and eggs. This is a great reminder to feed a varied diet not just pellets or seed not only is it more healthy but it makes it so much easier to have something they recognize as food in the event of a shortage or emergency situation.
  24. Hope all goes smoothly for his transfer and glad he had such a fun birthday with you all.
  25. They enjoy a veggie omelet as well, or make a stir fry with the egg and veggies.
