  1. Pretty bird she is, love how she is already supervising in the kitchen.
  2. Marwan it takes a while for new contour feathers to form as they are larger and more complex than the soft downy feathers. It looks like your bird has been pulling his own feathers out rather than them falling. The soothing spray should help with that itchy discomfort.
  3. That darn phone eats up the time you should be focusing on Dorian, duh...
  4. Macaws can be such softies behind that big giant beak.
  5. Still leaves that tempting wire exposed unless you have a wireless keyboard, now that still leaves the remote controller for the tv open for exploration.
  6. Ok then what is Ziggys take on this "love"?
  7. The chip maker records the registration so it is easily retrieved by both any Veterinarian with a chip reader and most shelter organizations like Humane Society and SPCA. Surgical sexing is hard on the bird and the DNA route is much less risky. Pulling one pin feather should be forgiven rather quickly if knowing your birds gender ID is that important to you.
  8. Good job, volunteering is a great way of helping all the birds and the staff and even better for showing how you work around the feathered ones. They will get a good feel for how you and the bird or birds get along. Nice approach!! I know our Sanctuary is always open to more volunteers so we can better meet the needs of our feathered dependents, been a short staffed year.
  9. That is a huge step forward I understand the trepidation too, hail progress and patience.
  10. Hello Lurker and Rex hope after all that reading and lurking you got the message of going slow and not pushing Rex to meet expectations. WELCOME
  11. SWEET love that shot and fun to see the baby growing up.
  12. You can also sneak chopped fresh foods into an omelet or scrambled eggs I have found that works very well for reluctant eaters.
  13. They kind of steer us in their preferred direction and sometimes we just don't take direction well enough to suit our little dino tyrant overlords. Then they wear that velvet love glove and rope us back into their little heart strings.
  14. Try a red light is will be less disturbing to the big white birds and you can see pretty well enough to give some little sounds (contact call) for the baby.
  15. One of our cats has destroyed multiple keyboards scratching the keys off during a high speed chase. Birds appear to be innocent for now, too busy eating and sculpting the crown molding. My friend swears her Goffin uses the computer at night and orders treats and toys with her credit card, so check your bills.
  16. Will work on pics this afternoon I hope.
  17. I would also suggest cage time when people come over that exciting adrenaline rush does not need to be part of his personality. The more times he can get you or others to duck, squeal or show aggitation the more fun it is for him repetition ingrains the behaviour so try to avoid the situation entirely.
  18. Try the yahoo clicker training group. Many birds are just not as food oriented as predatory birds or dogs are. Some work better for praise or close contact.
  19. It does sound like a tricky situation. You might try contacting a Veterinary hospital perhaps one with ties to a university to ask questions and perhaps get some insight into working your way through the complications. Sometimes leg bands are removed if they get caught on toys or cage wiring or if they irritate the birds leg. Is there anyone in the state department who can help you?
  20. He looks a little sleepy there, cute cute cute.
