  1. Beautiful backyard and the almost finished product is impressive. So nice not to worry.
  2. Looks wonderful, good job! Just a little jealous here. Have you seen any of the videos on line of folks playing with their Macaws? There is one of a Macaw who loves to lie on his back and be slid quickly across a slick floor then gets up runs back to do it all over again and again.
  3. Think of it this way, in the wild he would be ensuring that the other creatures would have food available, flinging half eaten good to the ground. In you home unless you have a dog that eats parrot leftovers off the floor then my suggestion is to place the food dish on the cage floor, just avoid putting it where his droppings fall. It does make things a bit cleaner and limits his throwing trajectories. There are lots of videos of Greys in the wild ground foraging so it is natural.
  4. Will need Aviary photos please. Not much any klutzier than a Grey learning to fly & land.
  5. Ours all came with names except Whisper, that one was my attempt to assign a name that was a little different but special (of course we have another Whisper on the board), she is a big silvery Cameroon type Congo. Smartee TAG very small, came to us named but we added Pants to that so he is now Mr. Smartee Pants. Pookie CAG kept her name and it fits her, Smokey Joe big CAG came with his own name.
  6. Appreciate your sharing your baby Bongo with us all, she is a cutie, Welcome.
  7. You can flavor those noodles with a veggie juice like Carrot, or a little Apple cider vinegar, or a little Coconut oil &mashed sweet potato, a little Red Palm oil and Ginger, add some sprouted grains , mung beans, shredded veggies or fruits a tiny bit of shredded cheese or a dollop of yogurt. You get the idea-imagination in the birdy kitchen. Hint-let him see you eat a little first and make those yummy lip smacking sounds to get him interested.
  8. We adopted a 21 year old Grey who came to us having been always clipped. It took about a year of exercising those wings and not clipping any more before she learned to fly better than a falling rock. I used to stand about 2 feet from the bed and launch her gently towards the bed so she had a little momentum while she flapped. Now she can take off fly and land like a fighter jet. It took longer to learn her landing skills (another year more or less to perfect) than her basic flight ability. It was so exciting when she was first able to fly about 5 feet by herself, down hill trajectory but she did it. Been with us about 4 years now and you would never know she was lacking flight skills for so long. She can do it just keep her surrounding padded for now, they can be such klutzes.
  9. So many different reason for plucking & barbering including over vitaminization, could have Yeast or bacteria on the skin, could have raging hormones, could be heavy metal toxicity, list is endless. A good Vet exam might be in order as well as a different home situation.
  10. Would you change the line about pellets to add about fresh veggies & fruit & preparation time, not all of us respect the pellets but most of us feed some fresh items?
  11. I think you need to be direct but not harsh, tell them the glove may be adding to the problems. Ask them if they ever think they might be comfortable with her. Suggest talking with ah bird behavior expert, joining the Yahoo clicker training group or reading some of the really great behavioral articles by Barbara Heidenreich. It would not be kind to let them keep going down the same non productive road. Also I would suggest more baths, more fatty acids and vitamin A (bright orange and Yellow veggies) and sprouted foods being a solid part of her diet (I like the Sprout Peoples site they have mixes for birds)..
  12. Coconut meat is fine also, break off a piece and let them scrape away, would not give the meat too often as it is higher in fat, healthy fat but moderation is good.
  13. If you are unprepared just grab a pillowcase for each bird and keep it next to their cage for emergency evacuation. Not the best but it can save a life in a pinch.
  14. Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas and Oklahoma are seeing some rough weather. Add a Weather alert radio to your safety kit folks.
  15. Or how do the feathers on the wings differ from the body feathers? Pretty sure you have feathers available to show the size and shape, or a question about types of birds and types or colors of feathers.
  16. Some of my Tiels do hold the occasional piece of millet spray in their feet.
  17. Just drive around on heavy trash pick up day people often trim and leave them on the curb, do wash well with vinegar and water then Sun dry.
  18. Prayers winging out to Florida for his safe recovery.
  19. He is looking better, those feathers have a nice glow now. Glad you are working on safety!
  20. Still sound like a calcium lack of to me as well, will not harm him to offer dark leafy greens maybe an Almond or two, some Tuna or Salmon or chicken bones are safe too.
  21. That could be something that self corrects as they grow older and stronger. Will be interesting to hear what the Vet says.
  22. How horrible for both you and Archie, sending all the positive energy from this side of the Atlantic. Makes you wonder if they have done this more than once as they did not offer to refund what they had admitted to recieving.
  23. Birds, Cats, Dogs love sharing our lives with them all.
  24. Pines just make for sticky birds until they are very dry. Magnolia and Crape Myrtle are both very safe even with leaves and blossoms, no seeds please.
