  1. Smokey Joe just called me Jillbird, what word combo, I think I am flattered.
  2. Thanks Dave neglected to mention it happens in our foster homes as well, definitely a home setting. My slip up, perhaps not every bird but most will remember people they know.
  3. I beg to differ Dave, I volunteer at a Parrot Sanctuary and even the Conures get excited and recognize their former people even after 2 or 3 years with out a visit. Fly down to chatter and interact then go back to life as normal at the Sanctuary after the visit. I do agree that they will form bonds with the new family and then it is up to you or your bird what the outcome is. Greys as other Parrots are capable of making their own choices.
  4. I could also suggest a Parrot Club as the members already have skills and people who can vouch for them. I also strongly suggest a contract as folks tend to become so attached getting your bird back might be difficult. Having a written document will make the ownership clear for cort should that be required later.
  5. Ok now we need pictures of your newest flock members. It seems you are slowly becoming a domestic fowl habitat. Spent many fun hour raising baby duckings when in high school, not FFA just lived on a lake and orphans happened.
  6. Good save, sorry communications could have been better but the result is a survivor cat and feeling better.

    Filbert

Remember if it just dosn't work out Filbert can come live with me! <: beak smile
  8. Like Wingy said try to buy organic even in canned food, read the label due to salt and sugars inside and you can empty the beans or Peas-whatever into a sieve and rinse well to remove most of the extra salts & sugars prior to feeding. I do sometime use frozen veggies but again read the labels many contain added salt.
  9. Oh that was so sad, my heart goes out to you for his loss. Keep the good memories close and be thankful his bad days were few in number. I know it was difficult to come and share your loss we do appreciate your sharing that with us all.
  10. It sounds like a greeting to you they way he is using the sound.

    Filbert

Nice following your search for a buddy, Filbert is an exquisite Too.
  12. Through grief and difficulty a beautiful sharing of our love for Greys and caring support for each other, so glad we can choose our friends (Grey Forum Friends are the best) if not our relatives. Big Smile and hugs all around. >:>
  13. If he is not improved they do sell a liquid calcium supplement at the drug store called Calcium glutinate, it will bring your calcium levels up quickly. I have no idea about the dosage however so just ask your Vet if that might be helpful and request dosage information. I must also ask if he is getting any/enough unfiltered Sunlight to assist the absorption of the calcium.
  14. He is really persistent and such a clear speaker.
  15. Scary helpless feeling-not sounding good right now. fingers crossed for your bird-offer dark leafy greens, Almonds, celery Anything with high calcium values.
  16. If you do decide to finish his meds try injecting into a large grape where he cannot see then offer him that grape. You can seal the meds in with a smear of p-nut butter or Almond butter.
  17. Don't be in such a hurry to touch him, look at how many years or months he has been living in such deplorable conditions and not expecting any handeling. Give this boy more time to learn he is safe now with out pushing for him to interact before he is able to understand all the new people, behaviors, sounds, foods, cage, home and surroundings. A new child you just brought in from a horrid home life would also have a great deal of difficulty adjusting and learning it is now safe. So just let him acclimate offer some treats improve his diet and talk to him often -move slowly and most of all give him time and space to grow into his new family.
  18. Stinkers-like little kids getting into trouble when your back is turned.
  19. It would be wonderful for him if you can begin to offer him some fresh or cooked foods especially some dark greens and bright colored veggies & fruits. We have a number of older posts you may want to read through with some "greyt" healthy food ideas to try with him. He may have had a very limited selection so don't be discouraged if he chooses not to try the new stuff at first. Do go slowly with your interactions lets build that trust first, good on you for saving Jaq'o.
  20. One of the problems with candles is the metal wire inside the wick, when it burns the metals become an aerosol our birds can be sickened or killed by. I would think that it would not be good for us either if it can sicken or kill them.
  21. LOL yes we have Timneh that loves hiding and wrapping himself in my sons hair.
  22. Your Tiel isn't too old yet we have 2 over 20 years old, one is about 21 and the other about 23 now. Looking a bit shabby but active, vocal and still love that food. Welcome among us.
  23. Wonderful news, sounds like a great new beginning. We have a half Aussie half Border Collie Blue Merle girl but regular size. Aussies are beautiful and smart too. Will enjoy following her training and bonding.
  24. We do have a Welcome mat but none of us are "Doormats".
