Thanks for the suggestion to read this book. I thoroughly enjoyed learning "the way of the owl". I love how the male takes care of the nestlings and the female. That reminds me a lot of the webcam of Camilla and Gonzo. It is very endearing how hard the papa bird works taking care of the family.
Hooray for Cosmo. As time goes on you will recognize an occasional odor from what he has eaten but I am so grateful to you for checking it out and keeping him healthy. The visit to the vet also helps you and the vet to get to know Cosmo better so you will all be good friends and be prepared for anything that comes your way. I am so happy this turned out well for you.
Mikey's place looks like a fun place for him to hang out. It may take him a little while to get cozy and he will go through phases as to what he likes. You are off to a good start and it is going to be amazing when he comes home to you. You have good instincts and Mikey is a lucky little guy to have found you.
It takes an incredible amount of work and dedication to keep a bird room up like you do Carol. Owen is just precious and a lucky little guy indeed. I like the other posts too where you have two birds together in harmony, it takes a lot of calm interaction for them to be so secure and happy together. Thanks for sharing all your pictures and experience.
Your photos are exquisite. I love that you can get a closeup to see his face while he flies. Cocoa has such an intense look on his face. What a lovely way for me to start my morning with your little flock.
Oh have mercy these videos are priceless. Thanks to all of you for finding them for us. I think my favorite has to be the little old lady with the shopping bag. She looks familiar... and what does she have in that shopping bag that made the impatient fellow's air bag deploy? He should consider himself lucky not to have been bopped by the little dear.
Lyn, is that melting snow or muddy slush?
I spy with my little eye BFPITS We still have snow on the ground and I am still too lazy to put on my shoes when I take the dogs outside.
What a good video Dan. Jake is really enjoying his bath and doesn't let Dayo deter him in the least. He knows he can fly faster and maneuver better. I think it is just the best that Jake has started talking. Java barely made any intelligible words for three years and suddenly since we were watching videos and bringing another bird home she started talking prolifically, and now has stopped again. Both Jake and Dayo really do look like it is all in good fun.
Ha ha, I just love those gnarly little feet. I never had such a close up shot though. Is Cocoa's tongue all black? Juno's tongue was half pink, it was one way I could tell him apart from his brothers.
Your pictures are such a delight, it seems like Cocoa is right here in my living room with me. He is enjoying this treat and still has clean beak and feet! I don't know how he manages that.
Jill couldn't have taken the picture... that is her nose the little deer is having for a snack. We may have only had a dusting of snow, but it is still there three days later, still cold in Georgia.
It is amazing to see the capacity they have and the strength of their beaks and how gentle they can be with our fingers and ears. Java is much smaller, but she cracks open an almond like nobody's business. I used pliers to break off just the tip when I was first introducing her and she took it from there. Now she has one every night at bed time and I think it keeps her beak from being quite so sharp.
Alfie knows a good thing when she sees it. Wouldn't it be something she is getting to that age where they switch allegiance and you become her most favored human?
Hey there, this is one of the first posts I have seen about another red bellied parrot. This little guy might just be cautiously getting settled in a new place. How is he doing?
What a nice picture, and I like the names your birds picked out for themselves too. Welcome to all of you. I have one little mixed up bird who thinks she is an African Grey but in reality is a little red-bellied poicephalus. Well... if the truth is known, she seems to think she is a 400 lb gorilla.
Alfie sure is calm and trusting. I love how her mood was unruffled while her feathers were blowing in the wind. I stayed to watch some of her other videos and the slow motion flying outside were breathtaking Lyn.
It isn't just from one country to the other either, we have regional expressions in the US that caught me off guard. "What be the lick?" "Mash that button" and "I'm just going to go home and fall out"
Those two are a gorgeous pair of buddies. I like the one on the net, reminds me of my daughters when they have put on chore duty together, separate but close. It must be a laugh a minute at your house with these two. Your photography skills are impressive too. Thanks for sharing with us.
