  1. My instinct is for Pepper to be a girl. Maybe I am just jumping on the bandwagon with all the other girl votes. It will seem like time is dragging while you wait the official result. It won't change anything, Pepper is a beautiful, well-loved and well cared for bird and your life together is good. It will help with pronouns when you tell stories about her (?) though.
  2. So sorry to hear our friends have been battling a nasty bug. I wish all of you lived close enough to make you some chicken soup and make you feel all better.
  3. Joy is letting all of you know that one week from today I am bringing Juno's little brother home.
  4. I am really glad that you have the patience to keep trying. We went through quite a while trying to figure out what works and you have a great attitude about it and will get it sorted. My best to you while you find new ways to outsmart your little Martini.
  5. So now we know, Alfie is a diva. She looked like she was inspecting the picture closely. "Yes they have my best side, I'm wonderful, I know, smooch smooch smooch." That's our girl! All those trips to the hair stylist to get that curl just right have paid off. She really is gorgeous Lyn.

    Broken back?

Hooray for Vree to be climbing already. Great news. I have been thinking of him day and night how your care has been so inspiring. Just to see his happy little face while he was laying on his back, it is easy to see that he is in the best hands. I am so happy that you have had progress. Thanks so much for sharing your good news.
  7. Your pictures of Morgan are just the best! You will learn his "currency" to keep him enticed down from the beams in time. I don't know how high your beams are, but maybe you could put something up there to discourage Morgan, such as those plastic owls that they have in the hardware store. I have high ceilings and my smaller bird would go to the top of the windows. I have one of those telescoping paint roller handles and if I just point it at her, she flies down. She hates the stick. After about a week of testing me, she quit going up there altogether.

    Broken back?

You have brought Vree such a long way in four weeks. The pictures of him are just precious. His attitude is so good, it doesn't seem like he is suffering and you have just been wonderful with him. I love that he rolls over and is his happy little self. I hope he continues to have improvement while you and Vree encourage one another. Blessings on both of you.
  9. Sorry that I don't have any helpful suggestions because you are much more experienced and doing all you can. I just want you to know I care about what you and Charlie are going through.
  10. Happy Bird-day to Salsa, long may you rule your roost! But you have to share your kingdom with Spock and all your other feathered and floor walking friends too. What good parronts you have to give you treats and sing to you. Take good care of Spock for us too Salsa!
  11. Not at all refined, but I have friends who are! They took me to a wine tasting and now I go on scouting ventures to all sorts of interesting places to find it. I have to admit the hunt is the best part. I thought they called it port because they drank it before leaving the ship. Plus last week I had an introduction to Silk Roads raspberry sake and now that is my next quest.
  12. This is a delightful thread, I need a good marksman to be an ally in my war against gray squirrels. They started it! I would love to talk some time about reading cards, my sister did and since she passed I have taken an interest. My interests are varied, or as a mother-in-law would remark chaotic and unconnected. LOL. I like to make things and fix things. I love all animals, even the gray squirrels when they are not destroying my things. I love trying anything new. Cooking, quiltmaking, motorcycle enthusiast, drawing, painting. Would love to add bungee jumping, parachuting, and flying off a cliff in a squirrel suit.<br><br>Post edited by: katana600, at: 2010/02/28 15:23
  13. When I started reading this post today for the first time, I was in awe of how much your breeder was encouraging you to be involved with Averi. Then I got to the part where you have one of Dave's babies! I am just overjoyed that we were able to watch Gonzo and Camilla take care of the eggs and chicks and now you are getting one of them. Thank you so much for joining the forum and letting us get to know you better. You really seem at ease taking care of your little one. My best to you and Averi.
  14. This is such an exciting time in your life as you watch your little fellow grow and get ready to leave his nest and come home with you. I love the name Hawkins and am just thrilled for you to have the opportunity to get to know his personality and spend time with him as you prepare to bring him home. Congratulations.
  15. Oh happy day. I wandered in here and was reminded that I have recently taken a fancy to enjoy some Port with a square of dark chocolate. Thanks to your reminder, tonight I may F.A.R.T. myself senseless.
  16. When our daughter came home from college Java was seeking her out and attacking her, trying to drive an intruder out of her territory. Kelsey was afraid of her, for good reason. When the next school break was imminent, Java's vet smoothed off just the tip of her razor sharp beak and we set about working together to let her know it was not okay to be a bully. One thing that changed the dynamic was for all of us to go to the family room in the basement but to leave Java alone upstairs in the living room in her cage. After a few minutes, Kelsey would come into the room and "rescue" her and bring her down to join us. At dinner Kelsey would be the one to offer some of her food to Java in the cage. Now she will let Kelsey to scratch her head and cuddle with her after she has been home a couple of days from college.
  17. We also have a member of the poicephalus family, a red-bellied parrot. Java is about the same age as Martini. She has been in our home since she was about four months old and we have gone through some of what you are describing. One thing that helps tremendously with her was to establish a sleep cage separate from her day cage. We give her an almond every night when she goes to her roost cage and she actually will ask to go to bed. She is much more likely to attack my husband or one daughter, but we found that after establishing our bedroom as her territory, she is much nicer in the rest of the house. We gave her a much smaller and less occupied space to call her own and she guards it but then is sweet everywhere else. I really have a lot of admiration for your bravery and determination to keep trying after Martini has hurt you, that is hard to do, my husband is in the same boat and he is working to assert himself where Java is concerned.
  18. Since I didn't see the movie, I thought it was just a sweet little tune.
  19. Jill, you said it, that is fantastic. I just love those little faces looking up to the parents and the noises they are making to get attention to eat. That is just great, thanks for finding it for us.
  20. Dan, you just make my day. When my children were born, I read everything I could get my hands on to learn what to do to be a better parent. There was an article in the newspaper offering the services of a social worker to come in an access the home. She came in and took one look around and said this looks more like a preschool than a typical home and left assuring me we were doing better than most. I approached getting a grey with the same sense of research. Every day I wonder, what could I do better and strive for that. The time, interaction, toys and a safe environment really do make a difference. Life has so much to offer that I believe at any age we should try something new every day and not just for our birds, but for our own brains as well.
  21. All of us on the forum have felt the amazement at the change in our description of love once we brought one of these exquisite characters into our lives. When I read your words, the mysterious feeling that just wells up in me defies rational description. It is wonderful to know others out there feel the same thing for their birds. They just seem to know how to tug on our heartstrings and keep us smiling.
  22. The bond you are forming with Isaac is touching and so understandable. Every day with our birds is a day of wonder and intrigue. You will be eating better too as you fill your refrigerator and pantry with all the healthy choices for Isaac and Pedro. They are both beautiful birds and I am glad they share your life and give you so many happy hours.
  23. Harvey sure has taken a liking to his new stand. Its no wonder, what's not to like for birds and humans alike. He has a great assortment of toys and it is so solid and lovely too. No wonder he isn't talking prolifically when he can just send you telepathic thoughts and you fulfill all his wishes. LOL. Really, I think he is just very intellectual, he is patiently in the observation stage and will soon start his poetry readings and sharing deep thoughts when he feels like it.
  24. Dearest Spock, you couldn't have any better chefs and caretakers. Be a good boy and keep trying new foods, you will make us all so happy. We are all rooting for you to feel better right quick.
  25. They are just amazing and adorable. Even so small they each have their own expressions. It is a fantastic journey watching them grow, thank you so much for sharing this magical time with us.
