  1. Hi Everyone, Been crazy busy at the office. Thought I'd take two seconds to post this picture my daughter took of me holding Chili. Came out so good I had to share. Enjoy!
  2. Thank you Sorry for the delay. My birds like to shred stuff so a telephone book is very simple and they love them. I take a telephone book and have my husband saw it in 3rd's, drill a hole at the top and hang with a zip tie. Slater loves anything that is really really noisy so anything with bells or toys that bang together and make lots of noise is a hit - the louder the better! I went to Petsmart and bought a dog's tug-of-war rope toy. It comes knotted. After I unknotted it it was 6' long. I hang it from the ceiling and the birds love to swing from it. I buy colorful foam sheets from the dollar store and cut them in half or in 4th's. I "z" fold two colors together (colorful and pretty) and put it on a skewer and the birds love to rip and shered at it. Let me know if you would like pictures of anything. Warning!!! Be prepared for a messy messy room-LOL:)
  3. I think this behavior goes against his every instinct. There are times I can tell that he wants to turn over so bad but his instincts tell him not to but he does anyway. Does that make sense? I do push him a little but he comes back wanting to do it again.
  4. If i come in the birdroom with colorful socks or shoes chili flies to the floor to go after the colorful tootsies. Well i took off my flip flops and left them in the room. Mistake! He chewed them up!!!! Darn it I liked them too!!
  5. I am certain Chili is only doing this because he sees me do this with Maccardi. Monkey see monkey do for sure:)
  6. Chili makes this sound when he preens my hair.
  7. Yes!!! Chili Pepepr (DYH) most certainly has a scent and I LOVE IT!!!! I call it a scent because IMO an odor is unpleasant-lol. Not sure when his scent is more noticable But love his scent.
  8. Look what my husband made for me. The wood is from a Crepe Myrtle tree. I have been looking and looking for Crepe Myrtle cuttings to make a stand for a while. I thought to ask our local landscaper to keep his eyes peeled for me. It took him about six months but he pulled thru for me. After cleaning and disenfecting everything my husband bolted it together for me. The birds love it and I do too:)
  9. I just bought a huge (40"wide x 30"deep) double stack A&E cage for Chili Pepper. Double Stack Cage 40"x30" with Key Locks - Stacker and Breeder by Bird Cage Mart Poor Chili Pepper has been in a sleep cage which has worked out fine since the only time the birds go in their cages is to sleep. I've been looking for a cage for Chili Pepper for a while. Size was definitely an issue since the room is on the small side to begin with and with 2 large and 1 sleep cage the room feels a little crammed. The addition of a 3rd large cage would fill one wall with nothing but cages. This double stack is perfect. I Plan on selling/storing the cage Slater is in now. I'll set the new cage up but not put Slater in right away. Want to give him time to get used to seeing it in the room then eventually move him in to his new pad. Chili won't have a problem going in. That bird is afraid of NOTHING! I never entertained the idea of a double stack but it's actually perfect for my situation. Now Chili will have a bigger cage too just like his broghters! I feel good about this purchase. Now if Chili needs to be housed in his cage for any length of time he'll be better off. Stupid question. Why they key locks?
  10. will work on getting some pictures or a video together.
  11. Hi everyone, Don't know what is up with Chili Pepper. Not sure if he sees the way I interact with Maccardi and is doing the monkey see monkey do thing or what. Maccardi loves to flip over and lie upside down on his back in my arms. I think Chili Pepper has been trying to do this too. It's funny because I'm sure all his birdy instincts tell him this is a no no but I can tell he really wants to. I'll have to try to get a picture of this. Too funny
  12. Thanks. They didn't always have their room. It was only after a year that my oldest daughter moved out and wasn't coming home.... she actually gave me the idea. Fortunately she's only 1/2 mile away and i get to see her often:)
  13. Slater being his goofy self. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYco32CG7W4&context=C48ca008ADvjVQa1PpcFMM_al3qnYnbp0WwNfdGRyTUHw2iGOtod8=
  14. Thanks everyone I don't find the birds chew on the net at all. They tend to stay on their perches which I position far enough away so they can't reach and chew on them. There have been a couple times when Slater has been spooked and he flew into the net. He hung there just like he hangs from his toys. I picked him up and set him down on his perch. I would never leave them unattended as one never knows what might happen. It is possible for them to chew their way out if they were given enough time to do so. They would have to chew a hold large enough for their body to fit thru. I never, ever leave them unattended. If I have to go inside for any reason I have my husband or one of my daughters come out and watch them. It has worked better than I ever imaged.
  15. ThanksRay! I need to read this over and over again. Chili is too young yet and has not started this behavior but I know it is just around the corner. I knew what I was getting into before I brought Chili home but had to have him. I know it may not be easy at times but we will face head on whatever challenges come our way and make it thru. Nice to know there is light at the end of the tunnel:)
  16. I got Chili Pepper when he was 6 weeks old. Hand fed him, weaned him, watched him learn to fly, etc. He was sooooo cute. I remember thinking that he was not very active when he was young and thought i had a couch potato on my hands. Then i moved the birds into their own room. Wow what a difference. Now he plays and gets into all kinds of trouble. Never has been a snuggle bug but he loves to sit next to me with his wing feathers actually touching me. I've read all about the hot 3's and the hormonal years that we're headed into in the next 2-3 years. I hope i have learned his body language well enough to get thru them. I love his no fear attitude. He's not afraid of much. He's just so much fun.
  17. Oh I know what you're talking about. Chili does this too but he does it just for fun and not for a head scratch. Chili and I play hide and seek. I'll set him on a perch in his room then ill go hide. Then I'll call him and he'll come flying out if the birdroom looking for me in all the usual places. Such fun.
  18. Thanks Ray. When they start panting i bring them in. If the enclosure was in the shade i wouldt worry so much but its in the sun. I cannot sit out in 90 degree heat for very long and i cannot leave them unattended.
  19. Well Chili is not as nice as Nilah or Cricket. If I am hold another he flies all around the room skimming almost skimming our heads. He comes close but doesn't touch and no one seems bothered by his actions. Such a momma's boy
