  1. Dan and Janet couldn't be more correct. You haven't had this baby long enough for it to even know it's favorite spot. Take a break, calm down relax, for a short time keep movement to a minimum..... give the baby time to adjust, your frustrations are sensed. No pointed hat, no barb wire on the shoulder, just a sense of calm and than proceed with what Dan has suggested.....
  2. Not a good idea........................................................
  3. Hi and welcome, we have a great Amazon room, check it out. It's really advisable not to supplement any vitamins to any parrots with out orders from a vet. The protein is extremely high, then the sugars and salts which are harmful to parrots. Fresh veggies, seeds [no sunflower seeds or raw peanuts in the shell ] plus pellets nuts etc supply our Zons with what they need for a healthy life. Check out the Zon room for diets and all things related to Zons, Thanks Jayd
  4. Hi, please feed your Oscar a normal and varied diet, not some high fat/protein diet which will limit what your fid requires. Oscar should have only a small piece of fruit a day, no extra sugar. To much sugar makes there poop to watery providing no nutrients and filling yhem to the point of not eating what they need. Any thing from 400 plus grams up can be normal for a grey.....Grey's are prone to high cholesterol.
  5. Bless you, Jayd, Maggie[spock]
  6. Sorry, didn't mean anything bad.....Trying to offer some help.
  7. Thanks Nitzey, We have been using apple-cider vinegar, white vinegar and especially Organic Apple cider for almost 36 yr's. For safe cleaning and disinfecting, fill one spray bottle with hydrogen peroxide and one bottle of white vinegar, spray cage etc with either bottle and then the other, clean than spray off with white vinegar, not only cleaned but disinfected. There's many post and thread on this forum about vinegar, I've left you some links to start your research, the first link is to some 398,000 other links..The last link is to links explaining why pinesol is bad for our parrots.....Thanks Jayd http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=is+vinegar+good+for+parrots&ei=UTF-8&fr=moz35 http://vickipierce.hubpages.com/hub/Apple-Cider-Vinegar-and-Birds http://www.naturalbird.com/mcwatters/acv_for_birds.htm http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=is+pinesol+harmful+to+parrots&ei=UTF-8&fr=moz35
  8. We all know your love and know in our hearts you'd never hurt....Bless you.....
  9. Welcome, and thank you for re homing a Grey. There are a lot of experienced members who have rehomed on this forum, and the most knowledgeable members you'd ever likely to meet, Welcome......
  10. Your correct, it's related to her caring for you, empathy. May I interject, please don't get upset, please don't get you lips anywhere near her lips, you can transfer disease back and forth, and some can kill our parrots rather quickly. To kiss, you beak to nose......
  11. In basic order: dark green leafy veggies,[kale etc]Red palm oil, orange veggies, all other veggies, legumes, beans, grains, egg, fish and chicken, nuts,[almond, walnut, pistachios, very few peanuts, there a legume] pasta, very little friut, 1/2 cup seed mix[no sunflower seed, save for treats, no raw peanuts in the shell] 1/2 cup non colored pellets, 24/7. then treats, hot peppers etc then all the varied treats, rotate, check the forum.... This is just a example:http://www.greyforums.net/forums/showthread.php?190462-We-Feed-Our-Fid-s!!!-Update
  12. If I may, on the Grey forums we have a forum called "Other Birds" there's post and threads on keets and cockatiels to Macaws etc, check it out......As a FYI, keets are one of the best talking parrots, there just quiet. Until you actually spend time with a Hyacinths, you see why they cost so much.lol This baby we cared for was stunted [head to large for body] because it wasn't fed Red Palm oil, let alone a proper diet..
  13. ;)Hi, Dan and members, here is the currant guidelines for APA formatting which is accepted by all collages and university's. ? Hope this might be helpful..........http://psychology.about.com/od/apastyle/a/apageneral.htm
  14. Happy Happy Birthday..... Jayd And Maggie[spock]

  15. The bigger the parrot the more dirty lol. Note, having a 'Tiel first will give you incite into the care and raising of a Grey or large parrot. 'Tiels, males talk and sing, they learn easy, and the bite isn't to bad. There diet is like a Greys, there very very smart and love human companionship, even with the very young. They come in a assortment of colors with some with a price tag of over $600.00. Check em out, in your case I personally feel they would be the smartness choice, you wouldn't be disappointed......
  16. Bms, a good and wise choice, but I know you could have done it.....
  17. Suggestion: Why don't you get a cockatiel?, Feeding, care, habit, is very similar to larger parrots, they can coexist with children, that way you'll learn how to take care of a larger parrot or a Grey. I'm proud of you for your decision...... http://cockatielcottage.net/
  18. Dan,Know your busy, but a new post is far over due! hint hint hint.................
  19. bravo....................................................................
  20. Greywings and others have some wonderful fid diets...
  21. I'm going to add something I apologize for I should have added in my last post, If the surgeon was happy with the way you treated the recovery of Mickey, then so am I, that's all that matters. You deserve kudos for your care in Mickeys recovery and post surgery care, the surgeon deserves kudos for the surgery. As for your other concerns about me, you have every right to feel about me however you wish, I will not hold that against you, I'm letting the matter drop. Thank you, let's move on. Jayd
  22. We feed pellets as a secondary food, about 1/2 cup 24/7, only low sodium veggies, mostly fresh veggies, a little chicken and fish, legumes and nuts, and only 1 or 2 small iieces of fruit a day, we also keep a 1/2 of sunflower less seed mix, no peanuts in the shell. We give them as a treat about 2 tbs sunflower seeds a day. We don't feed strawberry's unless there home grown, commercial strawberry's have the highest content of pesticides.
  23. Right on Dave [spinner]
  24. The best thing to do is just stay there, have some one bring the cage/toys to the spot. A newly fledged Grey most of the time doesn't know how to fly down from high places, we have to teach them, if the baby has a favorite song, play it/ sing it, call out the name.......
  25. Thank you, but I wasn't apologizing, as I said I was expressing relief that Micky was ok. My concern for the members is that this time everything worked out, maybe next time it won't. As far as clipping goes, we don't practice it, split breasts is one of the reasons. There's many good post about clipping both pro and con on this great forum. In my case, I never pull punches, I luv each members parrot as if they're my own. A person can't learn from sugar coated advice. It's always heartening when a surgeon is happy with his work. Thank you so much Jayd
