This is the very last thing Maggie and I wanted, We just wanted to share some happiness and care for all of you. Val, I'm sorry. It's hard to hold back the tears right now for reasons I don't want to explain. Please, everyone just ignore us if you wish, I have no ill feelings towards anyone.Penny, thank you so much for inviting us into your house, we turn our cheeks and respect all that is here. I turn my cheek and hang my head in sadness that I caused this brou-haha. I will never mention this subject again.I'm moving forward to maybe bring some smiles to all you great people. Judygram and everyone else thank you for being you... Jayd

I had a thought....Maybe we should not think so much but

Greetings, a noble subject. A short story: Our Amazon friends in their habitat live near native tribes, They learn the tribes language and coexist and feed with the natives and receive protection. It is true captive born Fids never lived in the wild, but by watching them you can see their wild instincts. Captivate birds watch the sky, have mating rituals etc Our Parrots are not domesticated yet, it;s passed on. If we can remember this, we could learn how to treat them better. Watch your Fid and learn.. -
That is so great, a Fid truly missed....

Greetings, If I may, Our CAG's enjoy a much cooler temperature than we do, they'd love something around 60 degree and 80 could be much for them. Most CAG's adapt, just more dust. Dust, bathe with Aloe, Over bathing an cause extra dust. There's no sure cure. Please keep them out of where you sleep. Thanks Jayd:)

They say our fine feathered friends, unlike our faithful dogs and owner cats, will not be domesticated for another 20,000 years or so. However, if domesticated means they can wrap you around their talons, I say…they already are. Anyone who has a parrot companion can probably tell you that the line between owner and servant can be blurred around them…I tell myself that I am their flock leader but wind up doing things that make me stop and shake my head… Case in point: Joe, Salsa, Buddy, and Pistachio all have a routine going…in the morning, Buddy and Pistachio wait impatiently for me to let everyone out of their cages so I can change their seeds, water, and supply them their fresh vegetables and an occasion treat of toast or popcorn. Joe immediately starts demanding a “good nut” and Salsa flits from here to there, stirring everyone up and then settling on my shoulder to watch the fireworks. After Joe gets his chopped apple, pistachios, and some raw spaghetti (his good nut), Salsa gets her apple and toast, and everyone has been fed, I feel like I had run a marathon and I had not even had a chance for coffee. This morning, Joe decided that he was finished with his plate and started picking up the corner and dropping it. I told him to wait just a minute to which he replied “Come here!”. I was trying to finish my final assignment due today for my class and did not jump up to see him…he again said, “Come here!” a little bit more forcefully. I again told him to wait just a minute and went back to my work. Apparently, frustrated with my answer, he began to pick up his plate and dropped it on the top of the fridge (his morning eating station). When I did not immediately jump, he increased the volume and speed…Boom! Boom! BoomBoomBoomBOOMBOOMBOOM…There went my concentration and the peace and quiet I had for a short time…ARRGG!! I know I saw a glimmer of smugness when I went out and picked up the plate….Who is the slave now?

Hi, Maggie here.. :rolleyes:Joe, our little Grey, has become a tyrant....He is showing an independent streak that is bordering on tyrannical (LOL). Instead of asking now, he demands...when he is done with his plate, he now tosses it around until I jump up and move it for him (who has who trained), and when he does not like to hear the dog bark or Salsa (Amazon) sing, he lets his displeasure known by clapping and issuing a sharp STOP!....LOL...who are you and what did you do with Joe?

Hi, Maggie here... I can almost always tell where I stand with our Orange-wing Amazon, Salsa…she wears her emotions on her wing…When she is happy, she sings…and sings…and sings some more . When she is sad, she cries like a baby…and when she is tired, she sings herself a little lullaby. Like clockwork, you can count on her greeting the day with her tetradactyl screams as she flies through the room and she greets the night with her screams as she races from room to room. When she is lonely for company, she will let you know by yelling until you come and then reaffirms everything is now okay by reassuring me that “Salsa’s a good girl”. She lets us know which TV shows she likes by singing harmony with her favorites and chatters through those that she does not care for. Although she may not say “I love you”, her kisses and pecks let us know she cares more than she can ever say and that is enough for me…

 Hello old friends and new and all those I admire. I'm back but changed in so many ways. I hope I have much to offer and share. We still Have Joe [age 10] and Salsa [8] and Pistachio and Buddy. When I nap, Joe waits on my shoulder, He's Maggie's bird, but my caretaker...Salsa is Maggie's bird but he eats with me and preens my beard. Maggie has a lot of new story's for you. Thank you Jayd;)

:)What would be interesting would be for you avian vet to do a blood work up to see how things are and to compare to a more normal Grey diet.....

Thanks every one, as most members know Maggie and I feed all our fids fresh, except no red meat, we feed chicken, tuna, salmon and turkey cooked. We don't feed the no-no legumes raw and the protein is mostly veggie. Cags and Tags are prone to high cholesterol from sat fat, [red meat] a major killer of African Grey Parrots and Zons. As all know we follow and believe in accumulation, we believe a litte is to much in some foods, this is no secret. Red meat and grubs, insects etc are completely differant kinds of protien. As a interesting possibility, a grey could live in captivity on a diet of red palm nuts, corn, seeds and leafy green veggies with occasional legume's and nut's. Unfortunately, our beloved Grey will not become domesticated for some 200,000 years. Thanks All Jay
