  1. That's great! Although you may need subtitles because it's from my area - and it's in the geordie accent! People from the UK tend not to understand us!!!
  2. Mine would be soooooo boring! I only have Harvey - and you all know what he looks like - look - that's him on the left!!!
  3. I heard from Maggie on Saturday and she said Jay wasn't well ~ neither have been on the forum since Thursday last week either, so I am worried about them too. I've been having technical troubles at home, so don't have much access to my personal emails - but I shall check when I get home if I have anything. Hope all is well and they get in touch soon xxx
  4. What great news! Sadie sounds like she will be a challenge, but she is lucky to have found you. Can't wait to see some pictures and hear of her progress! Good luck with your new little girl x
  5. The other thing I would add about water bottles is that they aren't as easy to clean and sanitise as bowls. I used water bottles with my cockatiel and try as I might I couldn't keep them 100% clean and used to throw them out regularly. Whatever rubbish they pump into our water "clings" to the sides and it ends up in the water - at least with bowls they are easily cleanable and all parts are there to see - I just think that the inside of the tubes etc on water bottles could be harbouring some sort of dangerous bugs.
  6. Ah, I loved Paulie - I can't believe I had forgotten it!! A film I was brought up with about a boy and a bird was a film called Kes (Kestrel). It's a film that was made in my region, but was known throughout the country ~ it's worth a look - but you mightn't understand the geordie dialect (that goes for any people in the UK too)!!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kes_(film)
  7. That's what this place is all about - different people from different time zones, but we all share the same passion - our pets! I just hope we aren't confusing you!!
  8. Ha Ha Ha! This is so bad - but you are so right! Swine!!!
  9. Hi Lyndell - Harvey never has his head out of the trough! I am sure that if there was a parrot eating contest he'd be up there for Gold! The sores on his feet could be caused by him rubbing them in the wrong manner or climbing using the "wrong" part of his feet. I'm a few pounds overweight - but there's nothing wrong with the soles of my feet!! Like Dan says, he isn't too big - there's been people on here with weights of 600g before - there's a weight thread around somewhere. Like Judy says - as long as the diet is healthy with plenty of variety he'll be fine. Sounds like you are having great fun together!
  10. I was ignorant when I brought Harvey home. I hadn't even contemplated a rescue. I wanted a cute, cuddly, feathery baby. I wanted it to love me and I wanted it to grow old with me. I knew nothing about rescues - until I came here. I couldn't believe the amount of good people out there who were taking in older, unloved greys. Was their joy any different to the joy I had with my baby. The swift answer is no! An older grey may not be the "cuddly wuddly" you want right off - but I think that sharing mishaps and mistakes and learning together would be such a challenge. I know now that if I were to ever add to my flock, then a rescue would be my first call. Look into it - they will bring you so much joy, and give you so much love x
  11. Harvey's testament to that! I have said "I love you" 1 zillion times since he was born - and he has NEVER said it - but "Where's Tom" which I said once he seems to like - and bingo - his new favourite saying!! They say what they want, when they want - and I don't think repetition works - I think they say what they like the sound of. You don't say whether you are letting the clip grow out? I'm with Dave - birds were born to fly and I am against clipping (unless there are outstanding issues and it is a must) ~ it's a joy to watch them scoot around the house (and there's no personal time anymore)!!!
  12. I am sitting in my office absolutely laughing out loud and the others in my office have had to have an explanation!! The cooking pizza fiasco is fantastic!!! Go on Brutus!!! As for the diversional tactics for the swearing - I'm not sure what you can replace them with - how about "fire them" or "free time" !! We have to be so careful though don't we!!
  13. My husband was sitting eating jellybeans whilst watching the football (that's the proper, round ball version!!!) when Harvey flung himself off his tree and launched himself onto my husband's knee and pinched a jellybean! Off he flew back to his tree, with the jellbean firmly wedged in his beak. I just thought I'd let him have it (he doesn't have any other junk food)! Oh he got his comeuppence! The jellybean obviously got soggy and was stuck under his beak! I have never laughed so much at him "clacking" his beak trying to "ungunge" himself! Needless to say, once he'd got the slop out and had a drink to cleanse his palate, he didn't try and get another!!!! He'll not do that again I bet ya!
  14. Ha Ha Ha!!! At least Cleo only moves - Harvey is in LOVE with the camera and it sends him into the mating dance! I have to be very swift to take photos - or he'll just jump at me! Persevere - I'm sure Cleo will realise what it's like to be a huge star one of these days!!!
  15. Ha Ha!! Never a truer word said Robin! Watch this space!!!!
  16. Thanks Chelsea and Delma ~ it's nice to be back and to find out about everyone's updates! Jill x
  17. I met a beautiful, big macaw at the weekend and was offered by the owner to give him a piece of fruit. We were very good friends (me and the bird) and he was coming over to me and making kissing noises (I wasn't getting too close to him - HOW BIG ARE THOSE BEAKS)!! Well, I sharp found out - I offered him the fruit, but he decided to take the pineapple AND MY FINGER!! I was so, so calm and didn't scream - but he took a nasty chunk out of my finger! So - from now on, anything bigger than a CAG and I'm not playing!!!!
  18. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remembrance_Day It's something that we are brought up with ~ it not only helps us remember those who lost their lives in 1918 - but also in every other battle where British Commonwealth natives have died. It's just two minutes out of your year to say thank you to all those who have given their lives for their country xx
  19. Ha Ha! Seems that this BMW problem hits both sides of the pond........!!!
  20. Ha Ha! In a word - yes! When you posted this it was 12.35AM!! It was already Saturday here!!! I'd done my bit for the FART foundation - oh well, I'll just have to start again tonight!!!
  21. Honestly! He is obsessed with the ironing board and when I have it out the first thing he does is fly over. I then get him to step up and he swings upside down straight away! I just plonk him down on the ironing board and chat away to him - then throw him back across them room when the steam is ready! (now everyone, before you all think I am a tyrant - Harvey is fully flighted and can find his way around the house without my help)!!!
  22. As my older friends already know, and newer members will have gathered - Harvey's not quite normal (well, saying that, plenty would say like his owner)! It's my fault entirely for teaching him to do this, but he will stay in the following position as long as I rock him!! He really does think he's a human baby! This picture is in my arms - but he will quite happily lie on my lap, my chest, my bed, the ironing board (oh yes, you read it right)! He's a little strange........!!
  23. Catching up on the news from the last four months of GF!
  24. Jeez! What I would give to be able to specify a time!! Harvey is on the go and active from the time I get him up until the time he goes to "birdy byes"! He never, ever, ever, ever stops! He is ALWAYS up to something and never just sits there. He follows me around the house (even to places you might just like to be alone......), he has a feed and throws it all over, he plays on his java tree, he flies to his playstand and when he gets bored of the places he is allowed to go, he just tests the places he knows he's not allowed (top of the fireplace) top of the TV, top of the uplighter (which has remained off since the day Harvey came home due to this). HE NEVER STOPS! I have never once seen him asleep!
  25. I agree with Maggie - although it's a breakthrough that he's eaten a piece of orange, orange is full of complex sugars that are difficult to break down. Definitely try the chickpeas and rice - they seem to like the texture. Let us know how things are going x
